“Great Hotel”

Just got back from Sharm and loved it. Was my first time and wanted to stay in a nice hotel at a reasonable price. Read a lot of good reviews regarding this hotel and got a great price through teletext holidays.
The hotel is quite near to the airport and you can hear some planes taking off landing but don't let that put you off. Also there are a few rooms that I believe face the runway !
The grounds are well maintained, hotel and rooms are very clean. Internet is £7.50 per hour for internet, around £5 for a full wash, dry and iron, lose a towel it's £7.50, taxi to the airport is £6.50.

The staff are very friendly and are very good with children. Food is better than ok, a lot of variety especially at breakfast.
Pool bar food is ok too.

The sister hotel which is basically a 2 min walk has a nice private beach which is good for snorkeling. Food and drink is good too.

Overall I had a great time, any questions email me.

“not 5* never again”

Sunrise Island Garden Resort

Jul 12, 2008

myself and my husband have just come back from the sunrise island garden resort after staying there for 2 weeks. never been to egypt befor and would not want to go back, as soon as we got there they jump on you in the airport for a taxi you dont pay the taxi driver you pay someone else who walks around very strange we got to the hotel about 2am very quite no one about we where given our room 538 nearly on the run way as you are very close and can here every plane comming in and going out i had asked for a pool view and a double bed but did not get either, next day complained at reception and we were moved to room 211 that was ok pool view but very noisey from the airport, no way a 5* i would give it a 3* food not good could not find anything to eat and after speaking to some other people they felt the same, waiters ok but only get half a drink never full after dinner everybody sits in the reception no where to go you feel like you are in a bubble, trapped, you can get a mini bus into namma bay it takes about 45 mins or hotel taxi can take you there for £10.00 return never felt safe there and you dont get left alone you have to barter for all your drinks they charge what they want. no way was it cheep out there you could not get a newspaper for under £4.00 and that was a day old, never any change, no phone lines to england worked the whole time we where there i would really think about comming to this place as i would not go back again if you paid me.you will have to get up very early if you want a sunbed around 5.30am unless you are willing to tip the pool man every day all the time not good hope this has helped if any questions please ask away.

Where do i start? we go abroad twice a year and are well travelled and have never been to the same resort twice, we are easily pleased and expect nothing more than value for money!Well 5* hotel it isn't more like a 2/3. I went with my husband and children ranging from 8 months to 17 years, the flight with XL was good but that's about as good as it gets.As soon as you get off the plane you are under no illusions and it is blatantly obvious that it is the Egyptians sole intention is to extract as much money out of you as humanly possible The hotel is typically thrown together with unfinished areas and very rough around the edges, it is desperately in need of a revamp as it is very tired, the food is very bland and very repetitive, the staff are very polite as long as you are tipping them (excluding the reception staff who are very rude ), although we requested a ground floor apartment we were put in a second floor one, we protested to no avail as we had 2 toddlers in pushchairs and were up and down to the room several times a day, my poor husband was exhausted. There are 3 pools which all in all a quite clean however we had to pay one of the pool boys to ensure we had sunbeds and a vital umbrella around the kids pool ever day as the kids pool seemed to be the favourite haunt for groups of youths and older people which meant lots of families with younger children had to sit around the big pools and keep a constant vigil on the kids ( not very relaxing) The pool bar was virtually inaccessible for the second week of our stay as they decided to cordon it off to lay a new floor ( a lovely view and lots of dust) not that this was much of a loss as the drinks from there were always warm, half a plastic glass and never any ice, they look at you with disgust if you complain that the drinks are warm ( like its 40 degrees why would you need to give the kids a cold drink??). The evening entertainment is an absolute joke. If you venture off the resort then be prepared to be harassed by every single Egyptian who catches sight of you! my husband, not renowned for his tolerance of harassment lost his temper on numerous occasions which didn't deter them at all. The beach is coral covered with a thin layer of sand and access to the sea is a steep drop and is no way ideal for kids. And last but not least when you check out the bellboy collects your suitcases from your room and stands them outside the hotel with everyone else's and then when your airport transport arrives they load them all for you, then you get to the airport and low and behold they left one of our suitcases at the hotel. We have been emailing the hotel since our return and at first they replied to our emails stating that the suitcase would be returned and as soon as they had details they would email us back but wanted us to exonerate the bellboy from any blame as he would lose his job for incompetence, but wait for it! as soon as we did this they stopped replying to emails and are now ignoring us! XL gave us a claim line number which is unreachable. All in all it was a very bad experience and £3550 down the pan as we came back more stressed than when we went!

“Thank Goodness for Meeting Such Lovely People”

Sunrise Island Garden Resort

Jul 7, 2008

Hi There
Well we got back from the Sunrise Island 2 weeks ago now ... and for the whole 2 weeks we were there, i was very ill with stomach cramps and the rest that goes with it. FABULOUS!

The hotel itself we had no problem with, pools were big and refreshing, be prepared for a shock when you get in though as it is freezing, the rooms were say comfortable.

The food is very repetative and the drinks predominantly were given in warm glasses, which in 40 degree heat is not the best, no wonder i was sick, and i was not the only one, although mine seemed to last longer, i found out why when i got back as on the plane home my cramps got worse and i had to go straight to casualty when we landed, my BP was low and the doctors advised i had had and was still suffering sever food poisoning, they prescried buscopan to which i am only now getting back to normal.

On the food side we would recommend the BBQ, We were also told by a majority of others that the Italian was worth a visit, book early though as you can only go to both ONCE a week each.

