“Villa Delle Stelle - Cosy home in LA”

Villa Delle Stelle

My girlfriend and I stayed at Villa Delle Stelle in September 2007 for 5 days during our 2 week holiday touring California. We had a splendid 5 days in LA especially thanks to Villa Delle Stelle.

First off it is in an excellent location to easily find your way to all the central attractions in LA as well as bars and restaurants on Sunset Strip.

Villa Delle Stelle itself is LA's best kept secret. It is a cosy home in the big city. We stayed in the ground floor apartment, and came away with no complaints. Loads of space, good size living room with plasma tv, dining room, kitchen, bath room and bedroom. Everything is spotless and in good working order. You really do feel like at home in Villa Delle Stelle.

Just down the road from Villa Delle Stelle are some local shops for you to stock up on groceries.

If your not familiar with the area and you are driving there from the airport, you might want to get Sat Nav with your car, but its not too hard to find.

After our long flight, we were so happy to get to Villa Delle Stelle and put our feet up.

As I said before the location is perfect, all of LA's main attractions are close by and it is also within easy reach of the freeway if you want to explore further out of the city. We visisted Venice beach and Santa Monica a couple of times during our stay and would recommend you do too. Santa Monica is beautiful and you cant beat an afternoon on the beach (don't forget plenty of sun cream) their after visiting the shops inland.

I don't have a single bad word to say about Villa Delle Stelle, but a couple of things you might want to consider before visiting LA. If your from England don't be expecting a City Center full of bars. If you want a lot of night life do a little planning to as where the bars you want to go to are. Although you will find quite a few on Sunset strip, as well as fine places to eat. Second thing, just chill out and enjoy LA.

My mother and I took a quick trip to LA in January and stayed in the Bungalow suite for two nights. It was very charming and private, with adequate space for 2-4 people if you don't mind a cramped bathroom. The Bungalow is tucked behind the main house and feels secluded, with very little street noise audible from inside. I'd highly recommend the Villa to anyone looking to stay in Hollywood. I'll definitely make an effort to go back the next time I'm in the area. It's lovely.

My only warning is that if you have a large vehicle, parking may be a challenge, particularly if you're in the Bungalow, as the spot is all the way at the end of the driveway. It's a small space around a tight corner. Backing out with a large rental car was difficult.

We stayed at this hotel over Thanksgiving 2007. We wanted to Stay right in Hollywood for some reason, even though we know that Hollywood is not exactly the greatest of neighborhoods. We traveled with two children under the age of 12, and the Villa worked out very well for us.

The Villa is made up of 4 suites, 3 are in the main house and one out back. We stayed in the English Suite one night and the Parisian suite for two nights. Both were decorated nicely, and the feel of this "old" Hollywood house built in the 20s was an added benefit (if you like that sort of thing, we do). Both suites were clean and well kept.

ENGLISH SUITE:
The English suite is on the bottom floor and only has one bedroom. There is a sofa bed in the living room that can sleep another two. A neat touch was a player piano that supposedly belonged to Dudley Moore. It was nice to turn on the piano and let it play.

The only thing to keep in mind about this suite is that it is on the bottom floor and you can hear the other folks walking around upstairs. After all, it is an old house -- although restored.

The other problem we had with this suite was the sofa bed. It was obvious that the sheets had not been changed since the last guest, and there were no extra sheets in the linen closet. As we tried to make due with the two extra blankets in the closet, we discovered a badly stained (blood, eww) quilt that kind of grossed us out. The owner assured us that the sheets had been changed and was naturally appalled at the quilt.

Nonetheless, the English suite was a great place to come back to after a long day and we had ample room to spread out.

PARISIAN SUITE:
If you are travelling with more than 2 people, I suggest the Parisian suite. It has a second bedroom with 2 twin beds. Other benefits compared to the English Suite are that it has a king bed and is upstairs. The kitchen is also much nicer in this unit.

This suite did not have a living room like the English Suite, but that really made no difference to us. It was a wonderful place to stay, much better than a hotel and about the same cost.

NOISE:
If you are not aware, Hollywood is an "urban" area. While the street where the Villa is located is nice little street tucked into a seedy area, there was still considerable noise at night from the activities going on outside.

I think we were just very unlucky to have a horrible guest staying in the English Suite after we moved upstairs. This guest and his companians were obviously younger, and for two nights they hung out on the front steps of the VIlla and discussed their "conquests" of the night once returning home. The sound travelled right up the stairs and into our suite.

They also cranked up that nice player piano at 3 AM. We could not really hear that in our bedrooms, but it came through the wall clearly at the bottom of the stairs. I felt sorry for the guests directly above that suite.

Maybe that is the downside of such a wonderful place going at a moderate rate.....it can draw the wrong sort of people.

SUMMARY:
All in all, this is a great place if you want to be right in Hollywood and want a different kind of experience than just a boring hotel. There are some things to watch out for, but we would stay here again if the opportunity presented itself.

As stated in the review, we were appalled to find out about the stained blanket in the English suite. We are not sure why a previous guest had used the blanket as it is a historic quilt that was meant for decoration only but we assume the reason they hid it away in the hall closet before they checked-out was most likely because they were embarrassed they stained a vintage decorative quilt that wasn't meant to be used in the first place. Needless to say, we had the quilt removed from the suite immediately.

A hidden gem in LA. We travel to LA several times a year and this is our new destination.
Felt like we were back in our own apartment in NY.
All the suites are great. We stayed in the English suite and already booked it for our return in February.
Enjoy.

“A perfect taste of Old Hollywood”

We arrived late at night from London and were slightly nervous at having to find our way to a private address and let ourselves in. We needn't have been as the advance info and directions provided by Samantha were excellent and complete.

Although we had high expectations based on previous TA reviews we were truly impressed by the style and marvellous quality of the Art Deco suite. We wanted two sleeping areas and the suite was ideal for this with a super king in the bedroom at the front of the suite and extremely comfortable 'lit du jour' in the study at the rear of the suite. In between were a dining/sitting room and a fully equipped kitchen with sit-up bar, dishwasher, gas hob and refrigerator. The study has a full working desk and the provision of free wireless internet was a great benefit. The furniture and fittings throughout the suite are of 'Restoration Hardware' quality and we found it a perfect home from home.

The location is really excellent - a minute or two off the Hollywood Freeway, one block from Sunset and Hollywood Blvds, 5 minutes drive to the wonderful restaurants, bars & cafes of Vermont Avenue; 20 minutes to Beverly Hills and 15 minutes from West Hollywood in one direction and downtown in the other.

A bottle of excellent cabernet and fresh cheese awaited us on arrival - a perfect and much appreciated gift after an 11 hour flight from London! Our only disappointment was that we could only stay two nights! I hope to get back in January for a ten night stay.
