Hotel zum Turken

My friend and I just finished a 3-night stay here and cannot give enough compliments to the staff. We were treated like family and made to feel very welcome. Check in and check out was simple. The breakfasts are fantastic and even offer made-to-order eggs. We had a balcony room overlooking the valley, which I'd recommend if you have a choice. If we ever make it back to Germany, we intend to come back to the Turken and enjoy ourselves again!

I booked this hotel because of what I read in Frommers about the hotels military significance during the second world war. Well it was fantastic. The staff at teh hotel were more than friendly, the rooms were, spotless and our balcony view was to die for. The Eagles nest is above the hotel and you can see it, Hitlers Berghof was 40 yards away. wonderful place we hope to return next year

“Our most enjoyable stay in Germany”

Hotel zum Turken

Apr 28, 2008

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Zum Türken during May of 2007, and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a relaxing retreat into the Bavarian Alps. Frau Ingrid Scharfenberg has the most wonderful personality, and is an absolute joy to speak with. The hotel has been in her family for three generations, and it shows through in her love of the hotel, and her extensive knowledge of the history of Berchtesgaden.

You cannot get a better view anywhere in the world than the one from the front balcony of the Turken. It is truly beyond description. The entire area is a lush green wonderland with the jagged rock of the alps softened by the delicate colors of wildflowers. It's so peaceful and relaxing you won't want to leave.

Be sure to book a room with a balcony if you can.

“Wonderful Alpine Hiking Experience”

Had the great pleasure of staying at the zum Turken over the May Day holiday. Frau Scharfenberg, the owner of the Hotel (it's been in her family for over 100 years!) is a treasure, she speaks english, she is very helful and friendly and she is a great cook!

The rooms are very clean and offer great panoramic views of the Untersberg mountain and the valley, the breakfasts are fantastic, and the hotel offers few distractions as it does not have telephones , televisions or the internet in the rooms.

There is lots to do in the area. There is hiking, boating, salt baths, historic places, and wonderful German dining.

All in all, my stay was a very positive and restful experience where I got to meet and become acquainted with the hotel quests in a casual peaceful setting, reminiscent of the way hotels and guest houses used to be in the 1950's. You will want to return again! I highly recommend the zum Turken to you!

“Location was everything”

Hotel zum Turken

My wife and I spent 2 days here. We weren't really expecting a lot so we weren't surprised or disappointed. The history of the hotel and the area is worth the price of admission., which was $140 euros per night. If you go online and read about the hotel and see the pictures you will have a good idea what to expect. It is rather drab but comfortable. The room did not have a phone or t.v. I would suggest a room with a bath.
We walked to the Intercontinental Hotel for dinner. Frau Scharfenberg, who is very nice and interesting, prepared a hearty breakfast . The town of Berchtesgaden was pleasant enough and a 12 euro taxi ride away . If you're looking for a typical European hotel you might want to look elsewhere. If the hotel was remodeled it would ruin the appeal, in my opinion.
