Just spent time in Belize, staying in Belize City and Caye Caulker. Vitalino Reyes was recommended by others to me and was responsible for a truly memorable series of adventures. First, he took four of us (all women) to Altun Ha where he was able to give us a fascinating history of the ruin and the Mayans in general. He was obviously very well informed and understood the context of the Mayan beliefs better than anyone I have ever heard before. My interest in the Mayan calendar and spiritual beliefs is permanently peaked now. Another tour guide at Lamanai was very informative but pretty academic. Vitalino had passion and made the Mayans seem like people just like us, not just historical figures. And then to the zipline! He was amazingly accommodating to our group, clearly making changes to his schedule on the fly to keep us happy. He also showed us how to entice a tarantula and how safe it is to actually hold one! A few days later I contacted him to see if he could take me and my 23 year old son on some adventures and he was completely open to serving us. He took us to the zip line again and then on the most fun adventure I have had in a long time, cave tubing. He clearly knows his stuff, since he is apparently the pioneer in this sport; he made it highly entertaining, informative and exciting. I felt completely safe and he has a great sense of humor. He then took us for the best meal I had the whole time I was in Belize. Not to mention the rum punch he offered us afterward! He then arranged for us to go to Lamanai in the company of one of his tour guides the next day and I was again impressed with how he managed to work out whatever we wanted to do on our time schedule. Vitalino is passionate about his Belize, knows seemingly everything about flora, trees, birds, creepy creatures, history and geology. He is funny and very respectful. A true joy to have spent time with. He can be reached at 501-602-8975 or info@cavetubing.bz. You won't regret it!
