“Loved it!”

Hotel Limonaia

We returned from Limone on Saturday after our weeks stay and we loved every minute of it. When we read the reviews after we had booked, we didnt know what to expect, but we knew it was only 3 star accomodation, so didnt expect too much.

In our opinion the bad reviews by people about this hotel are by people that are just too picky. Our room was basic but nice and clean, the food was good and all the staff were always friendly and polite.

The food was what we expected and although was only pasta, the quality was amazing as you would expect in Italy. There was always a good choice of thier version of an english breakfast, fruit, cereal, yoghurts, cheeses and hams, so plenty to choice, and I am very fussy. Same for the evening meal, if you didnt want pasta or pizza then there was meat and salad or potatoes and lots of choice for pudding. We went in Low season but towards the end of the week when more guests arrived, we realised if you want more choice then go to breakfast/dinner at the opening time as it gets busy. If your self catering there is a pizzeria on the groundfloor of the hotel.

There was a keyboard player in the lounge/bar area a few times a week and he isnt great, but tries his best and made us laugh and kept us entertained.

In the Low season the centre of Limone was really quiet in the evening so we decided to stay in the Hotel, but i think it would get nice and lively-ish in the middle of may. All the food was really nice but even though we was half board we ate out in Limone a few times and never had any complaints about the food or the price. If you go on trips into venice however you will realise the cost of food/drink will escalate.

It is only 7 euros each with a discount card to go to Malcesine on the boat and it is well worth it, its a lovely town, lots of winding alleys and shops, and cafes. The hot chocolate and cakes are amazing!

I went with my boyfriend and we are both in Mid 20s and the only thing that we found was that the hill from Limone to the Hotel is a killer, very steep. You have to take deep breaths and have a few pit stops along the way, but the views are worth it. Watch the roads and turn left , then right down the hill across the road into the town, dont go right under the tunnels as the italians are not pedestrian friendly, and the tunnels are dangeous.

If you book this hotel go with an open mind as it is a little dated and rustic, but exactly what i expected in the mountains and would highly reccomend it. There is other hotels lower down the hill and closer to Limone, but they dont benefit from the view/charm that this hotel has.

“Mixed bag”

Hotel Limonaia

3 of 5 stars
North East England

I can understand the mixed reviews for this hotel.

On the plus side, it does have fantastic views, especially from the restaurants and bars. Our room was large with a dining table, and a generous balcony also with views onto the lake; it had a safe, all the usual en-suite facilities, a flat screen TV, etc. There's ample car parking (and even the car parks have fantastic views!). There was a good choice at breakfast

However, everything about the hotel felt a bit 'cheap'. The room had everything you need but it didn't feel like a quality room - the TV picture was almost un-watchable, the bench seats with the table were hard and uncomfortable, some bathroom fittings were loose. The views would be much better if the trees were pruned back considerably and the grounds tidied up. The breakfast was bland and there was no feeling of personal service - some staff were friendly, some a bit off-hand. The reception area was a bit '1970s' and the reception staff OK but not impressive - most visitors seem to come on coach tours, our Expedia booking had them flummoxed for a while. The car parking is on an incredibly steep hill and the cars are packed in very tight - most definitely not for the faint hearted!

Overall there was nothing whatsoever wrong with the hotel; it just had that 'pile-it-high-sell-it-cheap' feel about it that you get in cut-price supermarkets.

Would I go there again? I wouldn't rule it out, but I think I would have a good look around at other hotels in the area first.

“Fantastic!”

Hotel Limonaia

I have been meaning to write this review from the moment we touched down at Luton airport.
My husband booked this holiday as a cheap last minute getaway (being a teacher getting anything cheap during half term is a miracle in itself), when he first told me about it I was very excited Lake Garda, how fantastic. I decided to go on the net and discover a bit more about the hotel and area that we were staying in. I could of cried, the tales of horror about the hotel caused me at one point to want to cancel the holiday. After much discussion we decided to just go for it, the money was paid already so no refund available and I was already prepared for the worst.
When we arrived at the Lake my breathe was taken away by the stunning the views everywhere you looked. When we got to the hotel I was slightly more reassured by the really friendly lady on reception who spoke perfect English, and the fabulous views from the terrace of the bar. We were given the room key and both my husband and I braced ourselves for what we were expecting to be an awful/dirty room. The room was fine, very basic, but very clean and believe me I would rather have basic and the most glorious view of the Lake and all mod-cons and a view of a building site.
Our whole holiday was amazing, with organised trips to Verona and Venice (more were available). The hotel, staff and other guests just added to a fantastic holiday.
I would recommend this place to anyone, in fact I am encouraging my parents to go this October (and believe me my Mother is very fussy).

