Being a Miami native, I have visited Key West on NUMEROUS occasions. It is an ideal weekend destination for me. I had always stayed at the larger hotel chains up until now.
I will never go back to them!!!
This weekend was supposed to be a little extra special and intimate for me and my girlfirend (...well...actually....my fiancee), because I was planning on proposing. So after seeing some of the excellent reviews here, I decided to give this hotel (it's not a B&B!!....because I don't like B&B's) a shot.
Boy...did the Eden House deliver the wow!!
When I contacted the Eden House to make my reservation, I had a brief conversation with the front desk manager, in which I mentioned how important this weekend was to me. Upon check in, the front desk knew exactly who I was and were gracious enough to give me one of their more "secluded rooms". The property is gorgeous. It is nestled amongst some beautiful foliage tucked a few blocks back from Duval. It's close enough to walk and far away enough to be completely peaceful. They have a beautiful pool area, countless hammocks and swings, a free happy hour, a tanning deck, and free wi-fi!! Jeez, what more could you want? The hotel also has a neighboring restaurant (Azur), where we had an EXCELLENT breakfast that we enjoyed at a 20% discount because we were Eden House guests. The hotel is VERY conscientious about its cleanliness as recycling bins and trash cans are located and labeled everywhere. The room was impeccable and greeted us with a pleasant clean and fresh smell (the first impression of smell is so very important to me in how I percieve a hotel room).
So the room was immaculate. And even more astounding than that.....was the fact that even their small rooms are pretty big for Key West standards. I stayed in the "small deluxe" and thought maybe that it would be so small, I'd bang my knees against the wall when I woke up. Not the case. Ample room space to sleep, store your bags, change, etc. I even had the manager show us some of the larger rooms and we were astounded as to how big they were.
There are many details that just shows you that the hotel is thinking. Complimentary, and variety of, suntanning products; rags (other than normal face cloths) that you can use for shoes or clean up (as not to dirty your face cloths); pool toys and inflatables; self locking doors (which I personally like); and "un-policed" pool hours....I believe their slogan was: "If we can't hear you, then we can't see you!".
I will definitely be back, and I recommend this hotel to any traveler that wants to avoid a tourist trap. This place is the real deal and is truly an affordable gem.
