“Dont order the chowder”

Liberty Hotel

Jun 9, 2008

You would think when you are staying in a luxury hotel in Boston, they would perfect the Boston Clam Chowder on their menu. Unfortunately not the case at Liberty Hotel. Their chowder was watery and the potatoes in the chowder were still uncooked. Very disappointed, especially after paying the 18% room service charge on the bill. I suggest going to any nearby Legal Seafood instead.

“Very upset”

Liberty Hotel

This is the letter I sent to the general manager:
We visited Boston last week, as we do often, because our daughter lives there. We dined at your hotel twice, it being one of our favorites. We will never dine there again.

It was not because of the food. It was excellent. And the service at the bar was superb. It was because of what happened when we wanted a cab.

The night before, we got a cab from your hotel to the Park Plaze where we were staying. It cost us about $6. On the night in question, Thursday, we asked your doorman to get us a cab and he indicated that we could have the hotel courtesy car instead. It sounded like a great thing so we agreed. Imagine our surprise when we were charged $25 for
the short ride when we got to the hotel, the driver saying that it was a private company. We were appalled that we were conned like that.

On Wednesday night we spend about $200 in the dining room --there being 4 of us and on Thursday night we spend $350 in the dining room--there being 7 of us and an additional $120 in the bar afterward.

It is a shame that the greed of the hotel (or perhaps the doorman)will prevent us from ever coming to your hotel again. Thank you for your prior good service. Unfortunately, the quest for an additional $25 has ruined this for us and has left us with such a bad taste in our mouths that we will not make a repeat performance.

“Absolutely Fabulous!”

Whoever thought of converting an old jail into a hotel is a genius. What glorious fun! They kept the old jail cells and named the bar Clink to fit in with the theme, but everything else is throughly modern. The service was impeccable and the room was lovely. We always try and stay somewhere different when we travel because we enjoy the variety of the experience, but I don't think we will stay anywhere else when in Boston from now on. Great job!

“Awesome place”

This place is amazing. It was a jail that was converted to a luxury hotel and expanded by adding an adjoining tower. The staff was exceptional. The room was top notch and the location was perfect. It's located on the edge of Beacon Hill and directly across from a metro station. Depending on what we were doing, we either hopped the metro or walked. We had Sunday brunch at the Clink restaurant and it was very good. I liked that it was setup to provide a combination of buffet and cooked-to-order food, and the price was reasonable. We were a bit surprised to find the bars in the hotel are quite the hot spot on the weekend nights with lines out the door (which was probably the only negative for us). Otherwise, absolutely loved the hotel and would definitely go back.

“above average”

Liberty Hotel

May 30, 2008

I stayed at the Liberty Hotel in April based on the reviews I read.

The Hotel is certainly interesting and is very busy at night in the lounges. Staff were terrific and friendly.

The room was ok not great. Bed very comfortable and large shower.

I had hoped for a view (not alot of choices) and more quiet in the hallway. Whenever a guest or housekeeping would open a door the noise vibrated through my room. Try not to stay in an end unit. (its were the housekeeping/service areas are located).

The workout area could have used a few more treadmills.

Overall not a bad hotel especially if you are single you will love it.