“A lovely hotel”

Hotel Limonaia

I cannot believe the appaling reviews about this Hotel, I can only guess that the complainers are professional whingers. The view from the Hotel is wonderful, the staff fantastic, and the rooms are scrupulously clean albeit a lttle basic.

The food was basically good but a major criticism is that the buffet style meals were invariably cold. They always serve two choices of pasta but again although very pleasant they were also invariably cold. The food is redeemed by a fantastic salad buffet with a huge choice of salads and other delicacacies. The restaurant would profit by having a means of heating the plates, if this was the case the food would be more than acceptable

The Hotel is NOT suitable for the aged or inform as the approach is up a very steep gradient too steep to allow access to large coaches, I personally would stay there again but would rent a car at the airport and make my own way there.

For the price this Hotel is of excellent value I have stayed in 4 star Hotels with inferior rooms, and without the magnificent views and friendly staff, one last plea from the heart do NOT even bother to go to the lounge on entertainment night the key board player should be shot!!!!

“Terrible. Moved hotel after one day!”

Hotel Limonaia

Oct 10, 2007
2/2 found this review helpful

Upon arrival at the hotel, La Limonaia, we were extremely surprised by its general appearance which was quite scruffy and dated. The foyer and reception area resembled a bed and breakfast from the 1970’s. There was a very unpleasant smell of gas and a poor level of cleanliness; one example of this was a dried flower arrangement we noticed on the stairway that was thick with dust.

When we went to check in we were greeted with an extremely hostile reception. We were frostily told that our room would not be ready for an hour and when we asked where we should wait, the lady on reception tutted, rolled her eyes and pointed rudely to a seating area. I was very surprised at this. We had been up since 3.30am in order to catch our flight and were tired and in need freshening up. I think it should have been pointed out by the Inghams representative that we would be unable to get into our rooms until later in the day. I holiday 3-4 times a year and have never encountered this with any other company.
It was at this point that we realised that we didn’t know where our luggage was; when we were dropped off by the minibus that transported us from the coach to the hotel the driver said that they would be brought inside for us. We asked reception where our cases might be- once again we were answered extremely rudely and told they did not know. We then went back downstairs to investigate and found them dumped at the side of the path on the drive to the hotel and mine had a huge crack in it! (See attached photo). Some fellow tourists sitting on a nearby bench informed us that they had witnessed the driver basically throw them from his vehicle with no regard for what may be inside at all.

When we were finally granted access to our room, my worst fears were realised..it was as poor quality as the rest of the hotel. The main issues were:

Twin beds-we booked a double room.
The same musty smell
Severe mould in the bathroom, both in the shower cubicle and on the curtains, (see attached photo).
No proper towels in the bathroom. Only cotton, cloth type towels.
The balcony was shared with the room next door; the only thing separating the two was a piece of string (see attached photo). This granted no privacy whatsoever. It also raised security issues, as it would have been possible for whoever was in the next room to access our room via the balcony.
The “Sky TV” advertised in the brochure did not include any English speaking channels-surely this ought not to be used to advertise the hotel to British tourists?

Lastly, when we were already extremely upset by what we were faced with, we went outside to get some fresh air and the door handle of the room CAME OFF IN MY HAND!!! That was the last straw. I t was at this point that we contacted our Inghams rep, and expressed our wish to be moved.
To her credit, the Inghams rep was extremely helpful and had arranged for us to be moved by 7pm that evening to the hotel Europa. This was much better, mainly due to the very friendly owners and staff and a better level of cleanliness, however it was still not the type of place we had in mind when we booked our holiday.
