We stayed for one night when we were on a business trip to Montreal. The hotel was lovely with free wi-fi, breakfast and a wine and cheese reception. The location is perfect and the rooms gorgeous. I read a previous review which mentioned noise from the downstairs bar but I was on the 5th floor so it was very peaceful. I would definitely stay here again even though my room had only a shower and no bath (I would miss the bath if I was here sightseeing & walking miles each day) and no coffee maker in the room. But these are minor quibbles. It's a beautiful hotel.

“Choose room carefully & check valet”

Le Place d'Armes Hotel & Suites

May 1, 2008

Having stayed in Montreal several times at the Nelligan, I wanted to try something new and had heard good things about the Place D'Armes. The hotel appears to have potential, and maybe i was just unlucky.

I booked my room the same week of my stay, and was limited in terms of options. I was given a standard room which unfortunately was by the elevator. The standard rooms do not do the hotel justice in comparison to the pictures and write-ups on the hotel's website. I tried to change rooms - even upgrade but they could not accomodate.

Later that night i unfortunately found out that you can CLEARLY hear the music from the nightclub if your room is above it on the 3rd floor (i assume there aren't rooms on the 2nd floor...it would be unbearable) - until 3am.

As all travellers know, this sometimes happens and I'm simply encouraging other guests to make sure they are booked into something better than a standard room if their trip is for pleasure and they're looking to truly enjoy what is considered to be a nice hotel.

Another thing to look out for is the valet parking at the hotel. At check-in I parked my car on the street at 2pm and handed the valet the keys. An hour later, the car was gone - presumably in the secure lot they advertise. At 11pm it was back on the street. I'm not sure why it (a less than 1 year old sports car) was brought back out - perhaps so someone else's (more important car?) could be put in? Regardless, I don't consider leaving my car on the street rather than in the advertised 'secure lot' as being valet parked. Unfortunately the car was also over 2 feet from the curb, on a corner, with the sideview mirrors sticking out - an accident waiting to happen on a busy city street.

I let the front desk know about these issues when i checked out - they were apologetic, but not helpful.

As I drove away, i had the luxury of watching the valet back another guest's car into the one behind it. He got out and walked immediately back to the hotel...not checking either for damage.

Valet parking is something to be careful of wherever you use it....and apparently at this hotel especially.

“Best Hotel Stay. Ever.”

Have stayed in countless hotels up and down the East coast of North America. This place, I cannot even describe the level of service and attention. We were only there for approximately 23 hours but felt absolutely welcomed and not hassled for our bags or whatever. They gave us a prodigious breakfast (but I'm thinking it was my drop-dead gorgeous companion exploring the old world yet amazingly reconstructed boite on the ground floor.) Merci.

This would prove to be in stark contrast to the twelve-to-a room frat party we would encounter in Mont Tremblant (and at a much higher per-night rate, mind you.) Okay, yah: party hardy youngbloods- I was there. But at a shithole apartment with a barking dog in the yard. Whatever. I am all for the Hotel Place D'Armes whenever and wherever. In MontreaL...

Love you guys! Don't change! Plus ca change, plus ca meme, I know. But good hotels are hard to come by, I know.

Kisses,
BH

“Perfect Retreat for Couples”

I booked this hotel to celebrate an anniversary with my fiance and we had a fantastic weekend. The previous reviews made me nervous but when we arrived everything was perfect.

The staff -- Very courteous, helpful and pleasant. No obnoxious attitudes.

The room -- Very spacious, well equipped (the cables needed to be hooked up to the TV to play DVDs), bed was superbly comfortable.

The washroom -- Despite reviews that they are "too dark" - I found it just right, I don't expect there to be a 'kitchen-like' flood light in a washroom; the jacuzzi was great (it turns on by itself after you are done to clean itself, we thought something was wrong but everything was OK). Rain shower was great. Hotel samples were a nice touch and of good quality.

The hotel itself was clean, tastefully decorated. We played a game of pool but that's about all we did in the general area.

Breakfast at Suite 701 was just what you need- good MTL bagels, breads, yoghurts, cheeses, some cereals, great OJ/grapefruit juice. All fresh and delicious.

We parked just down the street for $14 a day, valet was $24 but you can save $10 by walking 200m further.

We both booked 60min Swedish massages at Rainspa. Again service was very good, no waiting around, full hour service. Genevieve was excellent - the atmosphere was so relaxing, my masseuse so effective that I fell asleep. I recommend getting a treatment and you can also use the Hammam (steam room). It was a nice place to relax after the massage but it's not as hot as steam rooms in bathhouses (e.g. Budapest).

I would definitely recommend this hotel and come back for another visit!
