“Value Week Away”

Jaz Mirabel Beach

Jul 18, 2008

Large, new and excellent value for money. Food and drinks service good - especially if you give a few tips. Food quality was fine although I avoided things that weren't cooked! Tennis courts excellent, spa good and heated pool very welcome!
Major problem trying to get internet connection or anything else not obviously available, but for around £550 for a week of fantastic weather in what was, overall, a great place, it's hard to beat.
If you expect 5 star standards you'll be disapointed. If you expect really exceptional value for money with good food, drinks, facilities etc - you'll be delighted.

“Lovely Hotel - BUT”

Jaz Mirabel Beach

4 of 5 stars
Clacton - UK
Jul 15, 2008

Just returned after a two week stay at the Jaz Mirabel Beach. On arrival and after a brief exploration, we were really impressed by the hotel and it's facilities.

Rooms were excellent and the bathroom with the walk-in shower was brilliant. Watch the hot water though as it is VERY HOT when the lever in both the shower and basin is put right over.

The bars were very smart and well staffed and we didn't have to wait long for drinks which are brought to your table. There was a good selection of drinks and cocktails.

Buffet restaurant room was efficiently run and the 'overseers' chastised their staff vigorously if tables weren't cleared quickly or if there was a delay with drinks arriving. Servery was generally kept well stocked and the food was good quality although sometimes the choice was a tiny bit limited.

Pools were brilliant and we never had any difficulty finding sun beds and these were in very good condition. The poolside bars and snack bars were efficiently run and the poolside waiters provided a prompt and cheerful service.

The beach was adequate and obviously man-made. Due to water depth not a place for swimmers - take reef shoes as the coral is sharp. Again, absolutely no problem getting sun beds and the beach bars were, again, very efficient and friendly.

Entertainment was typical for Red Sea hotels but the large animation team worked and tried very hard to ensure people enjoyed themselves. I must make special mention of one of the animation team, Irina, a lovely Russian girl who always came to have chat with our party (two middle-aged couples) to or three times a day; she certainly improved our attitude towards Russians that from previous holidays to Egypt had been low. Lots of day-time activities available and also regular evening entertainment.

All the staff try really hard to make your visit special; some over do it a bit and can become a bit of a pain at times but it's only because of their desire to please. Reception staff were helpful and friendly. I must mention one of the Guest Relation staff, Ekatrina (another Russian) who was particularly helpful and extremely nice.

The two Thomson reps also done a good job and were helpful and pleasant and were some of the best we had experienced in our many travels.

So, what's the BUT?

During our last three or four days, about 200 guests from a particular middle-eastern country arrived and the whole persona of the place changed. They descended on the restaurant like a plague of locusts filling numerous plates simultaneously and filling their tables resulting in the servery running out of both plates and food resulting in unacceptable waits. Also the bars became very noisy and it felt like you were in a very busy indoor swimming pool. They’re general attitude was one of general rudeness and a total disregard for fellow guests. However, the worst was yet to come!!!!

Due to they’re religious believes, the women go in to the pool fully dressed in burqas, which is rather unhygienic considering they will have dust and possibly food on them. However, on our last two days, there were three incidents of these woman carrying out they’re ablutions in the swimming pools. In other words, they defecated [--] in the pool. I was unfortunate to discover it during the second of the three incidences when, immediately after they had vacated the pool, I discovered large amounts of human adult faeces where they had been standing and where I was about to swim. In all cases, the relevant pools had to be closed until they were cleared and sterilised.

The hotel Manager, when confronted and was very apologetic but suggestions from many, many people that they should be kicked out were met with, “if you can find me two hundred guests a week to replace them then I will but otherwise….”.

We informed the Thomson Reps and they informed us that the hotel Manager had previously warned all reps that these people were coming and that they are normally, “a problem”. Apparently, ‘guests’ from this particular country will be there from early July until just before the end of August so be warned!!!!

Only other (minor) moan is that, despite being all exclusive, any drinks taken from the fridge in the room are charged for.

Jaz Mirabel Beach

just returned from a two week break at Mirabel beach. i traveled with my boyfriend and we both absolutely loved it and would defiantly recommend this hotel.

first impressions of the hotel wow its a palace. the service was fabulous cannot complain. we had a great waiter at meal time's called waleed .... he would have our drinks ready as soon as he seen us arrive and entertain us with sum good old card tricks while we ate. the food was good not 5 star but was not expecting that, good variety and didn't get repetitive only breakfast which cant be helped, we ate at the pool bar most days for a bit of a change, which again was great.

really hot weather at the time we went, spent most of the time in the pools and getting in the shade every so often. cant not mention the sea life you see when snorkeling in the sea brilliant.

we did the trip to Cairo booking with Thompson for two adults was £310, which was quite a lot and although we had a great day and the sights were amazing i did not think it was worth the price. the food that we were provided with at the restaurant was disgusting but as i was soo hungry i had to eat it and unfortunately got really ill.. but the antibiotic given by the chemist soon did the trick.
we also did the vip cruise which was amazing again seen loads of fish and was lucky enough to see a bunch of dolphins.

overall we had one of the best holidays yet, service food and hotel all met of needs to have a really good holiday

“AMAZING!”

Jaz Mirabel Beach

5 of 5 stars

Incredible hotel, definately 5 star. Staff are amazing and make you feel at home, really friendly and will do anything for you. Heard a lot of bad things about the food but it is not possible to get bored as there is different food on offer every evening to suit the themes they have. It is buffet style which is the only issue we had, but it is lovely, well cooked and plenty of choice. The food does not make you ill. The sun makes you ill as we are not used to it and sit out in it all day, we also saw many people having alcoholic drinks in the day which makes you even more dehydrated than you already are...drink plenty of water and dont sit out in the sun all day and you will be fine. The only thing we avoided was salads and we didnt get ill.
The hotel is stunning. The only issue we had was with the beach which is not what you expect as it is not sand it is more like small stones with broken shells and you cant walk on it without beach shoes. we only went to the beach to go snorkeling 15mins to your left absolutely amazing better fish than on a snorkle boat trip which we also did with mr diver and was great value for money..though watch the italians there were 6 english to around 20 italians who were very rude and even stole our towel. also the guide speaks italian and not english.
we did the stars and dinner with thomson which i also reccomed though we did not believe it to be value for money and it was very very hot. and take insect repellent.
Naama bay is 30 mins away get the shuttle bus from reception for £3.80 return. we went in the day and at night. Too hot in the day we spent it in the hard rock cafe cos it was too hot. Night time was good though hard rock cafe is dirt cheap..£3 for a burger would have gone twice if we had known. Atmosphere at night also good a good night out strongly reccommend it. Old Sharm was the same as naama bay but dirty smelly and not as good. taxi is £20 return from hotel...they make a lot more comments to the women here and i have to say i really didnt like it and found it quite disturbing.

Overall Egypt is a fantastic place I never imagined I would enjoy it as much as I did and I am gutted to be home. The weather was very very hot in June July when we were there and i only imagine it gets hotter...like late 40's. I would definately go back, definately to this hotel which I cannot fault, but I would go back when it was cooler as you couldnt really do much in the day.
