“quiet and friendly”

Pink Beach Club & Cottages

This was my first visit to Bermuda and since it was our wedding anniversary I splashed out a bit and paid a little more than I normally would for a five-night vacation. Our first -chioice hotels were fully booked, but I found a nice suite at Pink Beach, and chose it based on good ratings here. I had to swallow hard at the price ($900 a night) but it was a special occasion.

First, the location: right on the beach as promised, quiet, and utterly gorgeous. Although our suite was not as ultra luxurious as the five-star hotels we've stayed at, the setting was lovely and very comfortable. We don't play golf or tennis; we were there to relax and to snorkel. There are some okay snorkeling sites right off the beach, but it was windy four out of the five days we were there, and I was very disappointed in the conditions. But that certainly isn't the hotel's fault.

Second, the food: very good. The indoor dining room had five-course meals with excellent choices. We're pretty picky, and we were happy with the offerings, except for the fact they had horrible coffee. But then, that must be the British influence. (In fact, that was our big complaint with Bermuda in general -- horrid coffee!) The wine list was only so-so.

Third: amenities. The pool was a sorry, sorry affair -- right in the midst of the dining area, so you felt naked and exposed going for a swim there, with an audience of diners. The east beach, while beautiful, had a distinct dearth of umbrellas and you had to get there early to scrounge up some shade. If you want shade, you have to head for the less-crowded west beach, where there are more umbrellas .. but no one to cater to your drink or food needs. For the price we paid, I would think there would be more beach staff to bring you drinks. I've been to Caribbean resorts (say, Anse Chastenet) where we were catered to more lovingly at the water's edge, and the fact Pink Beach Club didn't do so was quite disappointing.

Fourth: the staff. Very friendly. We learned that there were several families who were repeat visitors, so obviously many guests are happy enough to come back again and again.

Overall, it was a very nice vacation, but I'm thinking of trying a different Bermuda resort next time, just to compare.

“Awesome!!!”

We stayed in an Ocean view junior suite. The room was beautiful, with a king size bed and a million dollar view. The beach was just a few steps out of our door. The food was great, the beach was immaculate, (they even raked the seaweed away in the AM) and the service was second to none. Can't wait to go back.

We stayed for a family trip. It was a very nice hotel. The rooms were beautiful and the service was great, too. There are two private beaches that were really nice. It was easy to catch a bus to the local towns of Hamilton and St. Georges. They even sold the bus tickets at the front. If you enjoy dining at a slow pace and enjoying the food, the restaurant there is a great place to eat. We noticed that their prices were comparable to the other restaurants around the island.

“Pink Beach was a treat”

We loved our 3 nights at the Pink Beach Club. We stayed in one of the oceanfront cottages. It felt very private and exclusive. It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Attentive housekeepers kept clean towels coming all day. The beaches were nearly empty. You could sunbathe on your balcony too and never really see anyone else. We were a little surprised by the bits of trash that washed up on the beach (mostly plastic), but with a surrounding reef, I guess that's to be expected. The snorkeling was okay, the waves fairly mild, but the the water churned quite a bit so you could get a good workout just treading.
The dining options ( the formal inside room and the outside terrace) were both great. The service was wonderful and if they didn't get something right , they hustled to correct it. It was a little weird to be without t.v., but the new fitness room had one, and it was great for watching the Tour de France or catching up on news while working out. It had a good mix of cardio machines and weight-lifting options if you were looking to maintain your weight while eating great food. The afternoon tea was a nice touch and we looked forward to it each day. I'm not sure we would ever go there with kids, since the teenagers there looked kind of bored. There is nowhere to walk to safely (take the bus or a cab) and and not even a small shop on the premises. It doesn't seem like a great place for kids at all, although there were quite a few babies and it just seemed disruptive during the evening dining times especially, even if you went late. (one screamed through our whole dinner and the parents just stuck it out and let everyone else hear it too...as a mom of four, I wouldn't inflict this on others paying so much for vacation, or on anyone, come to think of it.) We would definitely go back to Pink Beach even though I'm a little curious about other properties now too. I think it would be a perfect honeymoon location.

“Unrealized potential”

Pink Beach Club & Cottages

We spent four nights in a suite on the beach. The location is perfect and the beach was clean, quiet and very picturesque. The property is well maintained.

Our room was furnished in a style closer to the mid 70's than today and although the furnishings were well maintained they left the room tired. We felt the same about the common areas of the resort, particulaly the main dining room and the pool terrace, where plastic chairs looked a little tacky.

The pool is small for a resort of this size and we would have welcomed a larger pool area.

The staff were superb at all levels.

We were on MAP and food was average at best. Surely here was a chance to shine. Instead, main courses were poor.

There was an anachronistic feel about the "jackets please" dining room and I am sure that the majority of the guest would have welcomed a more casual and modern approach to dinner. This is not world class dining so why live on past laurels.

Overall a positive vacation with wonderful weather. The shortcomings did not spoil our vacation but we will seek a better resort next time.
