“One of the best things you'll ever do”

If you're an outgoing, active person and you're in Sabah, you owe it to yourself to climb Mt Kinabalu. It's certainly not the easiest trek you'll ever do but it's perhaps the most rewarding.

As other tourists have said, the views from Low's Peak at sunrise are incredible and worth all the effort of climbing the mountain.

Between four to six hours of climbing on the first day and another three or four on the second morning will get you to Low's Peak, while another six hours on the second day will see you safely down the mountain.

You don't have to be an Olympic athlete to complete the climb. My wife and I, both aged 25, completed the climb with little preparation, other than regular walks around the neighbourhood in Australia. If you're reasonably fit and you have no existing injuries or health conditions, you'll be fine.

The best part of the climb is that you don't need any special climbing equipment -- just walk to the top. You'll need a warm, windproof jacket, some gloves and a headlamp or torch, but other than that, you'll be fine.

My wife and I did the climb as part of our honeymoon in Sabah and it was outstanding. You can read more about our climb and view a photo gallery at (---)
Do yourself a favour and climb Mt Kinabalu. You'll never regret it.

KK was absolutely amazing, sights were breathtaking, especially at sunrise and the next few hours after the descent as the sun rises and catches the rocky surfaces on different angles. You'll feel ontop of the world!

Take plenty of snacks, dry clothes & ponchos, & leave early enough (9-10am) to enjoy the sights and get there in time to dry out some of your clothes and relax. Extra blankets and sleepingbags can be hired on the mountain - you'll need them. If you know a few sentances in Malay your guide can be very entertaining & informative. I recommend spending a few days at Manukan Island to let your quads recover!
Cheers xoxo

Mount Kinabalu is the third highest mountain in Southeast Asia, with the highest peak at 4095.2m. The trek is divided into day one and day two starting from the Parks HQ. The climb is relatively ok without the need for climbing mountain gears. We have to embark on the summit climb on day 2 at 0245hrs in order to catch the sunrise. I can assure you - you will never regret it when you see the sunrise and the beautiful clouds below you. You can read more at worldisround.com/articles/165303/index

The mountain road up to Mount Kinabalu, is in places under repair due to land slides, understandable as they get 5 metres, yes 20' of rain per year, avoid the wet season. But the closer you get the draw becomes stronger.
The first full sighting makes everybody go silent. It has a certian something that just demands respect and indeed keeps you wanting to look and stare all day.
Hey, dont take my word for it, go see yourself. Wake up in the morning whilst staying at one of the mountain lodges, pull back the blind and wallop, Mount Kinabalu, bathed in the sunrise, towering some 2500meters above you.
