Stayed here for 2 nights at at the start of my holiday and another 2 nights at the end. It was part of a Singapore Stopover deal offered by Singapore airlines. Found the hotel to be ideal as a base to explore Singapore, it's probably not as fancy as some but as we spent so little time there it really didn't matter.
Our room was a good size, clean and comfy. We had breakfast in the hotel our first morning as we got a 50% discount but the selection wasn't very good, so we didn't eat there again.
The hotel is just round the corner from Raffles who do a great breakfast deal of fruit juice, choice of pastry and tea or coffee for S$7 in their cafe. Another alternative is the Dome cafe which is just down the road from the hotel.
If you like walking you can easily walk to Clarke Quay and Orchard Road from the hotel.
The staff were very friendly especially Mervyn the chief concierge who helped organise our duck tour which was part of the Singapore stopover package and even arranged for us to be picked up. One of the tour desk guys was a bit pushy and tried to sell us tours, but we did our own thing.

Stayed for one night as part of Singapore Ailines package. Centrally located and very friendly staff ready to assist.
Facilities were as expected but the bed a little too firm for our liking. Shops, tours and transport readily available and inexpensive. We would stay here again.

This is the third time over the past 10 years we have stayed here, and although not particularly fancy, I think it is pretty reasonable for the money compared to most hotels, hence the above average rating because of value for money. That aside it is probably a middle of the road property.

Pretty good location, and have never had any problems with the staff, cleanliness of rooms etc.

Only continuing problem is the strip of marble on the floor separating the main room with the bathroom. It is quite high and is a real killer on the toes if you are not careful !

If we go back to Singapore we will stay here again as long as the Singapore Stopover continues to be a good deal.

I stayed at The Allson for 3 nights last week on a trip to the Far East. My first encounter was with the lady on the front desk.

It was 9.30 p.m when we arrived at the hotel and I just wanted to go to my room as I had two small children in tow. When I first booked the holiday I had requested a room on a non smoking floor as I did not want my children to be exposed to a smokey environment. I checked with the agent 2 weeks before to ensure my request would be met. I was assured that the hotel were fully aware of my request.

After a lengthy check in I was handed the keys to a smoking room on a smoking floor. The receptionist was very rude and told me that I would have to wait if I now wanted a non smoking room. I explained that I had informed them previously and she denied this. I insisted on looking at the booking details and in clear block capitals was written my request. There was no apology whatsoever from the receptionist.

11 floors later we arrive at our non smoking room. The electronic key card she has given us does not work.

As someone recently reported, the front desk are incompetent. I didn't even find them to be polite which is rare in the Far East.

I don't know how much the hotel costs to book but I can't think that it would be much. The rooms are an average 3 star quality. The bathroom was very small but ok. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. I would stay elsewhere in Singapore even though the location was excellent.
