“Stay All Inclusive or pay!!!”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

My partner and I have just returned from a 11 night stay at The Savoy. When we booked the hotel online via Fresh Holidays we could only book Half board or full board, this did not include any drinks. We decided to stay half board as we wanted to have the opportunity to dine outside of the hotel should we wish. Full board just meant we got lunch included which we do not normaly eat anyway.

Unfortunately we made the wrong choice as half board meant that we could only eat in the buffet restaurant not the A La Carte. The buffet was quite awfull. We were under the impression that half board meant breakfast and dinner, however, if we wished to eat the decent food served in the A La Carte we had to pay 75%. Surley, half board means that you can have your breakfast and dinner where you choose?

What the hotel website does not tell you is that the prices in the A La Carte are on par if not MORE than the UK, Steak for £17 fish for £16. vodka and coke for £6.50!!!! These prices are more expensive than London and they are trying to charge them in Egypt! We ate at the A La Carte once, realised that we were paying extortionate amounts of money for the country we were in and decided to eat out most nights. So, in all, a waste of paying for Half board.

Having said that, the room was very nice, large and spacious with a lovely balcony and bathroom. The grounds were immaculate, very well tended by a small army of gardeners (hence restaurant and bar prices I presume) and the bar staff on the beach were lovely and attentive. Also the coral reef near the jetty of the hotel is just stunning. Buy a mask and snorkell before you go, as like us, you will become hooked and want to snorkelling on your next holidays too!

As I read on a previous review DO NOT ask the hotel to book you a taxi, they book you a mercedes limo and charge you £40 plus to go anywhere a normal taxi would charge you 1/3 of the price.

The Shop opposite the hotel has no prices on the items so be prepared to be ripped off by the staff, ask them for a printed receipt - will save you £££££.

80% of the guests are Russian, so be prepared for pushing in line, arrogance and general rudeness. Unfortunately, the treat the hotel staff like dirt and it is very sad to see.

If you like to stay inside one resort for you holiday then this place is perfect for relaxing and unwinding if you are All Inclusive, if however, you are like us and like to venture away from your hotel, go somehere else, the surrounding area is barron and dessert and Namm'a Bay is very busy with touts trying to get you to buy some worthless souvenier crap that your only going to throw when you get home anyway.
I

Loved the underwater world of Sharm, shame about the dry land!

“Great resort, fantastic food and very hot”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

The Savoy hotel could not be faulted in any way and the weather was around 40 the whole time but with a nice breeze on most days.

Our room was cleaned twice a day, spacious and very comfortable. Little dated but they are working on updating all of the rooms now.

The pool area was kept beautiful; pool attendants very helpful and the bar staff kept us refreshed throughout the day - Mahmoud needs a special mention here :)
Restaurants were all superb although we didn't eat in the Tirana (buffet style) on any evening.
What some people weren't aware of was that there were 3/4 other restaurants across the road that were also included on the all inclusive basis. There were Chinese, Indian and Middle Eastern (soon to be a Ukranian also) and a really funky bar which served some great cocktails.
The food quality and choice is amazing, the Indian or Italian was our favourite but they were all 5* quality.
Evening entertainment is a little bit limited but that suited us just fine, the African dancers one night were fantastic. Again, bar staff were so attentive and made you feel so welcome. Particularly Mo (Mohammed) in the Le Balconie bar.

One evening we went to N'ama Bay and wish we hadn't bothered. Got hassled from the minute we got out of the taxi and found people very intimidating. We couldn't wait to get back into another taxi and get back.
Be careful with taxis. You should only pay 50 Egyptian pounds to get to and from the Savoy to N'ama Bay and they were trying to charge 100. Haggle with them to get them down and even pretend to walk away from them and they will give in.

Sharm airport - what a nightmare!
If you are not looking to go sight-seeing and just staying on the hotel resort or local areas, go straight to passport control (to the right as you walk in). They will try and make you get a visa (which is on the left hand side) but you don't need one unless you are venturing out to places like Cairo etc. It looks very confusing but just bear this in mind.

We were really worried about getting funny tummies whilst we were away but we are fine all week. We drank lots of water during the day and used an antibacterial hand wash throughout the day. We ate all different foods from the salads to fish to cream cakes and had no problems at all. We even had ice which was fine as it's made from bottled water.
Just don't drink the water out of the tap, even when brushing your teeth we were advised to use bottled water.

Hope this helps!

We can't wait to book again next year!

“Loved the Savoy!”

We arrived Christmas Day 2007 that it myself, husband and 2 daughters not having been away for Xmas before we was all a little unsure if we had done the right thing, we had I am pleased to say and we had a wonderful welcome on arrival, with bell ringers in Xmas attire.
Our stay was for 2 weeks and our room was perfect (room 7016) if you have children this is a great area to be based as there is the children's pool, trampoline and the kids club (which is free) the girls loved it in there and where free to come and go as they pleased.
Overall the hotel was nice, full of Russians I must admit and the service could have been better but the hotel was nice and clean, the room where spacious and had sky TV with limited channels but we managed to see a film most nights.
Loads of restaurants fish, italian etc etc.
Pools are lovely, look fab and heated (not the very large main pool though) beach is superb with waiter service and a dipping pool which is great.
I would recommend this hotel very much it is not too far from Naama Bay but be warned not to get a taxi through the hotel as you will pay a lot lot more if you go outside the main entrance to the hotel you can pick up a cab there for about £5.00 barter with the drivers too they will all try it on.
I liked it that much that I am taking my Mum there in September although I did win this as a prize from the hotel at the New Years Eve Gala Dinner but even so I would still go back.

