“I can't wait to stay again!”

TownePlace Suites Anaheim

4 of 5 stars
San Francisco
Feb 20, 2008

Conveniently located near the Interstate, several gas stations within two blocks; exceptionally clean and quiet; very friendly staff. No stale smoke smell, no mildew, good plumbing, easy to open windows, clean fresh carpets (they looked rather new, actually) and easy to climb stairs.

We called to confirm our late arrival, and true to their word, our 2 room suite was still waiting for us, overlooking the the Angels' Stadium just across the street. Starbuck's, Denny's, several fast food joints and a few nice restaurants were a stone's throw away, and Albertson's was just a mile down the road. In short, after a 7 hour drive, we were able to buy necessities, feed everyone, and get to bed without a lot of drama.

When we first arrived the room was cold. The heater/AC unit was manual - there was one unit in the living room and each bedroom. It smelled a bit when we first turned it on, but within ten minutes the smell wore off and each room was more than toasty. We turned off the heaters and never had to turn them on again - the place stayed nice and cozy. What a delight.

The bathroom was divided by a door into two rooms off the living room - the washroom with sink and plenty of towels and a mirror behind the door, and the shower/toilet room with even more towels and a really nice shower head.

The kitchen was small but adequate and user friendly, with plenty of cabinet space, dishes and silverware, a large fridge, an electric stove, microwave and dishwasher. It overlooked the living room, divided by a half wall, with a desk, a couch and a modest coffee table.

There was a TV in the common room and in both bedrooms so everyone could watch what they wanted. The second bedroom was small - just enough room for a bed, a dresser, a nightstand and a small closet. The main bedroom however was much roomier, with a large closet, dresser, nightstands and a desk. The beds were somewhat firm with lots of pillows and a soft top, so we all felt like we were snuggled in clouds.

Best of all the main lobby was kept very clean and fully stocked with complimentary hot coffee (including decaf), tea, sugar and all the fixings 24/7. There were free magazines and newspapers I actually wanted to read, two complimentary high speed computer stations and a printer.

There were neighbors with pets, and neighbors with kids, just down the hall - but we never heard a peep; and since our room was away from the railroad tracks, we didn't hear anything from outside either.

Disneyland was only 5 minutes down the block - away from the traffic and the crowds, but close enough to visit without hassle.

Checkout? It took all of 30 seconds, in person, at the lobby counter. I can't say enough about this property. We will definitely visit again.

“Perfect for a Large Family Getaway!”

Wow! Where to begin? This is just what I needed for my extended family of twelve to visit the Disney Resort for the holidays! We each split up into three, 2-bedroom suites so each couple had their own room. The 2-bedrooom suites also have a living room and separate kitchen as well with all the ammenities.

The free shuttle to Disney pulled into the parking lot every 30 minutes in the morning, like clockwork. Each day it was a full-sized motorcoach. There was only one other stop nearby. We were generally at the park within 15 minutes. On the way back to the hotel, we were always the first stop and there in ten minutes.

The only problem was an odor of BO on one of the mattresses in our room. It was late when we discovered it so we substituted the sheets for the hide-a-bed we found in the closet. We think someone rested on top of the bed and the housekeeping staff didn't know the linens had been used.

The noise from the adjacent rail commuter line began about 7am each morning and lasted until aroun 11pm. In general, it wasn't bothersome.

The pool was small but was a nice break for the kids after five full days at the resort. There are two free computers in the lobby to check your email and print boarding passes. The staff was very friendly and definitely are a major reason for the hotel's high ranking.

“Totally What We Needed!”

We needed a place where our family of 10 could stay that offered convenient access to all freeways to attend So. Cal. family get-togethers in various locations, as well as to Disneyland without the high cost of a room at the Disneyland Hotel. We had a 2-bedroom suite and an adjacent 1-bedroom suite (a request graciously accommodated by staff!) that were very comfortable and suitably furnished. We were even able to fix our traditional Eggs Benedict breakfast! (We simply brought our own egg pan and blender for the Hollandaise.) Staff provided extra blankets upon request, directions to local shopping and restaurants, and were always very pleasant. We had wonderful meals at The Lazy Dog and Katella Grill restaurants, as well as at Denny's across the parking lot - what seemed to be the only place open on Christmas! There was ample parking and the property was very well maintained and nicely decorated. We were extremely pleased with the shuttle service to Disneyland. If we had to make one recommendation for improvement, it would be to add more wastebaskets - there was one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen - not always accessible, and with a group as large as ours, sometimes full. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this property. In fact, I chose this hotel based on the Travelocity reviews I read prior to booking our stay!

“Good Value”

As a family with a 4 years old toddler, suite hotels are our preferred choices, since having a kitchen and refrigerator makes meal arrangement much simpler - we don't have to plan for breakfast in the morning or worry about kid getting hungry at night.

For the location, it's about 2 miles drive to Disneyland. This is not a problem since we rented a car and the hotel offers free parking. The Disneyland daily parking is $11 and you can go in and out of the lot, they also have free shuttles from the parking lot to the park. We've also considered other hotels that claimed to be within walking distance, but it's not that important for us. After a whole day in Disneyland, I suspect a lot of hotels that are within walking distance in the morning becomes much less so at night :)

This is the first time we stay in hotels near Disneyland, so we have no other hotels to compare with. Because I'm a Marriott Reward member and usually stay in other Marriott hotels, I can only compare this TownePlace Suite with other Marriotts I stayed at. Here are our impressions:

The premise is well-kept and clean. Everything in the suite seems quite new. Even the shower curtain rod is a recently patented model that can prevent draft to blow in the shower curtain (not that this is a big deal, but it shows the operator's attention to details). The size of the suite is about 400 square feet, we have a queen size bed and a pull-out sofa bed for the toddler. At $120 a night, this is a great deal. Originally we were trying to book a Residence Inn (which is $180 a night and usually offers bigger suite and better facilities), but it was fully booked and we found the TownePlace Suite quite comparable to other Residence Inns we stayed at in Bay Area.

Our room is facing the major road (State College Blvd) but the noise level is surprisingly low. The blvd doesn't have much traffic and is almost deserted at night. The windows are double-paned so the only sound you hear is the AC, which can be quite loud.

“very good - can recommend it”

We spent 3 nights here to meet my daughter and go to Disneyland for her birthday. Very nice - but be very sure you ask for a quiet room (away from the railroad tracks) which are behind the property. We had a (sr discount) studio which was fine. Bed very comfortable - could have used a few more dishes/silverware but full size fridge, micro, stovetop, etc.
Plenty of space.
My daugher stayed 2 nights in a one bedroom - also very adequate. A little more spacious but for the difference in price was glad we took the studio. Still reasonable. First night they had trouble sleeping because of trains - so moved to another room.
About 2 miles from Disney but they had buses for transportation (except during lunch and dinner hours) We elected to drive and park ($11) but could be flexible to come back to the hotel during the day for lunch and nap as stayed from 8am to midnight.
Second night my daughter and husband moved to a quieter room and then all was ok. There are several nice restaurants you can walk to including a nice Mexican place, where we enjoyed a great dinner our first evening. Also several other reasonable places.
It is easy to find, right across from the Angel's stadium and a newer, other nice restaurants in a mall nearby, including Italian.
Might have wanted to be closer to disneyland but they were more expensive and area more crowded. Can recommend. Good for families too. Nice pool
Wish they had offered breakfast as many Marriotts do.
