“Extremely overrated! Don't be fooled”

My Partner and I stayed here in late September 08. I truly can't understand the raving, salivating and gushing reviews on here.

Friends of ours from Australia stayed here and also rave about it so we thought we would give it a go after we got caught up in a typhoon and could not get out of Hong Kong.

We booked over wotif.com from the airport and arrived 1 hour later only to find they did't have our booking yet. The check-in girl in true Hong Kong style was rather aloof. I opened my laptop to show her the email that I recieved confirming the booking had been paid for however, this did not satisfy her. Rather than allowing me to come behind the counter and forward the email from my web mail with all the booking details and payment confirmation to the hotel, she made me wait some time for a user name and password from the internal office wif-fi system in the hotel so then I could forward the emial to their booking system. Then after she was satisfied that it was a legitimate booking, she then proceeded to fluff around for a long time before she took any details or allocated us a room. There was all manner of talking, phone calls, posing and posturing with others rather than paying attention to a customer - now correct me if I am wrong but aren't they in the hospitality business?

Finally after a good 15-20 minutes we got our room. We arrived at our room and opened the door only to find we had been given a pokey substandard room that we didn't pay for with smelling carpet and a rundown cobbled together bathroom - just foul. We went back downstairs and asked for the room we actually paid for and after much fluffing around we were given a new room.

Only after some time we realised we had been given a limited mobility room........rather than moving again we decided to stay in it even though it was VERY questionable behaviour by the check-in staff to do this!

We found the restaurant staff to be very rude, food way over priced and BE CAREFUL you do not order a freshly squeezed juice....this will cost 100HK or 17 AUD for a crummy glass of juice! My partner was sick and didn't order food and the waitress got irritated by it, she then proceeded to up-sell me on bread, dips, chips, drinks and anything else that could turn a $$ in lieu of my partner not ordering anything - do they have a minimum seat quota???

The check-out process was another story indeed, the check-out lady seemed more interested in talking to others than helping us get checked out and to the airport to the point we had to step in and get her to focus on our check-out and stop talking to a colleague about something frivolous - something I have NEVER had to do in my life and I stay in plenty of hotels believe me!

The Langham promotes itself as the most modern of hotels in Hong Kong but it doesn't even have free in-room wi-fi. All five star hotels that I have stayed in in Asia, have free in room wi-fi so I hardly think the Langham can promote itself as the "latest and greatest" all in all, VERY ordinary, VERY over priced and VERY misleading a 3.5 star at best!!! The bells and whistles don't account for or compensate for below average service and facilities - don't be fooled! Spend your money elsewhere for a better experience!

“Personal touch Hi-Tech Hotel”

A hotel that perfectly blends luxury and technology, from the moment reservations are made online to the I-Pod enabled music players in the room.

CHECK IN

Will cost you approximately HKD250-300 to get from the airport to the hotel. We checked into the hotel in the evening. Personally, I felt it was the longest check-in I have ever encountered even though the reception staff was really very fast. We took a total of 2 rooms for 6 people and they recorded the information of all 6 people.

THE HOTEL

Free internet (PC and Mac) is available on the 5th floor. A special PC is dedicated for online airline check-in so you can print out your boarding passes. Forgot to mention, if you made your reservation online, a special pre-arrival promotion is sent to you for Chuan Spa reservations and you are able to get discounts on treatments.

Level 41 is where you get access to Chuan Spa, the roof top swimming pool (hot Jacuzzi as well) and 24 hour gym. The changing rooms have sauna, steam rooms and hot baths. You only need to bring yourself and a change of clothes. Everything else is provided (from towels to mouth wash).

The hotel also provides a daily tour to the Mongkok night markets. Make reservations early. Tour starts at 6 p.m. daily.

SPECIAL TOUCH: Remember I said that the check in took a very long time. As they had taken every one’s particulars, a complementary Birthday cake was sent to the room as it was my husband’s birthday on one of the nights there. This was a very thoughtful gesture and truly appreciated.

THE ROOM

Whatever you see on the website, is what you will get. The room is not very big but space is carefully optimized. Wi-Fi & broadband is available at a price, Internet TV is also an option so a remote keyboard is available in the room. Movies on demand are provided at a price but a DVD player is provided if you have your own movies with you. A complimentary mouse-pad is given with the stationery from the Hotel.

