We returned from Limone on Saturday after our weeks stay and we loved every minute of it. When we read the reviews after we had booked, we didnt know what to expect, but we knew it was only 3 star accomodation, so didnt expect too much.
In our opinion the bad reviews by people about this hotel are by people that are just too picky. Our room was basic but nice and clean, the food was good and all the staff were always friendly and polite.
The food was what we expected and although was only pasta, the quality was amazing as you would expect in Italy. There was always a good choice of thier version of an english breakfast, fruit, cereal, yoghurts, cheeses and hams, so plenty to choice, and I am very fussy. Same for the evening meal, if you didnt want pasta or pizza then there was meat and salad or potatoes and lots of choice for pudding. We went in Low season but towards the end of the week when more guests arrived, we realised if you want more choice then go to breakfast/dinner at the opening time as it gets busy. If your self catering there is a pizzeria on the groundfloor of the hotel.
There was a keyboard player in the lounge/bar area a few times a week and he isnt great, but tries his best and made us laugh and kept us entertained.
In the Low season the centre of Limone was really quiet in the evening so we decided to stay in the Hotel, but i think it would get nice and lively-ish in the middle of may. All the food was really nice but even though we was half board we ate out in Limone a few times and never had any complaints about the food or the price. If you go on trips into venice however you will realise the cost of food/drink will escalate.
It is only 7 euros each with a discount card to go to Malcesine on the boat and it is well worth it, its a lovely town, lots of winding alleys and shops, and cafes. The hot chocolate and cakes are amazing!
I went with my boyfriend and we are both in Mid 20s and the only thing that we found was that the hill from Limone to the Hotel is a killer, very steep. You have to take deep breaths and have a few pit stops along the way, but the views are worth it. Watch the roads and turn left , then right down the hill across the road into the town, dont go right under the tunnels as the italians are not pedestrian friendly, and the tunnels are dangeous.
If you book this hotel go with an open mind as it is a little dated and rustic, but exactly what i expected in the mountains and would highly reccomend it. There is other hotels lower down the hill and closer to Limone, but they dont benefit from the view/charm that this hotel has.
