“Home away from home!!”

Holiday Inn Anaheim

5 of 5 stars
Melbourne,Australia
May 18, 2008

Holiday Inn Anaheim was the first place we stayed when visiting the states and also the last on the way home!!.. we called it our home away from home.. it was in what seemed a safe neighbourhood.. all the staff were friendly and the rooms were great!!.. We made some good friends in Anaheim and the hotel just topped it all off for us!! it also has a great shuttle service to Disneyland so getting around was never an issue... we would definitley go back..

This hotel is within easy walking distance to Disneyland. So close that we didn't use the available shuttle during our stay. The beds are very comfortable. Our room was clean and well furnished. Since the hotel does not back up to I-5 like many in the area It's quiet also. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay at this hotel again.

“Not perfect, but made for a nice Disney trip”

I have to disagree with the previous review about Hotwire rates being a rip-off. Rates with the anaheim hotels (especially the Good Neighbor Hotels which this is one of) are season- higher at times and lower at others. I have seen peak rates for non discounted rooms at 120+ a night for this property.

There are basic rooms and there are "suites". We contemplated upgrading to a "suite"- I called the hotel after pricing around and they said we could upgrade for $60 a night (an actual cost of $120 a night, which was a $40 break of the price at the time). Bottomline, we paid $56 a night via priceline- and that was a *fabulous* rate. In fact, overall it was a terrific value.

We were put in the back of the property- didn't bother me- it actually allowed us good parking spots and easy access to the door in and elevator up. And- easy access to walk outside and sit and watch the fireworks from the hotel! It was a nice plus.

The service at the front desk was very 'so-so'. The clerk was veeeery slow checking us in. My parents had left a suitcase for us at the hotel and it took them 15 minutes to figure out how to get it for us, and despite a lot of baggage no one offered to get a cart for us. A little help and faster service would have been great considered we were hauling in with 2 2yr old and a 7 year old and had driven from the San Fran. area. Not only that when we got to the room neither of the keys worked- it took THREE attempts to get IN the room. That was the only glitch the entire time though.

Noise Caution- if you or someone in your group is very sensitive to noise you should probably ask to be given a central room in the hotel and on the side not facing the parking structure. Like clockwork with the fireworks- the Disneyland parking garage goes "off" (all the car alarms) for a good 30 mins. It was slightly annoying, but we didn't have folks who had to go to bed early. But if that would be a problem for you, take that into consideration.

We ordered room service once, it wasn't exceptionally over priced, just standard, and the food amounts were decent.

The room itself was very roomy and comfy. Others have said they not- I question that. The previous year we stayed in a standard Dland Hotel room- those have NO more ammenities in-room and are about 33% smaller. Comparably, these rooms for 5 people and two child-sized blow up beds fit us very nicely. The room was cleaned- no complaints. It showed a bit of wear and age but nothing that made it unpleasant.

Location- we didn't opt to use ART. I read so many mixed reviews about that option that I didn't pre-purchase the passes. It's a long walk. If you do not want to walk when you are very tired, if you have a lot of stuff, if you don't like walking- -then don't try this option. You cannot cut thru to the Disney Parking Lot (which does have a shuttle) despite the fact it's RIGHT there. The 25 foot wall will stop you =D

Our last (partial) day in the parks we drove over to the parking structure and that was pretty convient. Not a bad option, especially if you have lots of stuff and kids. Mostly, we walked (with a double stroller) and yeah, it takes about 15 - 20 mins to get to the park entrances. You could also walk to downtown Disney and take the monorail. I doubt that would say you time, though it might save your feet a bit.

I would definitely return here- though we like to try different places out, especially for the same price!

“Good location but ...”

... beware of "deals" on Hotwire. I have only used Hotwire once (and prob never again), for this hotel, based largely on the misleading description that I was getting a $149/night hotel room for $69/night. There is NO WAY anyone in their right mind would have paid $149 for the room we had! $69 was fair, but beware Hotwire's misleading (IMHO) rhetoric!

So, back to the room/hotel - the room was your basic hotel room, somewhat cramped but at least the vanity & bathroom had their own space. Housekeeping was fine, no problems there.

We were only in the pool once (the weather was sunny & pleasant, but not really hot) but no complaints there. We ate in the restaurant one night (being so tired from a long day at Disney) and the service was excellent and the food was fine.

No problems with check-in/check-out (but our stay was prepaid via Hotwire, no refunds, no exchanges).

There was a bit of noise occasionally from the hallways, but not really noise from outside (freeways or traffic). We did use the in-house washer & dryer to do a couple loads of laundry before we left for San Diego, one dryer ate our money but wouldn't work but the front desk staff refunded us our "big" dollar the next day.

It was approx a 15 min walk to the entrance of Downtown Disney, from there you can continue to walk to the main gate of Disneyland or California Adventure Park, or you can catch the monorail to Tomorrow Land (but it can be a bit of a wait for the monorail, so it seemed like walking was the best bet - unless your primary destination is Tomorrow Land which includes Finding Nemo).

The hotel was fine - clean & basic, I would have liked a mini fridge in the room but opted for a sytrofoam cooler instead. I was just put off by Hotwire's overblown description. Then I rec'd an e-mail from Hotwire asking for my feedback and I thought "here's my chance" ... but their so-called feedback only allowed me to answer one question: "was there a pool/business ctr/fitness ctr" to which I truthfully answered yes, but you had no opportunity to speak to the quality or quantity of anything, room size included.

“Surprisingly good”

Holiday Inn Anaheim

4 of 5 stars
Southampton

Was a little worried about staying in this hotel but was amazed at how clean etc.

Would recommend to others.

Not too far from Disney via trolley (walking is an option)

Gift shop over priced. Suggest buying in Disney and if you think you might need a memory card for camera, get one before you go to either hotel or Disney land as they both charge extrodinary prices. In short, buy a memory card on-line and save paying 10 times the amount at the resort/hotel.

Pool a little dirty but this might be time used

Resturant and Check in staff were fantastic
