“Fabulous hotel & location”

Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munchen

5 of 5 stars
Brentwood, Essex
Jul 7, 2008

What a fabulous, grand and well placed hotel! I stayed here with 3 friends and all of us would definately recommend it to anyone! The hotel is placed on one of the major streets in the city, within easy walking distance of everything you could possible want to do and see whilst in Munich. The Hofbrauhaus was just minutes away, the other sites just around the corner! The hotel is surrounded by luxury shops, many resaurants & bars and is easy to find and is excellent as a base to explore everything. The hotel itself is well maintained and clean and the service from all the staff was exceptional. In particular they have a wonderful concierge call Jurgen, his English is colourful, his humour is comical, his knowledge second to none and his warmth and attention to detail faultless!! Do not be put off by the grandness of this hotel or the 5 star rating, there was no stuffiness at all and don't forget, most true Europeans are far more casual than us Brits!!!

“As they say - A Great Location”

Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munchen

4 of 5 stars
Melbourne
Jun 30, 2008

I stayed here with a number of staff and found the amenities to be more than adequate. Getting in the front entrance of the hotel with a car is a little tricky but most folk used the valet parking so no problem. I used the restaurant for breakfast and it is not cheap - but i recommend you do it at least one day at least as it is first class. The bar is quit cosy and well serviced. The pool and health club is modern and friendly. You can walk to any part of the city centre in 3-10mins. Great location

I have posted some panorama pictures.

“service and location are what make this hotel a fine hotel”

Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munchen

I have visited this hotel twice. I am currently here for a 10 day stay on business. My opinion is that a hotel that is 150 years old is going to be a bit ragged at the edges. The lobby is very impressive, the stained glass dome in it will make even the most experienced traveler take note. If I could I would give it 3.5 stars not 4, but it doesnt deserve 3, so I am giving it 4.

The standard rooms are lacking, and strike me as nothing special. The layout, the lighting, the artwork, and the mirrors, are very ordinary and cheap looking , almost as if they were from a mid priced motel. The company does try to dress up the rooms by putting in some elegent wood touches, the doors to all the rooms, and then the wardrobes within the rooms, and accent panels, are made of a high end wood like tiger maple or something similar. The bathroom as expected is old school, no bells and whistles that you see in newer hotels. Nice selection of amenities offered in the bathroom. I would imagine more than 50% of the rooms look out into a rather drab internal courtyard.

This really has to be expected because of the age of the place. What can they really do at this point except gut it, save for the old public rooms.

However the service of the room was top notch. Immaculately clean, and attended to several times a day. Having a clean room is one of the most important things to me.

Room service although outrageously priced, (9,5 euros for a cup of coffee?), was fast and the moment you put the tray outside your door it was gone. Food was just ok.

Phone always answered quickly when I called the front desk or housekeeping, or room service. Wakeup call is old school you actually talk to a person and they offer to call you back 15 minutes later just to make sure you wake up.

I had drinks in the lobby and service was great, and they offered nice snacks with my beer.

The pool is very high end, I think it had an infinity edge, it is on the top floor, and the outside deck has a great view of all the steeples of Munich, and a great place to get sun in the afternoon.

The location is perfect for a tourist. Short walk to the more famous landmarks, shopping, and public parks like the English Garden.

Movie choices are too limited, and the TV's need to be updated. I think they need to offer an english channel on the free TV that is not news.

“Wonderful location, friendly staff but overall, quite overpriced!”

Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munchen

May 25, 2008

While I acknowledged the wonderful location of Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski (being right on MaximilianStrasse and next to the National Theatre and literally 5-10 minutes walk to Marienplatz), I believe it to be overpriced for what you are paying for.

The rooms are clean but feels quite claustrophonic for the price. The double bed is actually two single beds joined together, which suffice to say, is not too comfortable. The CRT TV is located on an awkward corner of the room that doesn't provide for easy viewing from the bed. A nice flat-screen would have done the job but perhaps my €230/night doesn't justify that.

For some strange reason, while connection to the internet via the provided phone line is free, the connection to the internet on the TV is charged. Aside from the usual German language channels, you can find BBC, CNN and CNBC.

The bathroom is decent with the usual toiteries provided. The bathtub is quite small. Bathrobes and bedroom slippers are provided.

A tiny fridge is provided as is a room safe but no coffee/tea making facilities. Complementary newspapers are also provided.

Checking in was pleasant as is dealing with other staff. One thorn on the side was asking for an extension on checking-out. I had a business meeting that ended at 230pm and requested for a 300pm extended check-out but was only granted an extension until 200pm while a colleague staying in the hotel got an extension until 300pm. There is obviously some inconsistencies and perhaps discrimination on their part.

Breakfast (not included) was pleasant with a good spread of both hot and cold meats, variety of eggs and cereals. But at €30, it is not worth it.

Overall, the location is wonderful and while it is a good hotel, I do not think it can justifiably claim to be one of the leading hotels of the world.
