“Perfect B&B”

Miyazato was the perfect B&.B . Located only 5 minutes walk from El Calafate, it is on a quiet street in a very central location. The B&B is very highly maintained by Jorge and Elizabeth. The whole house is immaculate, the bedrooms and beds are very comfortable and spotless.

The customer service that Jorge and Elizabeth provide is of a very high level. They are genuinely very friendly people who can't do enough for you. I contacted them in advance and they helped me organise a mini-trekking trip. When we arrved from Ushuaia our luggage had been sent on to BsAs by mistake. It was especially upsetting for my wife who wanted to spend the next day trying to track down our luggage, which would have meant missing the mini-trekking as we were only there for 2 nights. However Jorge insisted on taking care of everything and we went to see Perito Moreno the next day.

Luckily our luggage turned up and we hadn't missed out on the glacier, thanks to Jorge. The Inn is great value and the perfect base to explore El Calafate.

I stayed here for several nights in January 2008. Jorge and Elisabeth were very gracious hosts. They welcomed me with cake and tea and helped me to make plans during me stay. The breakfast was very good, and the atmosphere inviting. The rooms were nice and the location was very good - close to town, but in a quiet area. I highly recommend it.

“Perfect for our style of travel”

My wife found this gem of a place on TripAdvisor. I was a bit skeptical before we arrived but after a few minutes at the Inn we were made very welcome. This is a homely place, B&B rather than a hotel. A short walk into town was pleasant.

Simple rooms but clean and nice - though we spent very little time in the room. They had wireless internet so I could stay in touch with work. The included breakfast was simple but beautifully presented. Elizabeth has a definite feel for presentation. The owners were extremely helpful in getting us tickets for tours, helping us decide - they took an interest like they were our parents (though we are quite a bit older than they).
Elizabeth even made me a special request for a packed lunch and Jorge gave me a flask of coffee which came in handy on the icy glacier.

We stayed at the Miyazato Inn 3 nights. One other night we had booked at a different place which was double the price and half the value.

Although my trip in El Calafate was short (2 days), Jorge simply helped me in many occasions... Just to have an idea:
- he bought me the tickets to the Minitrekking tour for the following day, as I would arrive later in the night
- he gave me directions on where I could have rent clothes for the tours
- he lent me a topperware to have my food organized in the tours
- he lent me some money because I could not find an ATM

Besides that, he is a good person to chat with, he has a great life experience after living in Japan for more than 10 years and he is definitely a good host.

Thank you Jorge for your hospitality!

“Friendly, comfortable, helpful owners”

Miyazato Inn

5 of 5 stars
Fortaleza, Brazil
Apr 26, 2008

Not sure why this is listed under hotels, as it is most definitely a B&B, in owner's home on a quiet, gravel street a 10-15 minute walk from El Calafate's main street (which is lined with pricey restaurants and shops). When I arrived from the airport by taxi, I was chagrined to see a "closed" sign on the door, as I already had a reservation for two nights, but Jorge, who speaks fluent English, came out and explained the government had closed the place for a day due to a problem with taxes. He said he had already arranged for me to stay at another B&B nearby, and even insisted on paying for that night himself as he felt responsible for inconveniencing me (imagine that in the States or almost anywhere else!). Next day, while I was on a tour to the nearby glacier, my bags were taken to my new room. Room was large, though basic, with two twin beds. No TV in the room, but there is a large one in the living room, and owner's wife volunteered to switch to an English-language channel for me. Guests can use the owner's PC at the front dsk to access the Internet. Breakfast was standard B&B fare. I arranged my own glacier tour at a travel place downtown (inn can also do it for you). Jorge gave me walking directions to get into town quickly, and also called so I could get transport in the airport shuttle (cheaper than a taxi, but does fill in advance; when you land at the airport, best to grab a place on the shuttle while you wait for your luggage, or you will be left with the only option of a 50 Peso taxi ride, as was I).

    • Liked — Low price and owner's hospitality and honesty
    • Disliked — No TV in the room (others would see this as a definite plus!)
