“Fantastic Hotel! Shame about the very badly mannered Bar Man!”

Morrison Hotel

Aug 5, 2008

Stayed at the Morrison hotel for two nights in July 2008. On first impressions the hotel is very nice and has some great little touches! Loved the dark lobby, lift area, bar etc and room was absoloutely stunning and very spacious.
The blonde haired lady on reception was very friendly & welcoming and the conceirge was extremely helpful & went over and above his duties giving us exceptional customer service!

The only downside about the hotel which put a dampner on our trip was the very rude foreign bar man who served us when we went to the bar at 10.30pm on the Friday evening. When we ordered drinks he looked at his watch, puffed and was generally very very rude! Then when we went to get a second drink he basically interrogated us - once we had signed for our drinks he asked me to spell my surname. This made us very uncomfortable as it seemed he thought we were trying our luck to get drinks & didn't feel like valued guests at the hotel.
Also, when we ordered a cocktail from the very nice, friendly waitress from Hungary after she spoke to the rude barman she had to come back down and tell us they weren't serving any cocktails at 11pm- just normal drinks- total disgrace as other people were still drinking them! Think this was just us personally who were told this!!

On going to the bar the 2nd night the same bar man when greeted with a hello completley ignored us and went on to serve another man at the bar who clearly wasn't before us. Not impressed with his attitude and customer service skills at all!

Apart from our bad experience in the bar our stay was great- would have been perfect if our experience of the bar had been better!

Advice- get new bar man!

“Not bad, but could be improved upon”

We were looking forward to our time at the Morrison, but were slightly disappointed with the actual hotel property.

Let's start with the good aspects first! The hotel is modern and funky. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Not over the top, but available should when we needed anything.

The hotel had a great location – very central. It was within walking distance to lots of shops as well as the fun and popular Temple Bar area. The room was spacious and came with a mini bar fridge, which was great for storing fruit and drinks.

Now for the negatives:
The bed was terribly uncomfortable and my back ached after just a couple of nights. This is the first time I’ve ever had any back pain.

The washroom was decent, but we had a lot of trouble flushing the toilet. The handle was awkwardly located on the side of the wall, behind the toilet. Every time we left the hotel room to go out the doorknob came off in our hand and we had to put it back on. Not great when the property is falling apart!

All in all the room met our needs, but I was disappointed based on other reviews we'd read and the price per night!

“Perfect location for the city”

Morrison Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Ireland
Jul 22, 2008

Have just returned from a overnight stay at The Morrison. The Hotel is very easy to find (just on the Quays) look out for the signs for Jervis Street Shopping Centre. The hotels is within walking distance of the city and adjacent to Temple Bar. Rooms are modern and breakfast was excellent. The Jervis St stop for The LUAS is just behind the hotel. The only drawback is that parking for the hotel is located in The Jervis St Shopping Centre Carpark and this carpark closes each night at 7.30, with exceptions on Thursday and Friday when it closes at 9pm so if you are checking in after those time you will have to park on the street which can be hard to find in this area. The car park opens each morning at 7.30 with the exception of Sunday when it opens at 10.30. We would stay here again because of its great location.

stayed here last year and loved it so we booked again and we were not disapointed, in fact the barman remembered us from last year ! we had a problem with water leaking in our room and it was sorted straightaway no problem the breakfast again was superb so much choice and yes it is a little dark in places but its fine , if i had to find fault the mirror area needs lighting up in the bedroom, so you can see better but its not a major problem at all,we will be back!

“Absolutely no problems”

Morrison Hotel

Had a great experience here. Yes, the bar is dimly lit, yes the corridors are also dimly lit, but it's not that there is something to hide. It's purely to create ambiance. In the evening little tealight candles are scattered throughout and along the steps on stairs which adds to the feeling. The main entrance on the quayside does bring you straight into the bar which, in order to get to reception, you have to walk through. But there is a clear designated walkway to follow that is set apart and runs parallel to the bar seating area - so you are not actually walking THROUGH the bar as some reviews might have you believe. Alternatively, there is a side entrance (Jervis St side) that brings you straight into reception.
Check in was a breeze - very efficient and polite staff. We were asked if there were any special requirements and we said all we needed was a taxi for 8.45pm to bring us to the restaurant we were visiting. Reception said no problem - they would book one for us.
The room was perfectly fine. Ok, wasn't a room with a view (back of hotel) but that wasn't important to us as we had plans for the evening.
Loved the fluffy robes, slippers, bathroom smellies etc. Comfy bed, great big pillows, sound system, flatscreen interactive TV, etc. Really, nothing to fault at all.
We took our aperatif before dinner in the bar. Again, faultless. Background music was of the chilled variety.
And as promised by reception, our 8.45pm taxi arrived.
Upon return from dinner, we went back to the bar for a nightcap and then went to bed - before which we decided to have breakfast in bed the next morning. So we filled out the menu card and slipped it on the door. (This was well after 1.30am).
Breakfast was served promptly at 9am (after a brief phone call to warn us it was on its way). Full Irish which was not greasy at all. Excellent I would say (and I'm Irish so I know what a fry is all about). We also had cereal, toast, croissants, juice. Really was fresh.
Check out was also no problem. Very gracious front desk staff.
All in all, a great experience. Not cheap, but then again Dublin these days is not cheap. I found it worth the added few Euros as it left us with a good impression and no hesitation in returning. If Laura Ashley is your cup of tea and middle England, then the decor/style may not be for you. But we found it bordering more on the hip/contemporary without being too much either and in keeping with Dublin's young modern vibe.
We didn't eat at the restaurant itself so we cannot comment.
