“Very Good”

Latham Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Mid-Atlantic - USA
Jul 15, 2008

This hotel is a great value. The location is excellent. The service exceeds expectations. The front desk staff were extremely professional, polite and knowledgable. This is not something you find at all hotels! The room was very clean and sported free wireless internet. The decor is very traditional if not a little old school. This contributes to its charm. If you look very closely you can see that things are getting old but who cares? The service and location are what make this place a great value. We parked nearby for $21 - not too bad. Rittenhouse square is within walking distance.

“A nice hotel with a big question mark”

Latham Hotel

2 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA
Jun 22, 2008

We stayed at the Latham for 4 nights. First the good news: On usual hotel factors, it was very satisfying. Room was clean and charming, great location, staff friendly. The A/C was powerful, a big plus as it was over 90 all week. We didn't find it musty or outdated (except for the antique Internet station), as some have said, but that's a matter of taste. It has a better than you'd expect fitness room for its vintage. HOWEVER, 1 of the 2 elevators was out of commission all week and the other was out part of the time (this is a 14 story hotel, and some guests have mobility issues). It seemed they were trying to fix them 9-5, but we really fault them for not having workers there 24/7. One hopes this was a blip. I would consider staying there again, but would definitely ask a lot of questions. From the other reviews, it starts to look like there's always something..

“Terrific Value, Unbeatable Location”

Latham Hotel

Jun 4, 2008

We've stayed at the Latham many times. Have tried other Philadelphia hotels, but always return here. Yes, its a bit worn and rooms are small, but the location is perfect and the rooms have an old world charm. Considering the reasonable cost, I see no reason to complain. There are so many great restaurants within easy walking distance that room service just isn't necessary.

“Ok for a short stay”

Latham Hotel

Jun 3, 2008

I stayed for one night in April. I was expecting the hotel to be a bit smarter than I found it, but chose it mainly for its location, which was indeed very central and convenient. It was a little outdated and musty, but no problems, and I would say perfectly fine if you just need a base to explore!

“I love this shabby/elegant hotel”

Latham Hotel

May 21, 2008

I have stayed at the Latham Hotel twice. This hotel is a bit "tired" but has a lot of elegance. Apparently, it was a luxury apartment house in the golden age of Philadelphia. There's nice marble in the bathroom and the slightly unusual furniture is nice and old-fashioned. The front desk staff was professional -- gracious. Nice toiletries and a coffee maker in the room...

If you want a brand-new hotel, you might freak out and have a bad time... This place has character and it's a tiny bit gloomy -- a bit like Philly! I am emotionally attached to this hotel and will always stay there. ...No room service. I wish the cocktail lounge in the lobby would reopen.

    • Liked — Old-fashioned and classy
    • Disliked — No room service, restaurant or bar. Also, there's no mini-bar in the room.
