“Great value, centrally located & hard to beat”

Stayed here for three weeks in March '07. Found the hotel to be modern, clean and well run with rooms equiped with all mod cons. The hotel also had complimentry movies, snooker and a great sun roof terrace. The complimentry breakfast was very good quality. The management were very helpful, kind and courteous. The hotel itself is a short stroll from all amenities. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here very much indeed. Great value, centrally located and hard to beat. John & Victoria, Dublin, Ireland.

Had previously booked hotel for daughters first trip to Sydney and they had such a good experience that they stayed again at end of holiday. We were on an overnight up from Tasmania to get the return flights back to UK. Reception very helpful on arrival.
Room on the small size but adequate and clean. Traffic noise negligable but did experience some late night noise from adjacant housing (however this was first night of Easter break so people enjoying themselves!). Compimentary breakfast good and nice to sit outside on sunny balcony. Checkout good - able to store bags all day as flight very late afternoon. Given use of bathroom to freshen up before shuttle bus arrived. Will stay again.
Recommended pub 20 seconds around corner - good food and from balcony nice to watch fruit bats gliding silently up road opposite. Harrys cafe de wheels only 1 minute walk for extra late night pie snack. 20 minutes stroll through Botanic Gardens gets you to the must see view of opera house and bridge but look for the fruit bat colony on the way!
Only downside, if sutch, would like hotel to have own website to book direct.

We had never been to Woolloomooloo side of Sydney, so thought we would sample a different area. We got a very reasonable rate with Wotif (3 day special) In fact we added to our time at Mariners Court by a couple of nights, we just had to move rooms & so we had the chance to sample 2 rooms. The rooms were spacious enough for us, beds comfy, decor lovely. Each had a small open balcony but we didnt use them. The rooms had fridge, kettle, tv (one had a dvd player) lots of milk & tea/coffee. Had free movies too. The complimentary breakfast was great, in fact because we arrived a bit early they offered us breakfast on the day we arrived. It had fruit, yoghurts, different coffees, toasts, cereals etc. Really relaxed atmosphere with lovely music accompanying the breakfast & complimentary papers. There was also a large open balcony to sit in the sun with your breakfast - heaven. We used the large games room on the day we were leaving to watch movies & chill, because our checkout was 10, but we werent being picked up for a couple of hours. The area was fine for us, just one minute walk to the wharf road, round the corner from a chilled pub & only another mini stroll to lots of cosmopolitan bars & restaurants. The walk through the botanic gardens to CBD was gorgeous (approx 15-20mins or about 7 bucks in a cab) & we always got a paper & a sandwich to enjoy on the grass watching the quay views before we hit the opera house crowds. I think some of the comments I read on this site did not reflect the stay that I & my husband enjoyed. Maybe things have all changed since others stayed in 05, I personally would recommend this lovely place to anyone.

“Watch Out!”

Booked after seeing attractive photos. Main problem with hotel is its location. Do not stay here is you want to use public transport. The short walk to Kings Cross Station is scary and we were stopped by police and told that it was an area that should not be walked through as it is a common area for assault and theft. This was IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY... We had to catch taxis at night because we were not willing to walk through the area at night...

Rooms are small but clean. Bathroom had got to the stage where it can't be cleaned anymore, the dirt is stuck in the cracks in the tiles.

Very noisy and unsavoury area at night... balcony looked onto the next apartment block which was 1 metre from the window...

For a similar or better price accomodation can be found in a much better safer area and actually in the city... Don't be fooled by hotel managements sale line that the hotel is out of the unsavoury area and that we walked through the wrong way...

We left the hotel very unhappy and unable to get a refund after being told not to walk around the hotel at night which severely inconvenienced our plans...

I respond to the "Watch Out" comments posted 24 July 2006.
Location Comments. Whilst Kings Cross ,Potts Point and Woolloomooloo have many areas that could be classified as unsafe at certain times, this would also be applicable to major tourist attractions such as Darling Harbour, the Rocks and parts of George Street and China town. Our Hotel is 200 metres from Fingers Wharf home to The Blue (ex"w") Hotel (a world top 10), John Laws, Russell Crowe and numerous celebrities who classify this area home and I assume feel safe.. The main transport nearest to us is the 311 Bus which covers Circular Quay and Central staion on a regular basis. This is 100 metres away on Cowper Wharf Rd . The 1 kilometer walk to Kings Cross station is uphill and not reccommended by Hotel Staff due to the grade and distance. The walk to the CBD is reccommended, 10 mins to CBD through the Domain or Botanical Gardens.
The Bathrooms are kept clean but we acknowleded the age (16 years ) of the mosaic tiles. We are currently upgrading in this area. to support our 3.5 +AAA rating.
We are concerned with the criticism that "the balcony looked onto the next Apartment Block which was i1metre from the window"
With respect to the writer the closest that any balcony in the building, that looks onto an Apartment block would be 10 metres. The Hotel has won an Architectural Best Housing Award for Simmich and Partners, Architects in 1990, for the planning, style, layout and the general ambience of balconies/ privacy/ courtyards and outlook .

This is our 3rd time staying at Mariners Court and everytime we have been very happy. The hotel has a warm inviting feel, not the cold, sameness of some hotels, with friendly helpful management who know the area well. The breakfast is set out in an area on the 1st floor with a couryard that lets in the morning sun. A great place to start the day, read the papers, talk to other guests. The rooms are not modern, but very comfortable and clean and have all you want, TV ensuite etc. The hotel is also very close to most of the attractions, such as the Opera House, Art Gallery. We have already booked our return visit and certainly recommend to others.