“Value For Money”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

We have just returned from a lovely All Inclusive weeks stay at The Savoy Hotel - Sharm El Sheikh. We were unsure as to what to expect from the mixed reviews we had read, however for what we paid we had a brilliant holiday.

The rooms aren't the best we have stayed in, fairly basic and in desperate need of a revamp, however everything else that the hotel has to offer more than makes up for this. The gardens are beautiful, three fabulous pools of varying depth, including a fairly shallow one for young children with a swim up bar, and a good size beach offering a number of water sport options. Please note that the beach isn't particulary child friendly as you can only enter the sea from a jetty due to the coral. However for adults its fantastic to have such wonderful diving on the doorstep.

The hotel offers a wide number of restaurant choices. Within the hotel you can choose from Italian, Seafood, Mixed Grill and an International theme. Across the road, also part of the Savoy and only just opened, is Soho Square. This incorporates the Mandarin bar which often screens live sports events, and three fantastic restaurants - Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern. The service is second to none and we were especially impressed at the efforts the chefs made to cook 'Western' food for our young children (whatever they wanted each night) whilst we ate from the more exotic menu's.The hotel is very particular on mens attire and it is essential that men wear long trousers ( jeans allowed) and no flip flops/sandals otherwise you are refused entry. Our only critisism of the restaurants is the smoking. A large percentage of guests are Russian and very heavy smokers. None of the restaurants are non- smoking and its frustrating have to eat your breakfast, lunch and dinner surrounded by smoke!! I think the Eyptians are catching on though as on our last night the staff made efforts to seat us away from the smokers.

Be prepared for tummy upsets! We were exceptionally careful but still fell ill. The hotel uses bottled water for ice cubes but we were still wary and I would reccommend using bottled water for teeth brushing. The reps will tell you that the pool harbours the worst bacteria despite it being chemically treated every night. The onsite doctor is very good and is able to administer fast acting drugs.

The final point I would like to add is if you are buying anything be very clear about the currency. The Egyptians will quote randomly in Sterling, USA Dollars, Egyptians pounds and Euros which makes it very difficult working out exactly what you are paying. We even had two items on our hotel checkout bill in two different currencies which is frustrating when you think you have paid one price but in fact its another, much more expensive one!!

We got the impression that Sharm is aiming at being the next 'Dubai'! Next door to the Savoy they are just finishing building an ice rink and media complex (cinema, bowling etc), due to open very shortly.

If you are planning a stay in Sharm then I reccommend staying at the Savoy. The service is fantastic, good range of food choices and lovely extras such as free sports activity, 7 items of clothing laundered and welcome fruit bowl. Despite its rating on tripadvisor, locally its considered one of the top three hotels in Sharm to stay at (alongside The Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton) which probably says it all!!

“Loved Royal Savoy”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

May 24, 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

Four of us (two couples) stayed at the Royal Savoy between 11-18 May 2008. Our overall experience of the hotel and resort was excellent , the staff were attentive and friendly, rooms very clean and comfertable and the hotel was not overcrowded.

I would recommend booking at the Royal Savoy as you will get a more personal service which will make your holiday more relaxing. You will be checked inn at a separate reception and have breakfast and free drinks /snacks, throughout the day, at a private lounge away from the hussle and bussle of the Savoy hotel guests.

The whole resort is kept spotless, the gardens are constantly pruned, common areas cleaned and the rooms are cleaned twice a day.

The beach is a good size with plently of space for all the guests, unfortunately if you want to swim you will have to use the snorkling platform as the beach/sea is surrounded by coral. I would recommend snorkling as the sea is crystal clear and there are lots of beautiful fish.

A word of warning for the men, we were not told that men cannot wear shorts to the various restaurants at the resort and no open toe sandals either, so plan ahead, we didnt..

Another word of warning, this has nothing to do with the resort and can happen anywhere in Sharm, you will get some form of upset stomach, either followed by diorreah or vomitting. This is because our (UK) stomatchs are not use to their water, food. I would recommend avoiding ice in drinks, not eating uncooked vegg and washing fruit in bottled water before eating them and brushing your teeth using botled water, also buy some meds before you travel.

We went to Cairo for the day, go by plane, the pyramids were amazing, the Nyle was amazing and the people are friendly. You will get a lot of hassle at the pyramids, but thats to be expected, so just say no. Although the camel ride at the pyramids I would recommend.

Nama Bay is nothing special so don't expect a cultural experience, its very tourist orientated and over priced, personally I was dissapointed.

The weather was amazing, for May 11-18, not a cloud in the sky and 27-35 degrees so be sure to pack loads of sun lotion.

Overall, I would recommend the Royal Savoy, Sharm el Sheikh and will be going again. So if you do decide to go there, have a great time!!!
