“Had a Wonderful Time”

Pink Beach Club & Cottages

My wife and I spent 6 wonderful days at the Pink Beach Club! The weather was beautiful. The room we had was well maintained and offered a beautiful view of the ocean. We had lunch three days by the pool. Service was excellent and the food was more than adequate. Lunch provided a nice break from the sun on the beach. The beach itself was clean and not crowded. We spent most of the days reading on the lounge chairs there, and looking for passing longtails and cruise ships in the distance. We opted for dinners in the more formal dining room. The food was excellent and the wait staff friendly and attentive.
There are no TV's in the rooms, but that was no problem at all. There is a TV in the main building where you could find most people watching the tennis from Wimbledon. This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever been on. We'd go back in a minute ( Ok - it is a little pricey, but certainly worth it. Maybe we will wait a few years before heading back).

“Not for kids!”

I will admit that this hotel is beautiful and appropriate for adults. They advertise that their hotel is "KID FRIENDLY".. But the truth is, the kids menu is the only thing kid friendly at this hotel. Thou the staff was nice enough and we did encounter a couple of shining star waitstaff, most were just indifferent in general. The service was so slow it was painful. Most of the staff are healthy and young so I don't know what the explanation was for the poor service except for a strong case of apathy. Most just didn't seem to care. -- And just a small tid-bit of info...the pool is half salt water so if you have a little one that is sensitive to the water beware of that detail. After awhile my daughter found it too painful for her eyes and just didn't swim. In fact there is a lot of detail that we could never have known unless we actually spent time at this hotel. We stayed at one of the most expensive cottages Pink Beaches has to offer and yet our room was littered with small tiny ants...most of them dead hanging out on the window sills. And thou we tried to just past it off and let it go, they basically remained there even after the cleaning crew came through once a day. The shoreline, thou breathtaking in itself, was much too trecherous for young ones like our children (ages 4 & 6). We had to litterally be by their side every second they were near the water for fear of them getting swepted away. It was nerve racking. And speaking of nerve racking...thou the staff seem to tolerate the (very few by the way) young children we noticed there during our stay, the guest did not. We were pitted with dirty looks and stares as our children frockicked in the pool, going to and from our cottage and in when we were dining.
At home we dine out often and travel often too and we take our kids with us everywhere so our kids were as well behaved as a 4 and 6 year can be. However, the enviroment lent itselt to us feeling like we had to constantly tell our children to be quite. That made for a stressful time for both my husband and I. Shhh'ing small children on their vacation doesn't seem right.
Overall, the property itself...meaning where it actually sits on the Island is very beautiful. The actual property itself needs some work. The rooms wheren't much to look at either. It's an old property.
Truth be told... 4 days into our stay at the Pink Beaches we checked out early. Too much money for not enough return.
This property seems to cater to the older couple. I wouldn't even reccomend to a young honeymooner. And most definately NOT to a family of young children.
As a final note, we did go to the Grotto Bay for lunch which seem to be extremely friendly. And the after checking out of Pink Beaches, we checked into the The Fairmont SouthHampton for litterally 2nights and a day, but still worth the inconvienance of repacking and unpacking. The Fairmont SouthHampton is very kid friendly & clean in everyway. The pool service was pretty awesome too. :)
Happy Travels......

“Nearly perfect but...”

We've been returning to Pink Beach year after year; we love the friendly staff, the excellent breakfasts (in your room or at the outdoor breakfast buffet), the comfortable accommodations, and most of all we love the beach and the snorkeling. You only have to go a few feet off of the beach to see an amazing panorama of tropical fish; lots of parrotfish (which are big enough to be visible from the shore as you look at the waves), and all kinds of other fish, around submerged rocks and coral. And you don't even have to bring your own snorkeling equipment -- they have a beach-side shop, from which you can borrow all the equipment you need for no charge.

Dinner offers two options -- outside, around the pool, or inside. Inside is a little more formal, outside has a few more choices, but both offer delicious local fish, good meats, and vegetarian options. There are two things I'd like to see changed here. One is the fact that there are no televisions except for a single set in the bar. Nobody goes to Bermuda to watch television, but it's nice to turn on the news early in the morning, or to watch a movie on the occasional rainy day. Watching local TV is a good way to learn about the place you're visiting. The hotel now has a fairly robust wi-fi system, but still no television.

