It has taken a while to write this review, simply because my wife and I have finally taken the pictures from our trip to Munich and hung them up and it brought me back to this wonderful trip...and most importantly to the reader, our stay at Hotel Laimer.
Upon landing in Munich, it was a quick 30 minute train ride to Laimer trainstation. From there, it was a brisk and direct 10 minute walk to the hotel from the trainstation. I highly recommend you check Hotel Laimer's website, for the do an excellent job highlighting the several options available to getting to the hotel. For my wife and I, being able to rely solely on public transportation and good ol' fashion walking was one of primary reasons for picking this hotel. On that point, even though it is located in the suburbs of Munich (about a 10-15 minute train ride to the city center), the tram, buses, and of course, train system are within 2 and 10 mins. walk respectively. For my wife and I, we just loved being able to get up at 6am, finish breakfast by 7am, catch the train by 7:10, be at Marienplatz (city center) by 7:25, and shop for mid-morning snacks at the outdoor Viktualienmarkt by 7:30.
Beyond location, the staff at Hotel Laimer were extremely helpful. The owners and staff are proficient in English, and know exactly the types of questions that need answers before the tourist even knows to ask them. They also had helpful recommendations for eating out, sightseeing, and participating in the local culture. The manager was even kind enough to leave us with a souvenior before our departure (tea mugs with Hotel logo) to bring us back to our trip, every time we drink tea.
Every morning, breakfast is served as it would be on a local family's breakfast table, and it was a joy to be able to live like a German for the week in this capacity. Cold cuts, fresh fruit and juice, musli and ceraels, and baked delights (I was particularly fond of the Nutella spread on whole grain rolls). Being vegetarians, there was plenty to be satisfied with, if that is a concern of yours.
The room we had was wunderbar!! While a popular criticism of EEuropean hotels are the size, we found the room to be roomy enough for our personal needs (we were never really in the room that often anyway, it was just a utilitarian feature of our trip, simply for sleep and bathing). There was a large dresser system to store all our clothing, and even a little, old fashion pull out desk for storing trinkets. The bathrooms were spacious and clean and full of morning light.
Finally, we found this hotel to be a tremendous buy for the 95 euros a night we spent and would highly recommend it to anyone and cannot wait to get back.
