“Gurda Hotel is perfect”

Gurda Tango Boutique Hotel

What can I say about Gurda Hotel? Words won`t be
enough really.... My wife and I stayed 6 nights in
this incredible boutique hotel. The hotel is perfectly
located in the beautiful and bohemian area of San
Telmo, just 3 blocks aways from Plaza Dorrego and in
front of a beautiful park. The area is really safe and
quiet and it is a walking distance from downtown.
I recommend taking Defensa Street (where the hotel is
located) all the way down to the historical area of
town (Plaza de Mayo, the Cathedral, etc.), and
onto the `city`. We were amazed by every shop, every
traditional `bar`, every house or building and it`s
architecture, and by San Telmo Market. It is really
worth it. On the other hand, breakfast was superb!
They provide a tasty buffet and you could order eggs
and smoothies, and if you had any special request,
they were very pleased to prepare it for you. Very
important: there`s free internet service (wifi) and
the rooms are very quiet.
The room was really nice and had antique furniture
combined with some modern pieces. Really cool. But the
best part of our stay was the extremely friendly,
efficient and professional staff. Front Desk staff was
really warm and helpful. They were waiting for us,
called us by our names and gave my wife a lovely bunch
of flowers at our arrival. They recommeded lots of
places to visit and took the time to explain how to
get there and which bus to take (we moved around in
buses and underground which are very cheap and easy to
catch), and also recommended lots of restaurants round
the area which were not touristic at all, and it was
exactly what we wanted. In one of them we had the best
meat ever. The whole staff made us feel like "part of
the family" because Gurda for us is family now. We`ll
be back soon! We already miss Gurda!

“Hip Spot in San Telmo”

We loved our stay at Hotel Gurda. It is in a perfect spot in San Telmo, right across from Lezama Park, where you will see dog walkers and artists. There are also two historic cafes right on the corner of Barsil and Defensa. We stayed in the Tango Room, which is spacious and romantic. It features a jacuzzi tub and a hip, sexy decor. The hotel staff was very helpful in making reservations for restaurants, tango shows, and taxis. Carolina was the best! San Telmo is an amazing place to be on Sundays and it has a lot of great, bohemian night life within walking distance. We had our free tango lesson at Tasso, which is on the same block as the hotel. The best Tango show was at Bar Sur, which had an intimate atmosphere and top-noch performers. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Constitucion train and subway station. For breakfast, the staff was always happy to make you some eggs to go with the continental buffet. The staff also let us stay in our room until we had to leave for our flight at 7PM for no extra charge. Now that's great service!

“A Gem in a Perfect Location”

Gurda Tango Boutique Hotel

Hotel Gurda was perfect for my Husband and I. We stayed for our first 5 nights on our 2 week trip through Argentina. We loved the old Spanish Style Mansion where all rooms open to a small court yard . The bathroom was small, but we also stayed in one of the smaller rooms. The only thing missing was a hair dryer.

The location is perfect for walking EVERY WHERE in BsAs. We would walk to Boca and SanTelmo as well as walk to catch the Subway.

Best part of the stay was the staff, especially Karina, the day hostess. She really went out of her way to suggest a local restaurant or help us with bookings.

If you enjoy a laid back atmosphere, simple rooms, and friendly people, this is the place for you!

“O.K but expensive compared to other B&Bs in the same area.”

We were originally booked to stay at The Cocker but owing to a 24 flight delay our room had been given away and we had to find alternative accommodation on arriving in the San Telmo area.
We walked into the Gurda and were quoted US$121 for their cheapest room. We accepted as we were desperate to put our luggage down and have a quick shower. The room was very small, with no windows but it had a double bed and a small bathroom with shower. Almost immediately we had trouble with the toilet which my husband (an excellent handyman) found to be missing an important screw from the ball valve mechanism. We reported this to the very friendly receptionist and went out to spend the afternoon in BA. On returning our bags had been moved to another room as they had not been able to fix the toilet.
The next room was slightly larger and had a bath tub. The windowed doors opened onto a small courtyard and so it was not possible to open the windows or blinds and so whilst in the room it was necessary to have the electric lights on all the time as there was no natural light. The bed that night was very comfortable and we slept well. I was told that this room was US$190 but fortunately we had been given a free upgrade.
We left early the next morning (6.00 am) and were very grateful that the staff had left us some juice and a sandwich for our breakfast.
Every member of staff was very friendly, which was a great introduction to BA and Argentina. However, as another review mentioned some of them did not seem to have any local knowledge of rest aurants etc.
The cost of the rooms I felt to be on the high side. Our original choice, the Cocker (just around the corner) was to be US$85 for rooms which have received numerous praise from Tripadvisor reviewers and the press. I feel that $121 for the first room we were shown and $190 for the second very high when you consider neither had windows and both were small. The hotel gave me the impression of being cramped and claustrophobic with poor quality fixture and fittings. The layout meant that it was quite noisy in the rooms and apart from the restaurant and small bar there was no other public area for sitting in.
If the room rates were lower I could have given it a higher star rating but for the money paid I would have liked just a little more space.

“A great experience!”

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on a recent 6 day visit to BA. We had stayed our first 3 nights at the Park Hyatt Palace Duhau and were blown away with the rooms, the grounds and the service there. But they could not accomodate us for the remaining nights, we selected the Gurda based on other reviews here on Tripadvisor. When we arrived at the Gurda, you can imagine how apprehensive we were when we first lay eyes on the property! Yet, we were completely wrong! While we really enjoyed the Park Hyatt and the service there, we really enjoyed the San Telmo area. It felt more like Buenos Aires.
The hotel is small - 7 rooms. We had the Tango Room. We arrived at 11AM fully expecting to not be able to check in. However, the front desk clerk announced us by name and said he was expecting us and that our room was ready!
Upon entering the room, there were rose petals laid out on the bed duvet and fresh-cut flowers on the dresser. The room was large and airy with a jacuzzi tub in the main bedroom area and a shower area separate. The room was adorned with artwork from a local artist (available for sale) and candles to create some ambiance with the jacuzzi tub! Overall, very clean and comfortable.
There was a little outdoor semi-enclosed common area outside of our room which could be used for smoking and conversing with friends etc. On several occasions our sleep was interrupted by people smoking and drinking in these areas late into the evening and the noise filtered into our room.
Breakfast was included and prepared to order. You make your selection from a variety of menu options presented to you on a placard. Our server, who spoke very little English (and whom we suspected had very little experience) was enthusiastic and very eager to please! Overall, not bad, but not the best option if you want to get out early in the morning, and quickly! We did not take advantage of the on-site bar or restaurant, but the ambiance is very nice and the menu looked good.
The front desk clerks were equally enthusiastic and very nice and knowledgeable. There is free wifi internet access but you must ask for the code to their secure access point. Once we figured this out, we were fine. On the day of our departure we had a late night flight and asked if we could store our luggage at the hotel. The clerk at the front desk not only offered to let us keep the room, but we could keep it as long as we needed and were free to come and go throughout the day as they did not have the room rented for that evening. The housekeeper came in and straightened up the room and left us with fresh towels! Nice touch.
We enjoyed our trip to BA and will definitely be back and would definitely consider another stay at the Gurda.