The view from the room is awesome. With 3 rooms booked, the view of the Harbour is obviously the best. The view of Langham Mall is pretty since the Mall is half made with glass anyway, so at night it is a pretty sight.

You can also request for special pillows from their pillow menu. An umbrella is provided in the room and a safe with in-safe charging. Turn down service is available every night and whenever required, a change of towels. Special mention is the kettle and coffee maker. No complains about the bed and pillows as you will get a very comfortable sleep.

Bring your I-pod and note that the player does not work with I-phone!

THE LOCATION

As this hotel is located in Mongkok, this is positively the busiest place in Kowloon. Situated right next to Langham Mall, the hotel is connected at the lobby level. The mall is very big and caters for the young. In the evenings at street level, be prepared to be swarmed by the crowd. Children below waist height should be carried because of the sheer number of people. Smaller children run the risks of getting elbowed or knocked by bags if not carried. Nearby you can walk to the Ladies Market, Temple street market and take a nice long stroll towards Tsim Sha Tsui, along Nathan Road.

DINING

If you plan on dining in, especially at the Chinese restaurant, make reservations in advance. We had dinner at the seafood bar on the 5th floor where you can order from the bar menu or the menu from the café downstairs. The food is standard fare but the atmosphere is nice. The concierge is very helpful if you need to make reservations at other establishments.

TRANSPORT

Very easy to get around from this hotel, either use the MTR which is located below the Mall or easily get a taxi at the hotel's entrance. The bell boys will easily get a taxi for you.

CHECK OUT

Very fast.

VERDICT

Good hotel. No doubt about it.

This was the best hotel I could have chosed for our Hong KOng stay. The don't get a 5 star rating for nothing, the service and staff are fabulous, the room is comfortable and clean and eventhough there is no harbour view, the view of Hong Kong from our window is jawdropping. Our suite was the best. Club L was convenient and comfortable and there for our use whenever we wanted. Wines, spirits, beers, juices coffee, snacks both savoury and sweet were available anytime and always fresh and varied. Pure luxury.

The breakfast was a huge selection of whatever you want including on the spot egg making chef, they attend to you as if you're the only one in the restaurant without being overbearing.

The swimming pool is heaven and this hotel was our refuge in busy Mongkok. I would definitely recommend this hotel for 5 star comfort and convencience.

“Reserve with confidence”

Previous writers have rated this hotel highly and I am simply adding my fulsome praise. We stayed for a week in September 2008. It is rare to enjoy such hospitality and attention to detail in a modern hotel. Location is convenient, interesting and well connected by taxi and public transport. Rooms finished and equipped to a high standard. Staff, whether concierge, restaurant, check in, spa, pool or Club lounge (well worth paying extra) were efficient, friendly and helpful. To be frequently greeted by name and a smile is commendable. Other H-K hotels, while often excellent feel 'stuffy' in comparison. Slightly larger room would have been nice but the hotel lacked for nothing. Probably the best city hotel experience I have ever enjoyed.

“Ideal Location + Excellent Facilities”

My wife and I stayed at the Langham Place Mongkok (LPM) in late August this year.

As for location, the best way to get around Hong Kong / Kowloon is by the MTR (which is the local underground subway system). Thankfully the LPM is adjoined to a massive 13 level shopping complex which had the MTR station at the bottom.

at the shopping complex you could shop, get groceries/food and even eat at one of the restaurants.

The Buffet at the LPM is a little pricey but have basically everything a buffet would expect.

The rooms were serviced daily and turned down daily, and the rooms were extremely spacious with modern facilities.

We also went to Shenzhen in China for shopping and the train station to get to Shenzhen is a 10 minute walk up the road. So you cant fault the location.

Forget about taxi's as the traffic is mayhem, so get the MTR.

The staff were very accommodating and cant fault this hotel for the price... was a great choice all in all. For the tourist the ease to transport as well as access to food/shops etc was perfect for us especially in the heat... the last thing you want to be doing is walking outside when you dont need to.

Overall, i cant fault this hotel as it was the best in terms of modernity, cleanliness, quality and location.
