We stayed at the Granville Island Hotel at the end of our trip to British Columbia. The only thing I would recommend about this hotel is the location. It is fabulous. The rooms were only adequate at best. During the trip we stayed at four other places and they were all fabulous. We paid the most at the Granville Island Hotel and the room was like a medium hotel room. We stayed only one night, if our stay was longer we would have tried to find another place to stay. Our room was on the second floor and a tin roof came right up to the window outside. We asked for another room but they said they were booked.
I would not stay there again.

“LOVED this hotel!”

Granville Island Hotel

My husband and I pored over hotels to choose one for our honeymoon. We finally settled on a penthouse suite here and absolutely could not have been more pleased. We LOVED this place! ALL of the staff we came into contact with were welcoming, friendly, and went above and beyond to be helpful. They drew us a map to the airport at 5am and even went so far as to help me arrange secret surprises for my husband's birthday and sneakily orchestrate them! In all the service we encountered even the smallest details were attended to. The location is FANTASTIC for anyone who wants to be close to downtown but not right in the middle of the busy traffic and challenging parking. The wonderful public market and numerous restaurants and shops are just a quick walk away, as are the ferries that take you to other parts of Vancouver. You can make a longer walk to Vanier Park and an even longer walk/easy drive to Kitsilano. Downtown is an easy drive. You can also easily walk, drive, or ferry to some of the extensive walking/biking pathways around the city. We paid $12 a day for the extended stay parking pass and never once had trouble finding a spot next to the hotel. I thought the penthouse was well worth the money for a romantic stay compared to the other hotels we considered. The balcony had impressive views and was private, the suite was huge and very comfortable. The pillows and bed were amazing; we slept better than ever! They put new fresh flowers in the room every few days. If we ever come back to Vancouver, we would not consider staying anywhere else.

    • Disliked — The beignets at the restaurant were disappointing, but all the other food we had was perfectly delicious

“Made our stay”

Granville Island Hotel

We loved this hotel and its location. Staying in an executive room with a seating area and a sleeping area, we had the most enjoyable stay. The water view was terrific. Could not fault the staff and would stay there again if we return at any time to Vancouver.

“Mixed experience”

Granville Island Hotel

May 30, 2008

I've stayed at this hotel twice now; the first visit was a few years ago and the room we got was amazing, with great views of False Creek and the water. Service seemed fine enough then, although we had no reason to really deal with them. The second time I stayed there was a marked contrast -- so much so that I'm not sure I want to stay there again. We requested a king, but were booked into a room with two double beds, overlooking a boardwalk so we couldn't open our curtains. When we saw a couple check out, we asked if we could be switched to their room instead (we were just there for one night) and were told the same "sorry, we are fully booked." I don't quibble with hotel management since I'm sure they have reasons for doing things the way they do, but I don't like being lied to. Some kind of simple explanation would have satisfied us instead of a template response. When we were leaving to go the airport, we asked for a cab, to be met with the response, "oh, there are always cabs outside." After waiting 10 minutes outside to no avail, we decided to hoof it to the nearby cab stand. Amazing that the hotel staff couldn't even be bothered to call for a cab on a quiet early Saturday morning. When we stored our bags in the hotel's baggage area, one of the bags' handles was damaged when it was returned to us. After the annoyance of being treated rather shabbily we decided to forego complaining, cut our losses and learn from this experience. What a shame. Fortunately, Granville Island and Vancouver as usual did not disappoint.

“Sub Par Hotel for us”

Granville Island Hotel

The room was so tiny we could hardly fit in it. No carpet on the floor, hardly any outlets and the bathroom was too small. We requested a larger room, since we were a group of three, previously booked and wanting an adequate room. We were told none were available. The room was small and dark and old. In no way was this a three star hotel. We left that night for a better place.
