“Surprisingly Great Stay”

Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center

5 of 5 stars
New York City

My partner and I both bwork as managers for hotels in NYC so we are more critical than others may be. Having said that, we were pleasantly surprised the hotel was better than some reviews here lead you to believe. We were not on a club level or "better room" so it did not influence this review. The room was super clean, no issues with the bathroom, TV or the inroom safe. Security throughout the hotel is excellent. We came back one morning after breakfast to find the maid in our room already. We just wanted to pick up our jackets and she made us not only show her our room key but close the door to demonstrate it was the right key. We have stayed in many many hotels and this is one of the rare times we were impressed y housekeeping security. They also have a large number of security in the lobby at all times.
The elevators were a bit slow, two of the six were out the entire time we were there but we have seen much slower elsewhere. The staff, to a person, was welcoming and willing to help with whatever we needed.
The only negative is room service. We tried it twice and both times found it lacking, once to the point of debating whether we should send it back.
Other than that fault, the hotel has a great location, great staff, excellent security, clean rooms. What else could you want. Buenos Aires is such a great city, you should not spend a lot of time in the hotel anyway, go enjoy and have no worries staying at The Sheraton.

“Worst stay ever”

Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center

Upon arrival, my baggage was taken by the bell man and I received tickets for my luggage. I walked in and was not sure where to go. There is a sign for the car service desk, there is a sign for the bell man's desk, a sign for concierge however I did not see a sign for the front desk to check-in. I figured it out and was then sent up to the 22nd floor for club level check-in.

When I was checking in, I was given a card about the club level and what is included. On this card, it stated there was to be a welcome drink which we never received. It also states that all rooms include flat screen TVs. When we got to our room, there was no flat screen TV. In fact the TV was in a cabinet on a shelf that pulls out. I was too scared to pull out the TV as the shelf looks like it will break.

In addition, in the room were the following issues from the beginning.

*No hotel directory - the sales representative later told me that Starwood is no longer providing hotel directories which has since been revealed is incorrect.
*The clock was set on the incorrect time. I tried to figure out how to correct this but was unable as there were no instructions on how to use the alarm or set the time. I had to call someone to have them come in and correct this for me. (It is not simple.)
*No instructions for how to use the safe. After informing the sales representative about this the first day, this was never resolved. I figured it out however if my mother was here on her own then she would not have known. In addition, I was surprised as to the size of the safe because it is not large enough to fit a laptop.
*The door to the bathroom creeked whenever you closed it. I had to call someone to come and oil the hinges.
*My bed creeks when you sit on it or lay down or move at all because the bed is actually broken as the sales representative confirmed.
*I could not locate any outlets by the desk. They are not clearly visible. I finally found them by coincidence two days later.
*The face plate for the outlet in the bathroom is missing some screws and is crooked and loose. This makes it difficult to plug and unplug anything and is a hazard.
*The shower floods the bathroom.
*After you shower, there is so much moisture in the bathroom that the outlets on the opposite wall are dripping wet.
*The toilet seat was uneven and lopsided.
*There are hard water stains in the bathtub.
*The paint on the ceiling in the bathroom is cracked.
*There was dried paint from the last renovations on the marble countertop. I finally got sick of seeing it and wiped it off with a tissue today, 2 days after I told the sales representative about this.
*The first day I called the operator for some assistance and waited 5 minutes and hung up because no one answered.
*On Tuesday morning, I went to breakfast in the club level lounge. The food was great and the waiters & waitresses were great. I was very surprised to see the hostess showing someone else the buffett when she had not shown us the same curtesy. In addition, when we were sitting with food on our plates, she brought over the check for us to sign. We had not finished our meal and here she was rushing us out (that was how it felt). I did leave these comments for her on the check and on the following day this did not occur again.
*On Wednesday morning, I asked the concierge if he could get me 6 tickets to see a specific show for Thursday night. He told me the price of the tickets. I gave him the money for the tickets and he said, "Your tickets will be here in one hour, would you like to pick them up here or would you like me to send them to your room?" I informed him to please send it to our room as I would be out. When I returned in the evening, I stopped at Concierge and asked about the tickets. There was a different person at the desk who started looking around the desk and said that he did not see anything there for me and perhaps it was in my room. I went to my room and there were no tickets, no money, no nothing. I later found out that they tried to get me tickets but that the show that had just opened and had just started selling tickets that morning was sold out. The manager of the hotel did make this up to us by purchasing 6 tickets to another show for me on the hotel.
*Wednesday night, we got back from an evening out at 2 am. I tried calling to set up a wake up call from my room. The phone rang 15 times and then someone picked up and put me on hold without saying a word. After being on hold for 5 minutes, I put the call on hold and used the other line to call again. Someone picked up immediately. When I asked about the other call, she did not know what to say.
*Thursday morning, after I had showered and brushed my teeth, I was in the bathroom and the electricity went out in the bathroom. All of a sudden I am standing there drying off and the all the lights in only the bathroom go out. I tried the light switches and nothing. I finished getting ready and had to call to have someone fix the lights while I was at breakfast.
*I was informed by two of my friends in Buenos Aires that they had problems getting in touch with us via the telephone. One friend called and provided both my name and my mother´s name with the correct spelling and was told that we were not staying at the property. She was told to check the other Sheraton. She called the other Sheraton and they of course told her we were not staying there. When she called back to this property, she was connected to our room. Our other friend called us three times within a 30 minute time period. The first two times she had no problems getting through. The third time she was told that we were not at this property. She argued with the telephone operator for some time and then they finally put her through to us. I do not understand how this can happen. If she was not so persistent then she would not have been put through.
*Friday morning I lost all electricity in my room, not just the bathroom like on Thursday.

