We flew out on the 19th May for 2 weeks.
The hotel itself for decor and cleanliness is second to none. We had a family room, which was spacious and of a high standard. The only downside was it was on the top floor and with a toddler in a buggy and a 4 year old plus all the beach toys gave us the exercise we needed for the fortnight. However this wasnt a major issue. Loved the towel art! The hotel grounds were spotless and so huge you could always find a sunbed in a good spot . The beach is a bit shingley near and in the water but a good pair of beach shoes solved the problem. The rest of the sand is okay although it gets rather hot. We only went to the beach once, as we are pool people, and it was better for the kids. The gardens are well maintained with beautiful flowers and the bar tenders collect glasses on a regular basis.
Our 4 year old loved the waterslides in the adjoining hotel, although it took us a week to realise we were walking the wrong way, going past the trade entrance, round the back of the kitchens and up an alleyway with a bendy silver tube to get to it. No wonder we were getting funny looks from all the kitchen staff. We later found that you went through a building at the side of reception which lead us staright to the top of the slides.
We found the staff to be very polite, we tipped occassionally but did not find the service poor when we didn't. The dining hall restaurent was of a good size and we never had to wait for a table. The food wasn't cold, sometimes pipping hot, and was of a good standard, however became a little repetative after a fourtnight. We joked that it was just a variation of Chicken, pototoes, veg and rice each day, but we never went hungry. The salad was fresh and my son tended to opt for the pasta station which was cooked fresh to order.
We went to Naama Bay, yes you do get hassled but these people have to make a living and there is no more pressure than you find elsewhere, such as Jamaica. Just say no and they generally leave you alone.
The only downside to our holiday was the egyptian tummy, which started 4 days into our holiday. We took the local remedy which helped but still only gave you a 5 minute warning so to speak. All our tummies didnt clear up till we got home. The entertainment wasn't that good either but with a 1 and 4 year old, bedtime was around 8.00 pm, so we just played cards on the balcony. However I appreciate that some people may be looking for more than this. We did go to the beach party one night, but it was all in italian and it was a little embarrassing to see other nationalities dancing like your uncle at a family do and doing the birdie song, but again what ever floats your boat when you're on holiday! The hotel itself was a bit isolated from any other entertainment, the resort itself only had a few shops and a supermarket, but I reckon with the amount of building going off in another 5 years this issue will be resolved.
Some resorts and hotels I would not go back to, however I am pleased to say I think the Jaz Mirabel beach has not fallen into this catagory. Lovely people, lovely hotel, fantastic weather.
P.S. On a final note the henna tattoo which I paid £20-00 and was told would last over a month barely lasted the week out. The guy goes round the hotel when youre sunbathing asking everyday if you want one. You'll know him when you see him. just be warned.
