“great find”

B&B Le Cartier

5 of 5 stars
Newfoundland
Sep 6, 2007

Had an absolutely great time here. Right off St. Catherine's, but no street noise (even though we had the front room). Very convenient to metro and bus station. Pickup service from the airport was also a very welcome extra, well worth the cost.

Richard is certainly quirky, but very friendly and welcoming, and quite helpful with advice on what to see and do in the city. Breakfast (self-serve) was more than adequate (although one morning I noticed a little mold on the croissants), and the little garden was a delightful place to linger over breakfast or an afternoon glass of wine. And with the ample refrigerator available for guest use, we were able to pick up fruit and cheese at Atwater Market for such occasions.

The shared bathroom was spotless at all times, towels are big and soft, the bed was comfortable. All in all, a great place to stay, and I would definitely go back.

“excellent experience”

B&B Le Cartier

Dec 19, 2006

Meant to write this a few months ago, but here goes.
A group of 6 of us stayed here for 12 nights from the end of July. We had 2 couples upstairs and 1 couple downstairs, all of us had a fantastic time and will return to Montreal and this B&B whenever we get the chance. The 2 upstairs rooms have their own private facilities and they share a common (well equipped)kitchen, Richard even shows you how to use the (fresh) Coffee Maker. All breakfasts are only continental, and you get it yourself so to speak, but there is a big range of stuff to choose from.
The down stairs rooms are smaller, and share 1 bathroom/toliet, they also have a downstairs kitchen they share as well. The downstrairs rooms are smaller, and cheaper, so are better for the more budget conscious, which suited me perfectly.
The location is great for Rue St Catherine, literally 1 minutes walk away, and also for Papineau Station, again 1 minutes walk away, there's a great Supermarket next door to the Station and a range of reasonably priced restauarnts close by as well. You're not near the CBD, City or financial area here, but that's why you stay in this area, it's a great spot for nearby nightlife.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Proximity to Rue St Catherine & our fabulous host's (Richard) local knowledge.
    • Disliked — Shared bathroom - but that's all my budget would allow.
    • Tips/Secrets: — It really does help to be able to speak a little French in this area, especially at the Supermarket.

“Good stay”

B&B Le Cartier

4 of 5 stars
Norwich, UK
Nov 16, 2006

A great B&B in a good location. Just round the corner of the gay district and metro lines.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable, with very clean decor (modern/stylish feel). The room was large with a big double bed - although the place only has a shared bathroom, it was kept very clean (looks almost new '06). Breakfast is 'continental' style - cereal, coffee, orange juice and there was a few croissants out whilst we were there.

The host was very interesting - initial impression was of typical abrupt Frenchman, but he was actually very warm and helpful.

To stay here is a real experience. The decor and amenities are a delight and the owner is unique among landlords. He will give you all the help you need to explore this fascinating city. Beds are large, fresh towels daily and you help yourself to breakfast when it suits. It is situated very close to Papineau metro just off St Catherine Street. Not quite as central as we had hoped but within walking distance of vieux Montreal and St Denis and St Laurent