As we were over there when Euros kicked off, like most we wanted to catch the games, what a saga that was, Sunrise has a sister hotel which you can use, but to say you are Limited would be an understatement, you have to get a pass, and with it, you get to soft drink tokens and 2 alchoholic ones, thats it for 2 people for the entire night, ridiculous, they also seemed to put the footie on in the other hotel, so you had to go there to watch it, now and again there was a game on at our hotel, also they seemed to have better entertainment at the sister hotel too, so all in all it is better catered for then what the sunrise island is.

The highlight of our holiday were the great people we met, Alex and Paul, Bobby Charlton and Petra, Jimmy and John, Mark and Sue, All the peeps were lovely which made the holiday better, Hi to everyone if you get to read this love Roni and George x

So to conclude, if you like the following, then go forth and enjoy your hols

Warm Drinks
Alchoholic beverages were minging, they had a horrible taste, also cocktails - i tried one when we got there it was lovely, went to order the same drink again and they made it diff and tasted euwwwwww, only beer was ok
No Ice
Eating the same food for 2 weeks
Stuggle to get an umbrella/sunbed by the pool unless you want to get up at 6am to throw your towels on that is
Cramps and Illness

But if you dont want the above, my honest advise is too STEER CLEAR of this hotel, sorry if it sounds harsh but i am giving a totally honest review from what we found after visiting this hotel.

We have been to Taba Heights in Egypt before and stayed at the 3 corners resort to where I would definately recomment a visit as the food, drinks etc etc was all lovely and available

Take care Roni and Georg

“Honest review !”

Sunrise Island Garden Resort

5 of 5 stars

After reading some of the reviews on here and how much they vary ie 10/10 to 1/10 we were wary of going to this hotel but i have tried to be as honest as possible with this my 1st hotel review.

Just returned back from Sunrise Island Garden on 25th June. Only 2 of us and our 1st time visiting Egypt (Booked to guarantee the weather - were we in for a surprise?).

Booked via Travel Republic and flew with XL from EMA.

Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted with the usual "Welcome Home" which we agreed was a nice touch and also provided with drinks which seemed to taste wonderful even though we had only just travelled the 30 mins coach journey from the airport (Why 30 mins?? when it is so close dont ask me - closest hotel to the airport but we were last ones off the bus)

Anyway back to the Hotel - The room itself was in the far block near to the Health Spa on the ground floor. 3 Single beds but we coped. Rooms are spacious and furniture all ok. TV was ok as we spent a few nights watching the late films on the english channel .(Incidentaly found out how to re tune the tv near end of the holiday and got a better picture than it was originally)

Room was cleaned EVERY single day and towels changed when we asked them to be by putting them in the shower. We did have quiet a few flies for 1st couple of nights when we got back to the room but the room cleaner must have realised when he saw the swatted ones and closed the door while he cleaned the room after that. We did also get a few ants but realised the patio door was not fully closed and had no problems after that.

During our holiday our main complaint was the weather which is what we originally booked here for. It was just too hot and some days was measured as being 47 deg. My wife usually enjoys the sun but even she ended up using factor 30 cream to protect her.
The pools are a quick and easy relief from this heat and were regulary used.

Animation team are a good laugh and they ask if you want to join in with darts/aerobics/water polo etc or if you are feeling "Lazee today?" Felt sorry for the one guy that had his trunks removed in the pool while we were there but im sure he would get his own back !

Pool and Bed attendants were very helpful and only takes them about 2 days to get to remember your room number/if you want a umberella and where you like to laze around etc. Mohammed was really friendly and sorted us out every day!

Evening entertainment was a bit limited with kids disco starting at 20.30 and evening entertainment all finished apart from a few songs at 22:00. We did see a few shows Belly dancing/Spinning dancers etc which were very good and the opa opa song is very catchy and adictive (found myself humming it days after we got home)

Karaoke night was a laugh with the smallest selection of songs to choose i have ever seen (half a page of A4).

Food was all very well presented and variations were made each day with different themes. Waiters etc all very good in the restaraunts and bar staff always made you smile.

My wife did get some form of allergic reaction to something but we could not identify what it was. We went to see the doctor at the sister hotel and he gave her an injection with some medicine and creams which cleared this up straight away (Cost 80 Euros).

We also tried out the Cleopatra treatment at the health spa which comprised of -

5 mins Sauna/Coconut cream body wrap and sea salt to palms and feet/shower/jacuzzi/5 mins Sauna and then massage. This cost £30 each but lasted a total of 2 hours and we both enjoyed it.

Some building work was carried out while we were there around the pool bar area which was fitted with new floor tiles and also 4 off fans installed. This caused a disruption to getting drinks etc as you had to walk all the way round the pool for a drink. (see photo)

Snack bar food - Good

Beach at Sunrise Island View is also worth a visit if only to look at the fish off the jetty. Free bus every 10 mins. Free soft drinks and food from here using your wrist band and also alchoholic drink vouchers are available from customer services in reception.
Take your towels though.

Other points -

Shops near hotel - very good come in handy for drinks etc and my wife also had her hair braided at the hairdressers for £25

Blue & White Taxis - get on your nerves keep pipping /Men with camels - Avoid!!

Naama Bay - Shop keepers etc hassle you but just keep saying no. Taxi from hotel cost £10 return.

Would we return ? - Liked the hotel but we are used to a bit more nightlife and being able to go for a walk round at night. So maybe not! If you like Eygpt then you cant go far wrong with this hotel!!
