“A wonderful Sanctuary”

We stayed at The Banyan Tree for two nights in late February. The hotel is beautiful and the staff was excellent. Our room was a basic suite on the 48th floor which overlooked the river. The room was beautifully decorated and came with an incense burner which made the place smell wonderful. The bed was big and very comfortable and the couch area made a nice place for cocktails(from the well stocked minibar) and for city viewing. This place was a sanctuary in the middle of a big bustling, noisy city. I wish we could have stayed longer. The spa is beautiful and the massages are excellent. I got both the lomi lomi and the balinese. The pool area sits high above the city and is nicely tended and decorated. The vertigo bar is a must do for the view. I can't say enough about the breakfast bar. There is so much food(American, European and Asian) and there are chefs who cook omelets to order. You also don't want to miss the fresh gourmet pastries. The hotel sits in a central local not a far taxi ride from anywhere. It is also a short walk to the Lumpini night market.

“This grand old dame is starting to look tired and dated.”

Was really looking forward to staying in this hotel as i have heard many good things about the Banyan Tree chain, but sadly this all suite hotel didnt quite live up to the hype. Firstly, the good points, the location was good, you got plently of squared metres for your baht, the breakfast room was stunning with its double height floor to ceiling window overlooking a wildlife packed waterfall and there were some nice touches from house keeping such as the daily burning jossticks, which sent pleasant aromas wafting round the suite. The negatives however were that although you got a suite as opposed to just a bedroom, the whole thing was dark and dated. The bathroom was nothing special and neither were the thai inspired furnishings. In short there are far better places to stay in Bangkok for your Baht. Try the Peninsula or the Conrad.

    • Disliked — Sadly the rooms were dark, dated and in need of renovation

“Fantastic”

Fantastic Hotel with amazing Vertigo restaurant as well as a great selection of others and an amazing spa and swimming pool. If you go to this hotel you have to book for the roof top restuarant which gives you superb views over the city of bangok. The Hotel is clean and modern the food was excellent as is the service. The only complaint that I have is that the decor of the rooms is a little tired now and could do with updating. However all the pubic areas in the hotel are beautiful and tranquil. I would definatley go back to the hotel again on my next visit.

“tired and dated”

Banyan Tree Bangkok

3 of 5 stars
Dublin, Ireland
Feb 9, 2008

stayed here for 2 nights in january with the intention of staying a further 4 if things worked out alright. Two nights was more than enough. Dont be fooled by the marketing as an "all suite" hotel. Its a tiny suite, both bedroom/living room no bigger than a standard room in a comparable hotel. I just found the whole experience disappointing. The televisions where not old, but very very old. It is not good value for money when compared to the sukhothai next door, or indeed the heritage suite in the Dusit Thani, or krungthep wing in the shangra-la, all in and around the same price if you shop around.

However, one thing that it does have which is excellent, and thats the spa. Its a fantastic facility as are the therapists. The spa is vibrant and refreshing and good value for money. The hotel, sadly, is tired and dated and not worth the cost considering what you can get elswhere in Bangkok for the same price

“Underwhelmed”

Expectations of a Banyan Tree Hotel is one of space and exotic interiors. This ex-office block failed to live upto our expectations we have stayed in many top hotels in Bangkok and will not return to the Banyan Tree.
The pool is minute and an after thought the steam room and sauna was a plastic cabinet tucked under the stairs.I had to pinch myhself to believe I was in a Banyan Tree place.
Room very tired and bland , breakfast buffet disappointing. Can none make a decent omlette or scrambled eggs?Hot water arrived luke warm.
Reception cooly efficient welcome drink undrinkable sweet and sickly.
