“Nice family place”

The property is really big with a nice jungle like lobby. It had live talking parrots everywhere, some penguins, flamingos and African cranes, which was really cool to watch. The hotel for a honeymoon isn't the greatest place. The rooms are small and we didn't have a great view from our balcony. We asked to upgrade but the staff wasn't to accomodating, unlike the Hyatt in Oahu, whose staff was great.

On the otherhand the pool is really nice and huge w/ a slide. In spite of all the reviews talking about how there were never any lounge chairs, we never had a problem finding chairs. In fact, we'd have breakfast at around 10 or 10:30 and we'd go to the pool right after and right away find a place to lounge.

Food: The Sonz inside the hotel is really good for dinner. The breakfast buffet is just okay and it costs about $60 for 2 ppl- totally NOT worth it for an omelet and some orange juice.

The location of the hotel is not bad however. It's in the city of Ka'anapali and there really isn't one central location in Maui, so anyplace you stay will have something for you. In Ka'anapali, we had Whalers Village for shopping which is right by the Hyatt, so that was convenient. Whalers is just an outdoor shopping mall- but kinda small and no big deal itself, but nice for walking. Now if you are looking for a great beach, the Hyatt is not your place. The beach by the Hyatt only good for walking along the shore but you can't really swim as the waves are pretty intense and the waters are rocky.

For Maui in general, it's really boring, especially if you just come from Waikiki in Oahu. If you are into quietness, outdoor activities such as hiking, etc and being lazy by the beach all day, then you'll like Maui (remember it's very quiet here- we were in bed by 10/11pm everynight). All activities are far away from each other. If you want to drive to Wailea (for the 4 Seasons & upscale shopping) or Hana (for outdoor sightseeing) , it's b/w an hour or 3 hours drive no matter where u stay in Maui.

If I ever come back to Maui, I would not stay at the Hyatt again. However, the only thing that would bring me back would be the pool.

“Still Classy after all these years!”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

We just came back from a beautiful 2 weeks in Hawaii staying for part of our trip in Kaanapali at the Hyatt.

We chose this hotel because we remembered it fondly from 14 years ago when we stayed for our honeymoon and knew they had a great pool area for our children that would not be too deep everywhere. There is a large enough section of the pool that we didn't have to worry constantly about our 6 year old not being able to touch the ground and have found this to be an issue at another major chain in Kaanapali. However, we had our reservations due to the pool restaurant construction as well as the recent reviews. After coming from the Four Seasons in Wailea, my expectations were quite high and I must say that the Hyatt really delivered.

First of all the construction of the pool restaurant is not as bad as people have said - they do a good job of making it look presentable - it was not noisy and with 2 kids we spend most of our time on the other side of the pool (it was really a non- issue). There is so much to look at at this resort, that honestly, you won't even think about it. The slide is extremely fun- absolutely MUCH better than any other hotel's slide in Kaanapali - and we have stayed at other places.

The hotel elevators were NEVER an issue so they must have corrected that! Every staff member was really courteous, friendly and helpful and they were always out maintaining the grounds. The grounds are still as beautiful as they were years ago and so well maintained - I must say that you really feel like you are in a Hawaiian rainforest (but with Art). The children loved the birds and penguins, the rickety rope bridge as well as the bridges through the gardens. The only thing I would say is that although the rooms are well decorated, the furnture and tiles do need to be refreshed as you can see some scuffs etc. The beauty of this place far outweighs that little negative (which I am sure they will correct )

Overall, if you are looking for a wonderful Hawaiian experience in Kaanapali, definately choose the Hyatt -there is no comparison. I am still floored at how well they kept it up over the last 14 years - it is still so beautiful and you will leave Hawaii with beautiful memories.