The other thing I'd like to see changed is the front desk; it is utterly chaotic, with a staff that is certainly friendly, but can't quite figure out how to meet people's needs. For example, there is a "laundry and dry-cleaning" slip in the room, and it offers a same-day service; when my clothes failed to materialize by 6 on the day, I called and was told "housekeeping is closed for the day, you'll have to inquire tomorrow". Not "let me check and call you back...", not "I'll get a key for the housekeeping office and see if it's there", but "you'll have to check tomorrow". All the other staff is properly trained to meet guests' needs; the front desk staff seems to have their own set of rules, and "the customer is always right" is not one of those rules.

However, the chaos at reception did not spoil our vacation, and it shouldn't discourage anyone from visiting this wonderful resort; just be prepared to practice patience and humor when dealing with the front desk staff.

“Relaxing vacation”

Pink Beach Club & Cottages

We were celebrating our anniversary and stayed at PBC for four nights. We had an ocean front junior suite, and, for the price, I thought it could have been a lot nicer. The room seemed like a basic hotel room with sitting area, and though it was very large, the furnishings and bedding definitely looked worn. The room had no personality. The cushions on the patio furniture needed replacing. That being said, the PBC is definitely a very relaxing place to go. The beach is beautiful. The staff is friendly, though they pretty much leave you alone and let you do your own thing. We were on the MAP, and the food was outstanding, including the buffet breakfast, which was a thousand times better than the breakfast they can bring to your room. There were a lot of extended families on vacation there, which sometimes seemed a little overwhelming. Since Bermuda is expensive no matter where you stay, I would recommend PBC, but don't expect luxury in terms of your room.

“Lovely hotel, great food”

This hotel is lovely - old fashioned, but wonderful. I like the refined feel, lush grounds, lovely pool area, and genuinely warm welcome and service. We had an ocean front junior suite that was delightful. Views over the beach and ocean were incredibly beautiful - could actually see brilliantly colored fish swimming close to shore right from our balcony. The incredibly extensive and delicious breakfast was set up on our balcony each morning with table cloth, silver, etc. Such a pleasant way to start the day. It was so substantial that lunch wasn't necessary - pancakes, french toast, eggs of any kind, pastries, bacon, sausage, ham - just hand in your order the night before, tell them what time you'd like it be served, and it arrives at hour door promptly with a very friendly staffer who sets it all up and takes it away. Of course, had to take in the high tea just for fun - but didn't want to spoil dinner, which is a wonderful affair. The menu changes daily with plenty of variety. Food is just delicious and beautifully presented. Don't come to PBC looking for glitz and glamor. This is not the Four Seasons, The Ritz Carlton, the Fairmont, etc - nor would it ever want to be. Rather this is a place for people who appreciate the smaller things in life. The rooms are lovely, although there is definitely a musty smell due to the proximity of the water - not unusual. I'd suggest bringing a Glade Plug-In to combat the odor if you're sensitive. Bathrooms could use a bit of maintenance, i.e. cabinets look a little dated, doors a bit loose, faucet corrosion - again, not untypical of beachfront properties. It wasn't a big deal to us. No TV in rooms but available in the lounge area. Didn't bother me, but my sports-crazed husband would have withdrawal....But the main reason to come here is for the beach - spectacular! The sand truly has a pink cast to it, there are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas, the water is clear and multi-hued. If you can't relax here, there is something wrong! The clientele here was a bit on the older side (and I am in my 50s) - perhaps they appreciated the musical entertainment at dinner, but it was a little dorky to me. No biggie - the food was so good and the service so pleasant it didn't matter a bit. Overall I would say if you like peace and quiet for your vacation, and appreciate a refined and homey atmosphere, you will be happy here. If you're looking for super-upscale accommodations, amenities, and entertainment you will probably be dissatisfied. However, Bermuda is not a destination for that - there really aren't many hotels like that - and that's just great. Most things are on a small scale, except for the 2 Fairmonts. I stayed at both of those as well - nice, but too corporate for my taste. I was much happier at the PBC and would go back in a heart beat.
