Turkey is largely considered to be a safe country for tourists, and among the modern Muslim countries it is the most moderate and secular, with many non-religious Muslims and Christians living there.  Ankara and Turkey's other large cities take pride in their "European" environments and rich history which are very attractive to visitors.  Crime in Ankara is not prevalent, but tourists should still be cautious to avoid the petty thefts that sometimes occur in large tourist areas.  Hotel safes should be used and the amount of cash carried around should be limited to what one really needs.   Visitors should be sure to also make several copies of their passports, leaving the originals in a safe place.

Visitors should also register with their embassies and be sure that they meet all of the country's entrance requirements before they leave.  A visit to Ankara, with a little advance planning, can be an enjoyable and safe experience.
