“OK for atmosphere, service great”

Le Meridien King Edward

3 of 5 stars
New York City, New York
Jun 4, 2008

They checked me in super-early (8am) and upgraded me despite this being my first stay. Am torn about this property because the atmosphere is fairly upscale and old fashioned, which I love, and the service is great, but ... The gigantic room they gave me placed the TV 15 ft away from the bed, and the TV couldn't be seen from the couch because of the armoire doors. Also, they provided absolutely no food (in room coffee or anything else), except for a pint bottle of mineral water in the bathroom. As I was dead tired I ordered room service breakfast $30+CDN. Everything was very ordinary, the croissant and muffin at room temp, and overall not worth the money. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was very old English in style, with a very heavy brown sauce for the steak, in which it had been obviously sitting for hours (my res was at 8pm.) They did get the wedding party next door to lower the racket, and even asked about it next am. The location is good, quiet, room rate isn't terribly high, and the service is great, so overall it's good. I expected more from such a classy (looks and service) establishment.

“Great location, nice room, but $30 valet?!?!”

I'm a SPG member, so I got a room upgrade. The room was very big, but sparsely furnished. The bed's extremely comfy, although all in Starwood family, it's even better than the Heavenly Bed from Westin.

Location is fantastic, walking distance to St. Lawrence's Market, subway station, PATH, all kinds of places. Beer Bistro right across the street is marvelous for dining and beer tasting - 3 draught flights for $6, try as many as you want!

However, valet is $30, which is way overpriced, I think. Just continue on King Street past the hotel, at the corner of Church and King, you'd find a nice outdoor parking. Continue onwards to Jarvais and King, turn right, and on the left side of the street you'd find an indoor parking. I think I read $6 per day or something similar.

In any case, cheaper parking can be had elsewhere....would like to spend money on valet on more beer flights....

“Last minute booking, great time”

I redeemed SPG points for 2 nights in a one bedroom king suite at this location. I was surprised I could do it because it was last minute and during the Toronto Film Festival. The room location was a little odd, down some weird hallways and up some steps but the room was beautiful. Expert staff, all with great attitudes – always willing to help. The neighborhood is not that close to many of the top destinations but cabs are plentiful. The façade was under repair/construction while I was there but I’m sure that’s over by now. Overall a nice place to indulge yourself.

“Best Bed in Canada”

Of course you don't choose a hotel for the bed - but this is one of the most comfortable beds I have had in a hotel. I really did not want to get out of it in the mornings.
We stayed here for three nights and found the service to be first rate. The Consierge was very helpful and pleasant and the hotel was in a good position for the attractions of Toronto. The City explorer bus stops right outside of the hotel.
Because I was suffering with a heavy cold, we did have room service on all three nights of our stay. The food was served 'hot' and was of good quality.
I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again, when next in Toronto.

Good location for business and well kept. Bit expensive for what you get.
