My husband and I booked a stay here for June 19-24 to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Before booking we were reading reviews on this site.
When we arrived we were greeted like everyone mentions with champagne and cold hand towels that are scented. Our check-in was easy and we were given our room within the hour that we arrived.
The only complaint I have was that our first room they gave to us was in building 5 and near the unsightly construction of the new marina condos that are going to be for sale. $450,000 to own.
Our room was quickly changed to building 7 which was much better. I don't think it matters at this resort which "view" you choose to have your room face. Pool is just as nice as ocean view and everything that is around. It's all appealing to the eye.
I think we did the right thing by tipping each morning to our gentleman housekeeper. We would leave $5.00 on the pillow each morning, and he cleaned the room early which we liked. Try meeting with them first and let them know that you like early cleanings. Turndown service was nice each evening.
We also tipped the man who refilled the minibar each day. We left his tip in the frig. My husband thought $2.00 a day was good for him. Mainly he was only restocking water for us. We aren't soda drinks and that's mainly what's in there besides a few cans of beer and some juices.
We also tipped at the poolside bars. They worked very hard in the hot sun to get you what you wanted as fast as possible. A dollar or two for drinks really is a steal.
We stayed at the mainpool each day with the convenient swim up bar. This was enjoyable. The views around are so relaxing and peaceful.
We aren't beach people, but did walk the beach a few times. We aren't ones to lay out on the sand. The water did have the grass and seedweed like everyone mentions, but it is cleaned with the tractors.
I've been to Cancun before and I think the water is a much nicer color over there. Being that this resort is on the other side of the pennisula, the color seems a little less vibrant.
Food was not top notch but still very good. We liked the french place the best.........Chez Issebelle. Service was very good and we tipped in this restaurant. We had our anniversary celebration dinner in this restaurant too. They decorated the table with a rose and rose petals which was very colorful and pretty on the white table linen.
House wine is included with meals but if you want another type of wine you must pay. All the drinks we tasted were made well and STRONG too. I enjoyed the martini bar before dinner. This bar is on the bottom level of the lobby area. It looks so nice in the evening hours.
The place is so clean and you never see anything laying around except for the pigs at the pool who can't bring their glass back to the swim up bar or back to their little table by their chairs for someone to remove. It doesn't look nice swimming around the beautiful pool beneath the Lobster House with empty glasses all around.
There are "float hogs" like I heard mentioned on this site. People think the floats are theirs for the whole day or even the duration of their stay. I've seen some take them back to their room which was absurd.
We were there for 5 nights and I really wish we would have stayed a week. Time always goes fast when you are away. I didn't think 5 nights were enough.
We packed SPF 30 and should have taken a higher number. Even though we have the olive skin, we burned. Maybe we didn't apply often enough, who knows. You might want to take different numbers along with you.
This resort is for couples although we did see some girls vactioning with their girlfriends.
Beware of channel 49 and 50 if you are shy and also some women who go topless on the beach and around the pool. I felt topless should be left for the beach area only.
Rooms are just as they appear in pictures on this site. Very beautiful and very spacious. Marble everywhere so you might want to take some slippers along for when you get out of the shower.
Speaking of shower....................OMG! We loved it. The "rain" head is the best! I want to get one at my home. We found no problem with the glass bathroom door everyone speaks about. I found the scale in the bathroom a funny feature. Who wants to see how much weight you are gaining while on vacation! LOL
You will not be disappointed with this resort. It's very nice and the grounds are even nicer. The staff are fabulous...especially the ones who run the activies during the day. They have a great sense of humor.
In closing, mostly everyone there speaks English so you won't be stuck if you aren't good with Spanish. I know enough to get by and used the language since I was in their country out of respect.
My husband and I can't wait till next year so we can return again.
