We were a little hesitant booking the Al Maha as it is isn't cheap, but overall it was good value. It really is an oasis within Dubai. The whole ambience is quite relaxed and not at all formal, with the essence being relaxation and at your own pace. If you don't fancy an activity, then don't do it. There isn't really a lot to see in the desert that isn't already in the grounds, (oryx etc), but the sun-downer camel ride and the falconery are good.
The best part is obviously the room and pool. The pool is actually more than a plunge pool and is a fair size. It is completely private with the only interlopers being the oryx or gazelles.
I wasn't too sure about the food, but it was excellent, especially the barbecue. The only meal not quite on the button was probably the Sri Lankan curry.
We stayed here for 3 nights only but could have stayed longer. We could easily have flown straight home and still considered that we'd had a good break, it was that peaceful and relaxing.
We would hope to return one day.
