“You Can Do Better”

Homewood Suites Atlanta - Galleria / Cumberland

My husband, daughter, and I stayed at the Homewood Suites Cobb Galleria/Cumberland Mall May 24-26th 2008 because we have had a great experience with this hotel in several cities across the country. However, this hotel did not live up to our previous experience. We walked into our room and could immediately detect a musty, stale smell and it was very warm in the room despite the thermostat indicating it was 68 degrees. It was NO 68 degrees. We fiddled with it and although we could feel air blowing out the vents, it was not cold air. It felt about 80 degrees and stuffy. We called management and complained. They moved us to another room that felt a little cooler but upon staying in the room 30 minutes, the same stale smell (like urine) got stronger and the room got hotter. We called the manager AGAIN and they sent a maintenance person who said it was "running right". As before, the thermostat registered 68 but it felt like 80. The manager then moved us a THIRD time and finally the room had a pleasant smell and was also cool with no feeling of stuffiness. Moving us was no easy task as we had brought our bikes to Atlanta in order to ride on the Silver Comet Trail not too far away. However, management never offered to help us move nor did they ever apologize for their dysfunctional air conditioning.
The "breakfast" the next morning was awful. They had run out of just about everything by 9:00 a.m. (breakfast was supposed to go until 10:00 a.m.) and what remained was stale or rubbery. We had to go outside the Homewood Suites to get a decent breakfast.
The next day while riding bikes, my husband fell and broke his hand and severely fractured two fingers. After spending five hours in the ER of a local hospital, we decided to check out of the room early and go home-- without spending the second night booked--because my husband was in pain and too banged up. The manager never offered a partial refund even though he saw my husband's hand in a cast and the stitches to his face. I thought this was pretty tacky and certainly something this hotel could have easily done.
We will not stay here again.

    • Liked — Great location--near some good shopping, the Silver Comet Trail, and restaurants; nice part of Atlanta
    • Disliked — The rooms were not like other Homewood Suites--less room , rooms were older and the I think the air-conditioning didn't work right, breakfast food was very poor.

“Something smells at Homewood Suites Atlanta -Galleria”

Homewood Suites Atlanta - Galleria / Cumberland

As a frequent business traveler, I have never had this experience before from a major hotel chain such as Hilton Hotels. I arrived at 6PM at Homewood Suites Atlanta -Galleria after a long flight. Checking-in should be non-eventful however the clerk told me that they overbooked. He handed me a $69 voucher for a $149 room which I originally booked. I was new to town, inexperienced driving in a strange town especially at night. In my predicament, 2 Caucasian businessmen checked in within half hour after me. Both had a room. One was from my company who had a reservation for $80. Now I wondered whether it mattered if I checked in at 2 PM or 6PM; whether I reserved a $149 or $300 room. I am a Hilton Honor member, work for a major corporation, American Express is my travel agent, my corporate card guarantees late arrival. Why did I get a second class treatment? Is it because the color of my skin?

“Can't Mentally Stay here again”

I have stayed at 1 Homewood Suite in Connecticut, which I have stayed numerous times without incidents.

I expected similar accommodations from this Homewood suites and was sadly mistaken.

Check-in required me to wait for over 15 minutes for staff to arrive back to the desk. I was not greeted as a Hilton member.

I was given a room which had a broken outside light. The room was ok. The only probably is that beside my family we had a small fleet of ants on the nightstand each night. They were not enough to find a trail, but still disconcerting to see them.

I thought it was due to the fact that we are in a "motel" where we are exposed to the outside.

Typical Homewoodsuite breakfast of Belgian waffles, eggs, bacon, cereal, and juice. It was good.

Hotel staff was not helpful. Myself and another guest left the lobby through the back doors that lead to the pool exit. Only to realize they locked the exits from the pool area so we could not return to our rooms. We were trapped in the pool area for several minutes banging on the doors until hotel staff returned to the lobby. We were told to leave through the "back doors" of the exercise room. They were actually located down the hallway and off to the right.

I would not stay at this hotel again, even if it has a cheaper rate. I am a loyal Hilton member, but I would think about going to other local hotels.

“Stay away from this Homewood Suites”

Homewood Suites Atlanta - Galleria / Cumberland

Chicago, Illinois

I've stayed at several Homewood Suites locations across the country and my experiences have all been very favorable--until I arrived at this location. I stayed here 5 nights in September 2007, and I couldn't wait to leave.

Hotel staff reported the property is 17 years old, and it looks it. No renovations or even redecorating was evident. Building exteriors were moldy, roof shingles are wearing out. The exterior door to the building I stayed in was broken during my entire stay--the security lock was inoperative. Trash was scattered outside the entry door, and the door was in dire need of repainting. I complained about the exterior door on at leat 4 occasions, nothing was done. My bathroom sink and tub drained very slowly; I complained, nothing was done. The toilet ran loudly all night long; I complained, nothing was done. I finally turned the toilet off each night so I could sleep. Floor and table lamps had a solid, very visible layer of dust on them--may allergies did not react well. Parking was very tight--I had to walk at least 2 blocks to my building each night. On the positive side, the beds were very comfy, and the suites were roomy.

Breakfast was usually acceptable, but hardly gormet. The evening "receptions" were a joke--food was not eatable, and the customary beer/wine were not available because the location "had to license" to serve them. The pool looked servicable, I didn't try it out. Common areas were generally run down and dirty--especially exterior walkways, etc.

In short, stay away from this place. There are much better choices!

We´ve been there for one night and it was just terrible! We stay a lot in Homewood Suites and never had problems, always enjoyed it. But this time it was dirty and the staff was unskilled and not realy wanted to help.
