Mauritius is surrounding by spell-binding blue ocean, a perfect haven for adventure seekers and scuba divers. The seas are warm and full of tropical, multi-colored fish jetting in and out of crevices in the coral reefs, moray eels that are delicate and agile as they swivel along the ocean shores and larger, plump fish that wander in schools waiting for their own ‘catches’ and nibbles of the day. From Port Louis, it is possible to rent or buy tickets to board submarines in order to see what the marine life is like deep below, without the complications and expense of a diving license. However, this experience is not quite the same as diving into the great blue unknown off the coast and being submerged in this alluring marine fauna.
Other popular water sports include Fishing, sailing, canoeing, surfing & windsurfing, scuba diving & snorkeling, kayaking and water skiing. Fishers can find huge and mighty blue and black marlin, several types of (hopefully friendly) sharks, Bonita and yellow fin tuna as well as Barracuda. The turquoise shores are also perfect for surfing, such as the Bay of Tamarin where from June to August, surfing enthusiasts frolic for a good set. Due to the trade winds, the shores are also pretty much ideal of Windsurfing and since the water is so warm, even new beginners won’t mind falling and getting back up out of the crystal clear water.
