“Awesome!”

Awesome hotel, meeting and exceeding expectations in every way. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Aruba, and liked that so much, that we decided to try the Hyatt Regency in maui. It did not disappoint - this hotel is better than the one in Aruba because it is newer (although I hear the Aruba one recently underwent renovations). The breakfast buffet in the morning is great - I recommend getting the package that includes daily breakfast. The location is great - there are a number of other hotels nearby, and there is a nearby shopping center. The beach here leaves something to be desired, but we knew that going in. It's a fairly thin sliver of beach, but it was good enough for us. The pool is huge, with a nice pool bar, and the pool slide is a lot of fun. The drinks at the bar are really good. Definitely rent a convertible for your stay in Maui and enjoy!

“Great pool, great hotel”

Great hotel for kids and adults too. We enjoyed the water slide as much as kids. The pool seemed to be one of the largest and best in that area of Lahaina.

The room we had was an excellent partial ocean view, very clean.

The live music was excellent during our stay. We were there during a time they had a band from a music college performing at all the different restaurants and pool, they were outstanding! They are only there 2 weeks out of the year.

I thought the performance of the Drums of the Pacific Luau was good, but it would have been better if it started a bit later, the sun is blinding for the 1st part of the show. The food was about average for a luau but not bad.

I thought the service for breakfast at the lower restaurant sucked for the massive price we had to pay. Is it so much to ask for a water, or an ice tea refill? Other than that, a great place.

“Had great time at Hyatt”

Just got back from Hyatt and had a great time. The rooms showed a little age but not bad. The pool area was great. It wasn't very crowded when we were there, but they have lots of chairs out so it could get crowded pretty quick. The pool is great, it was a big hit for my kids although my six year old was kind of left out. The kids pool is kind of small for him and he had a hard time touching bottom in most of the big pool, so he sort of stayed in the area closest to the small ppol and got a little bored. But 6 year olds get bored alot. Bell service seemed a little slow and non responsive, but nothing major. The food and drink cost were pretty high, but you kind of expect it. It's no higher than other resort type places. My kids (6-2) loved walking around looking at the birds. They did it every day. Parking is kind of an issue. For a resort that big, there isn't alot of self parking and the spots were pretty narrow. However, we found a self parking spot every night and it was only a couple of hundred yard walk, which isn't bad for you and it saved 20 a night. The $15 resort fee is ridiculous. You get about $2 worth of stuff for it. If they need the money, they should raise the room price or give you something a little more tangible for the money. The pool area was loud with the waterfalls, bar, etc so I really didn't notice the construction. I'm not a real picky traveler, but there is really nothing to complain about. I've stayed at Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton's and it's not really on that level, but it is very nice. It does seem to be a pretty expensive place to stay, but it seems to have a few deals.

“Nice family place”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

3 of 5 stars

The property is really big with a nice jungle like lobby. It had live talking parrots everywhere, some penguins, flamingos and African cranes, which was really cool to watch. The hotel for a honeymoon isn't the greatest place. The rooms are small and we didn't have a great view from our balcony. We asked to upgrade but the staff wasn't to accomodating, unlike the Hyatt in Oahu, whose staff was great.

On the otherhand the pool is really nice and huge w/ a slide. In spite of all the reviews talking about how there were never any lounge chairs, we never had a problem finding chairs. In fact, we'd have breakfast at around 10 or 10:30 and we'd go to the pool right after and right away find a place to lounge.

Food: The Sonz inside the hotel is really good for dinner. The breakfast buffet is just okay and it costs about $60 for 2 ppl- totally NOT worth it for an omelet and some orange juice.

The location of the hotel is not bad however. It's in the city of Ka'anapali and there really isn't one central location in Maui, so anyplace you stay will have something for you. In Ka'anapali, we had Whalers Village for shopping which is right by the Hyatt, so that was convenient. Whalers is just an outdoor shopping mall- but kinda small and no big deal itself, but nice for walking. Now if you are looking for a great beach, the Hyatt is not your place. The beach by the Hyatt only good for walking along the shore but you can't really swim as the waves are pretty intense and the waters are rocky.

For Maui in general, it's really boring, especially if you just come from Waikiki in Oahu. If you are into quietness, outdoor activities such as hiking, etc and being lazy by the beach all day, then you'll like Maui (remember it's very quiet here- we were in bed by 10/11pm everynight). All activities are far away from each other. If you want to drive to Wailea (for the 4 Seasons & upscale shopping) or Hana (for outdoor sightseeing) , it's b/w an hour or 3 hours drive no matter where u stay in Maui.

If I ever come back to Maui, I would not stay at the Hyatt again. However, the only thing that would bring me back would be the pool.

“Still Classy after all these years!”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

May 28, 2008

We just came back from a beautiful 2 weeks in Hawaii staying for part of our trip in Kaanapali at the Hyatt.

We chose this hotel because we remembered it fondly from 14 years ago when we stayed for our honeymoon and knew they had a great pool area for our children that would not be too deep everywhere. There is a large enough section of the pool that we didn't have to worry constantly about our 6 year old not being able to touch the ground and have found this to be an issue at another major chain in Kaanapali. However, we had our reservations due to the pool restaurant construction as well as the recent reviews. After coming from the Four Seasons in Wailea, my expectations were quite high and I must say that the Hyatt really delivered.

First of all the construction of the pool restaurant is not as bad as people have said - they do a good job of making it look presentable - it was not noisy and with 2 kids we spend most of our time on the other side of the pool (it was really a non- issue). There is so much to look at at this resort, that honestly, you won't even think about it. The slide is extremely fun- absolutely MUCH better than any other hotel's slide in Kaanapali - and we have stayed at other places.

The hotel elevators were NEVER an issue so they must have corrected that! Every staff member was really courteous, friendly and helpful and they were always out maintaining the grounds. The grounds are still as beautiful as they were years ago and so well maintained - I must say that you really feel like you are in a Hawaiian rainforest (but with Art). The children loved the birds and penguins, the rickety rope bridge as well as the bridges through the gardens. The only thing I would say is that although the rooms are well decorated, the furnture and tiles do need to be refreshed as you can see some scuffs etc. The beauty of this place far outweighs that little negative (which I am sure they will correct )

Overall, if you are looking for a wonderful Hawaiian experience in Kaanapali, definately choose the Hyatt -there is no comparison. I am still floored at how well they kept it up over the last 14 years - it is still so beautiful and you will leave Hawaii with beautiful memories.