After all of these properties the property did not compensate me in any way and in fact the sales representative was extremely deffensive.

I would not recommend this to anyone.

“Its Okay...”

Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center

I am writing this review as I am currently staying in this hotel.

Its okay. Its a large modernish hotel with a big lobby and lots of businessmen in suits around type place. The elevators are rather slow. The dissapointing thing are the restauarants, one buffet type one and the only other is an overpriced over the top gourmet one, so its a bit like cheap and cheerful, or over the top. Location is fairly ok, but lots of noisy traffic outside in rush hour (6-7pm). Internet access is not inclusive and is rather expensive. The one huge complaint I have is that it costs US $15 each time you want to use the gym. Thats terrible. I have stayed in many hotels all around the world and I have NEVER EVER had to pay to use the hotel gym as a paying hotel guest. Disgusting.

The plus points are nice sized rooms, mine has 2 double beds in it, the TV seems to have a lot of choice of channels. Nice view out the front, but noisy.

I would be happy to stay here again, but I wish they had a better restaurant choice and a free to use gym!

“Construction and mediocre service - needs renovation but at least advise!”

Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center

2 of 5 stars
chapel hill, nc
Apr 3, 2008

The banging and drilling started in the room above mine at 9am. I am here on business and trying in vain to work in my room - I've given up. I've called and gone personally to reception, and the answers I've received about how long it will be going on range from "oh, it shouldn't be much longer" to "they are allowed to work until 6." Of course, there was no notice of construction when the hotel was booked and paid for. Breakfast is pretty good, but service in the restaurant was horrible with the exception of the host. It is definitely "do it yourself." It also took half and hour for my bags to make it to my room after I was already in it. Consequently, I was late to a dinner meeting. I would never stay here again.

“Good Experience”

Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center

4 of 5 stars
Birmingham, AL
Feb 11, 2008

We spent 2 nights - Feb 2&3 - at the Sheraton. The location was great. It's an easy walk to shopping and dining. Our room was nice, as were all of the hotel facilities. The staff was helpful. Also, the hotel is undergoing some renovations, so there is a little noise. Other reviewers mentioned slow elevators, but I did not find that to be an issue.

The only real downside to the hotel is traffic noise. My room faced the river, and right below the window was a busy street. It was not an issue at all over the weekend, but around 6AM on Monday, trucks began to back up. As the traffic jam got worse, the drivers became inpatient and honked...frequently. Bring some earplugs.
