My room at the Anna was booked for me by business partners whom I was visiting for a meeting in town. Overall instant reaction: a super place with slight noise problems on one side (so ask for a room on the other). More info:
My room was spotlessly clean and very elegant in a minimalist European way: accent spotlighting, very comfortable bed with twin duvets, hardwood floor and Venetian blinds (people with allergies or problems with carpets and drapes, this is the place for you). Free minibar in the non-spiritous mode (beers and soft drinks). Open closet area with decent removable hangers and good shelf space. Large flat-panel TV with all the usual German channels, as well as CNN, BBC 24, MTV, some other international favorites. The radio / sound system comes with a cable and plug so that you can plug in your iPod or other MP3 player and enjoy your own music. Air condtioning is quiet and effective.
Bathroom very neat -- textured slate floor, iridescent mosaics in the shower stall, which was a beautiful tall clear glass box. This featured a wide-rose "drench" shower head as well as the more typically European "telephone" hand-held shower fixture, and a graceful mosaicked seat built into the shower wall. High-style bowl sink on thick glass slab base -- very chic.
Someone in the comments complained about the lack of toiletries. The shower featured a tube of a combination body / hair shampoo, which is something you run into a lot in Germany. Then there was soap for the sink, as well as a little box with condoms and a nail-grooming kit. So if you need serious hair or body toiletries, you'd better bring your own.
About the noise: First of all, the rooms are acoustically bright because of the hardwood floor and lack of drapes, but this didn't particularly bother me. The other problem: the rooms on the road / tram side of the hotel start getting a little noisy around 6 AM. If noise is an issue for you, ask for a room on the side of the hotel that faces toward the pedestrian precinct.
Staff were beautifully polite, friendly, helpful, interested in knowing your name and pronouncing it correctly, and all English-fluent (for those who're nervous about the language divide). Service in the downstairs bar -- famous for its "environmental" light show, almost an art installation -- spills out into the street in good weather. Free wi-fi in the bar, which becomes a very convenient place to work: open, airy and pleasant. (This is also the breakfast room in the mornings.)
To sum up: a super place, one I look forward to visiting again when next in Munich.
