“Great stay but many odd little things”

Extended StayAmerica Anaheim Convention Center

2 of 5 stars
Seattle, Washington
Jul 8, 2008

I was a little wary given previous reviews, but our stay here was good. I'd already been 4 nights in a conference hotel and now was ready to play at Disneyland for 4 nights. Typical of ESA, you pay extra for daily room service (which we never used) but you can take towels down to the front desk for exchange (which we did towards the end of our stay). We didn't use the pool but it did not look at all inviting (small, shallow pool behind locked fence in the middle of the parking lot). The public areas (lobby/laundry/vending) were very clean. We had several interactions with the staff (asking for drinking glasses, replacing coffee machine, non-working key) and the reception staff were various degrees of friendliness and ability, but all interactions were appropriate.

Typical of ESA, there's a kitchenette (sink, microwave, two burner stove,full-size refrigerator) and a minimal amount of kitchenware and utensils. Also typical of ESA, the bed was SMALL and hard and we ended up taking turns sleeping on the lazy-boy recliner (this was the worst aspect of our stay). Also, the toilet had one of those turbo-charged flushes, so very hard to push down the handle and the flush was REALLY loud. Air conditioning was very effective (although a little noisy). Room was very clean, the furnishings were a little worn, but not terribly so and with two tables (in addition to a nightstand and a dresser) quite a bit of space to spread stuff out. In room wireless was only $5 for the entire stay and was generally reliable (you had to re-register every day, but no additional charges).

For priceline bid of $33/night, this was a great deal (especially considering pretty much all we did in the room was sleep as we were at Disneyland most of our waking moments). It's right around the corner from Garden Walk so plenty of shopping and dining close by. About a 4-block walk to DL front gate (which can be really long after a full-day at the park) so I'm glad we had a car.

“Was the pitts!”

Extended StayAmerica Anaheim Convention Center

Apr 26, 2008

We got a killer deal on hotwire.com, and we've stayed there before, really with no problems, but this time it was different. At check in the lady at the desk, was rude and acted as if we were bothering her. Tried asking her questions, she just looked at us, and kept on what she was doing. The room was not clean, the carpet was nasty, the bed was very uncomfortable and the sheets/blankets were stained. They gave us a handicap room with a huge bathroom door that didn't stay open and had a horrible sqeak to it, we have one coffee cup and one spoon it was crazy. We would not go back again.

“Overbooking Nightmare”

Extended StayAmerica Anaheim Convention Center

1 of 5 stars
Simi Valley, California
Jan 4, 2008

We were booked via the internet in advance to stay at the Anaheim property New Year's Eve. We got a phone call while visiting Disneyland late that afternoon that the hotel overbooked and we were being placed at the Orange location. We had originally decided to leave Disneyland early, check into our hotel, get some dinner, then use the hotel's shuttle to go back. The hotel in Orange didn't have a shuttle and we didn't know where we were going. It all became inconvenient. We stayed at Disneyland until they closed and found our hotel in Orange afterwards at 2AM. We were in a room on the fourth floor. When we got to the fourth floor there wasn't a room with our room number on it. We deducted it was the room without the room number there anymore, the placard was missing.
But our hotel key didn't work. By now it is 3AM and we have to get the manager to let us in. He had to use his master key because ours wasn't working and there wasn't another one. This meant we couldn't leave the room at the same time or else we would be locked out. No problem, we just wanted to go to sleep anyway. All you could smell in the room was food that had been previously cooked in the microwave. The sofa bed's mattress was missing and the sofa sunk into the ground. The recliner chair had stains on it and on the arm chair covers. The blanket on the bed was literally falling apart. The mold in the sink in the bathroom was the most disgusting of all. We had a feeling this hotel was booked to capacity as well and this room was not meant to be reserved. We just got stuck there at the last minute.
Extended Stay did pay for our night's stay, however, which is the only positive of this experience. We were curious how many other guests got bumped that night. This was our first experience with an Extended Stay and I think we will stick with other hotel chains in the future.
