“Good Location and a little different”

Cheapest place by far to book this hotel is through the BA Website.
This hotel is in a great location and only one block from the Empire State Building and two minutes from Maceys. We have just spent three nights there and found the Art Deco styling a pleasant change from the normal US hotel rooms. The continental breakfast is good with a choice of cereal, muffins, begels, toast, yogurt and fruit. Free tea and coffee are served all day which was a nice touch (although it meant no in-room facilities).
The staff were efficient and polite although not over friendly apart from the doorman Mathew who was always smiling and very helpful.
If you like Chineses food the restaraunt a couple of doors along is reasonable and frequented predominently by oriental patrons (it's the one that does display the prices and is nearest to the hotel)
New York is always noisy but be aware that there is some construction work going on adjacent to the hotel which will impact on your rest if you want a lie in, we were up by 06:30 and out fairly swiftly so were not affected.
Finally, skip the trip to the top of the Empire state building and go to the Rockerfeller building (Top of the Rock) after dark and enjoy a far better view, and you get to see the Empire State Building all lit up.

“Noisy Construction”

Hotel Metro

My husband and I stayed at the Metro for 3 nights, 12th to 15th July and were pleased with the position of the hotel, the outdoor roof terrace and the breakfast.
However we also checked in late, after midnight, and were given a third floor room at the back that had definately seen better days! (see a previous review) AND the construction work started at 7 a.m. with a pneumatic drill which seemed in the same room with us!!! As we were leaving that day we said nothing but would have had to change rooms if we were staying.
My advice - definately stay at the hotel for the position alone but insist on a room at the front and don't check in late at night if you can help it.

We went to New York on 3 day City break in January. We had a great time the Hotel staff were friendly & helpful. The Hotel is very clean & tidy. Continental breakfast provided plus free drinks in the comfortable lounge all day very good for when you come back from a full day shopping / sight seeing. Will be going back again next year.

“Great Hotel, Close to everything”

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in June and thought this hotel was fantastic. The room was small compared to what we were used from the rest of out trip but had everything we needed. The free breakfast supplied in the morning was fantastic and just what you needed before a long day walking around NY. The free tea and coffee available 24hours a day was also great as this place was the first place which supplied us with fresh milk after 4 weeks in America. This hotel is has a subway entrance just near by which can get you to just about anywhere.Penn Station is within walking distance which is great if you arrive in NY by train (as we did). Macy's is on the corner and the 5th Ave is only a block away for some great shopping. The Empire State Building is just around the corner. We found the staff helpful and polite. We made the mistake of spending our other 3 nights in NY at another hotel to reduce the cost, but wished we hadn’t as the Metro hotel was fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a comfortable place to sleep when exploring the Big Apple.

“The Customer is Always Right?”

I booked this hotel through Travelocity, and never before have I been confronted with people who are so unwilling to please. We checked in late and they gave us a room on the third floor in the back of the building. The room was small, but clean. However we were awoken the next morning at 6:30am by the sounds of construction. And it wasn't a small annoyance, it was LOUD, and after a long day of travel being able to get a good nights sleep is crucial. So we politely told the front desk about this problem, and they were horribly unaccommodating. They denied that there was any problem, by saying their hotel didn't have any construction going on. But I insisted that as one of their guests it affected my stay and I deserved to have a room where I could be comfortable. After speaking to 3 different people, they said they could switch us to a room in the front of the building on a higher floor but that it would be smaller. (I wondered if that was even possible) They told us we absolutely had to be back at the hotel by 1pm to get the room, and so we did, only to have them tell us the room wouldn't be ready until 4pm. And then they denied telling us we had to be back by 1pm. They should have apologized, and not lied! What ever happened to the customer is always right? The people at this hotel are so unaccommodating, and they don't take accountability for anything. Once we got the new room the stay was fine. We could hear some street noises but nothing nearly as disruptive as the construction. The breakfast was nice, toast, yogurts, bagels, etc. The hotel is clean. It's close to the Subway. But the rooms are really small (smallest I've ever stayed in in NY), and it's like hitting your head against a wall dealing with the staff!
