Just returned after a two week stay at the Jaz Mirabel Beach. On arrival and after a brief exploration, we were really impressed by the hotel and it's facilities.
Rooms were excellent and the bathroom with the walk-in shower was brilliant. Watch the hot water though as it is VERY HOT when the lever in both the shower and basin is put right over.
The bars were very smart and well staffed and we didn't have to wait long for drinks which are brought to your table. There was a good selection of drinks and cocktails.
Buffet restaurant room was efficiently run and the 'overseers' chastised their staff vigorously if tables weren't cleared quickly or if there was a delay with drinks arriving. Servery was generally kept well stocked and the food was good quality although sometimes the choice was a tiny bit limited.
Pools were brilliant and we never had any difficulty finding sun beds and these were in very good condition. The poolside bars and snack bars were efficiently run and the poolside waiters provided a prompt and cheerful service.
The beach was adequate and obviously man-made. Due to water depth not a place for swimmers - take reef shoes as the coral is sharp. Again, absolutely no problem getting sun beds and the beach bars were, again, very efficient and friendly.
Entertainment was typical for Red Sea hotels but the large animation team worked and tried very hard to ensure people enjoyed themselves. I must make special mention of one of the animation team, Irina, a lovely Russian girl who always came to have chat with our party (two middle-aged couples) to or three times a day; she certainly improved our attitude towards Russians that from previous holidays to Egypt had been low. Lots of day-time activities available and also regular evening entertainment.
All the staff try really hard to make your visit special; some over do it a bit and can become a bit of a pain at times but it's only because of their desire to please. Reception staff were helpful and friendly. I must mention one of the Guest Relation staff, Ekatrina (another Russian) who was particularly helpful and extremely nice.
The two Thomson reps also done a good job and were helpful and pleasant and were some of the best we had experienced in our many travels.
So, what's the BUT?
During our last three or four days, about 200 guests from a particular middle-eastern country arrived and the whole persona of the place changed. They descended on the restaurant like a plague of locusts filling numerous plates simultaneously and filling their tables resulting in the servery running out of both plates and food resulting in unacceptable waits. Also the bars became very noisy and it felt like you were in a very busy indoor swimming pool. They’re general attitude was one of general rudeness and a total disregard for fellow guests. However, the worst was yet to come!!!!
Due to they’re religious believes, the women go in to the pool fully dressed in burqas, which is rather unhygienic considering they will have dust and possibly food on them. However, on our last two days, there were three incidents of these woman carrying out they’re ablutions in the swimming pools. In other words, they defecated [--] in the pool. I was unfortunate to discover it during the second of the three incidences when, immediately after they had vacated the pool, I discovered large amounts of human adult faeces where they had been standing and where I was about to swim. In all cases, the relevant pools had to be closed until they were cleared and sterilised.
The hotel Manager, when confronted and was very apologetic but suggestions from many, many people that they should be kicked out were met with, “if you can find me two hundred guests a week to replace them then I will but otherwise….”.
We informed the Thomson Reps and they informed us that the hotel Manager had previously warned all reps that these people were coming and that they are normally, “a problem”. Apparently, ‘guests’ from this particular country will be there from early July until just before the end of August so be warned!!!!
Only other (minor) moan is that, despite being all exclusive, any drinks taken from the fridge in the room are charged for.
