Cannot understand why this is not in the top 5.
Anybody who complains about this hotel, must have a weird sense of what to expect from a 'proper 5 star'. We had private transfers to the hotel, accompanied by a guide, upon arrival we were seated in the lobby, given cool towels and a welcome cocktail, our check in was taken care of for us, and our room prepared whilst we enjoyed our cocktails.
In room everything was spotless, our very own housekeeper, kept it perfect for us all week, top class service, regardless of what we requested. The room was perfectly located, there was no noice and we were never disturbed.
All amenities are clearly explained and it is made quite clear what times the restaurants close, so don't turn up for breakfast at 10.15 when it closes at 10.30!.
During the week, at any one of the very nice, spacious and well presented restaurants, we were looked after extremely well and our every whim was attended to.
No tables were close to each other, around the pool and especially the beach, you were not crammed in, had loads of room and again personal service (always with a smile and always on first name terms).
The spa is lovely, we only had the buffett dinner twice, but on both occasions it had a different theme, and was very well done and very varied with some local delicacies (if you want chicken and chips, this is not the buffett for you).
The wine is expensive unless you have local, but this is true of any bar or hotel in Sharm. This is a hotel with choice, space and a little exclusivity, if you want Karoke or disco's or cheap all inclusive this will not be the hotel for you.
We were offered late check out of our room, and (as requested) were given an updated inroom bill every day.
The hotel offers limos for all guests which are cheaper than the taxis, very clean and will always pick you up from your destination and return you to your hotel, at any time.
Having stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world and travelled (on occasion) first class, I can with all honesty say, we had a lovely stay at the Ritz, and the service was impeccable. NO its not the four seasons (but then it didn't cost as much), but it is also not a run of the mill 5 star all inclusive, and therefore is not packed, overrun, noisy or impersonal.