“Family Friendly Fun”

We just returned from 4 nights at the Maui Hyatt and it was excellent. The hotel is VERY family friendly. We have a 4 and 1 year old. The penguin pond in the lobby (yes penguins) and feeding the koi in the morning were both big hits. Our mountain/golf view room also had an ocean view from the lanai. We booked using a AAA discount and upon check-in were told of a AAA special for breakfast for 2 at the Swan Court buffet and were given a voucher for each morning of our stay. Since kids 4 and under were free we ate a fabulous breakfast each morning for free. The kids pool is wonderful and my kids really enjoyed the popsicle lady that came around. My husband enjoyed the big slide, which was conveniently located next to the kids pool. I agree with other reviewers that the beach itself isn't the best in Maui as the waves are a bit bigger, but it turns out my youngest is scared of the waves anyway so we didn't spend much time on the beach. Service was great and the fact that each room had a fridge and a fold out couch (so the kids didn't sleep with us and we still got a king bed) was great. The setting is beautiful. We will surely go again.

“Relaxing experience.”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

Both me and my wife decided for our first time in Maui to stay at the Hyatt. I had read several previously bad reviews, so I was skeptical about what to expect. People had mentioned that the hotel was old. I have stayed in other hotels like the Disneyland hotel and believe me that was old. I really did not notice the age much as the rooms were clean and in good condition. One of the many things we liked about the hotel was the bed, which is nice and soft without the scratchy sheets. The only problem we had with the room was the slow drain and the private Lanai is really not that private. The view out to the ocean was great except for the last two days when the volcanic fog moved in and limited the view.

Parking as others had mentioned can be a problem. After the round a bout coming into the hotel grounds you can take a right for the first self park lot and then a slight left right at the hotel to get to the secondary lot. If these are full prepare for 20.00/night plus tips. We had no real problem except on the last day when some company showed up for meetings. I am a little confused as to parking distance. People complained about walking too far even on the grounds. If your complaining about this your definitely older or in a wheel chair, but why are you there if not to relax? Anyone with minimal physical capability can get around the hotel without too much trouble. Also someone mentioned a bridge without rails going over some water. There are some bridges, but nothing different than what you would see in some landscaped home or park.

They are doing construction, so If this bothers you don't go. I really didn't hang out at the pool on a regular basis, but when I was there I did not notice a problem. You can hear it well however outside of your room on the Lanai if you are near the pool.

Also if you decide to have breakfast at the hotel make sure it is included in your trip otherwise expect to pay $30.00 per person for a buffet style breakfast. It got old fast after a couple of days since the options change very little. We thought the hotel grounds were nice and they even have little showers right off the beach to rinse off your shoes, feet or yourself. Drink wise I would recommend stopping by Costco near the airport since there are no state run liquor stores you can stock up on some premixed drinks and bring them down to the pool with you. Make sure the containers are plastic. We did not have a problem with seats around the pool. I don't believe things were as busy as with other people. I always looked out onto the pool and there were spots available, but again I can see things being too busy and there were lots of spots with no people, but towels.

Used the gym one time. It is a nice little gym with enough equipment to keep you busy.

“A True Showplace”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

We stayed at the Hyatt in May 2008 for 4 nights. This trip was part of our 40th wedding anniversary celebration. When you drive up on the grounds of the Hyatt your breath is immediately taken away by the beau ty of this place. We enjoyed just walking the grounds, seeing the immaculate landscaping and enjoying their collection of penguins, swans, parrots and macaws, and flamingos.
Our room, a deluxe ocean view, had many ammenities and that beautiful view of the ocean and the hotel's pools. In fact you won't believe the pools which include lavish kids pool and play area. Some reviewers have complained about the construction currently going on near the pool area ( a new restaurant). We found this to be a non-issue. The construction presented no hindrance to our enjoyement or rest. I think the new poolside restaurant is a needed addition to the hotel's restaurant choices.
Every person on staff was friendly and gave great service when we needed it. Our package included daily buffet breakfast. You won't believe your breakfast view. Water, birds, waterfall, flowers and trees, and more. And the breakfast is lavish and delicious.
The Hyatt has a shopping mall area within the hotel. The hotel could use a coffee shop, lower priced, style of restaurant.
The Hyatt has some age on it, but really it's still a showplace. If you don't want to pay for valet parking the hotel has 2 self parking areas. The parking spaces are small and lots of people parked over lines taking up more than one space.
The downside to the Hyatt is that it is an expensive place to stay. They nickel and dime you with a daily activity fee and other charges. Their restaurants are not cheap. But if you are looking for a resort hotel to remember, this is the place.
