We recently hosted 120 guests at the Hyatt for our wedding and let me start by saying the Hyatt exceeded our expectations! We were a bit nervous choosing a site unseen for such a special occasion, but it was everything we needed and wanted for our very special event!
Let me start by commending the Hyatt staff for the level of service we received from the Hyatt from day one. We arrived 3 days in advance of the majority of our guests to make final preparations. The wedding coordinator, Lissette, and front desk manager, Elizabeth were GREAT!! Lissette attended to our every detail regarding the event preparations and did a good job coordinating with the other departments (eg. banquet, etc) to ensure that all three of our planned events went smoothly. Elizabeth, ensured we had private check-in set up for the time periods where we had large numbers of guests arriving. This made for a very simple and easy check-in process for everyone. Additionally, we had some last minute room changes that were needed and Elizabeth was so kind and helpful in making sure we had the appropriate accomodations for our guests. I can't say enough good things about them.
We hosted three events, a welcome reception at their Cassis Lounge, a celebration/rehearsal dinner on the La Concha Terrace and our wedding, cocktail hour and reception. We were pleased with the food and service for all the events! Our wedding ceremony was absolutely beautiful on the Premier Terrace overlooking the gorgeous Caribbean Sea! It was everything we envisioned when we planned for our destination wedding.
Our room accomodations in the Regency Club Tower were great! We loved the view and being able to sleep and wake up to the sounds of the waves being right outside the balcony. We had a beautiful view at sunrise every morning. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We absolutely loved the shower and tub!!! The rooms pictures are the Hyatt web-site accurately depict the rooms.
If I had to give a couple of comments as improvement opportunities I would mention the following... on our second day, the hotel needed to turn off the water to replace some pipes. We were unaware of this until we went to wash our hands in our bathroom and the water was not working. We called the front desk to learn of the issue. It would be my suggestion that in the future, the hotel manager issue a letter to slide under guest doors or a broadcast voicemail to inform guests of the issue and the approximate time they expect to restore service. This would have probably been easier for the front desk as well that probably had to field a lot of calls inquiring about why there was no water.
The peacoks that others have mentioned are indeed loud when they yelp, but they add to the charm of the place. Its a minor inconvience in my mind. However, we did have some guests that mentioned the noise from the club across the street. Because its an open air hotel, the sound travels so if you're a light sleeper, this could be bothersome. However in the Regency Club Tower, the noise is blocked by the Main Tower.
My other recommendation is that when they have large groups, they better plan for lunch time accomodations. The La Concha Terrace was the main place for lunch, but during peak lunch hours it was very busy with long waits for seating and service. The hotel did attempt to address this by opening their Cocay Cafe for buffet lunch as an alternative, but the selections there were not nearly as appetizing.
Before I return to my positives, let me also mention that our elderly guests struggled a bit with the cobblestone walk ways. I think it adds to the charm of the place, but if you have bad legs or trouble walking keep this in mind. You have to always be mindful of your footing so you don't fall or trip.
Let me end by saying that I really do highly recommend the Hyatt. While its not a sleek, modern, chic hotel like some of the higher rated properties, it has a great relaxed, resort atmoshere that works for all ages. With its choice in pools it allows you to spread out and not crowd in the same area every day. I truly appreciated that we didn't have to fight for seating by the pools and really loved the bali beds by the the premier terrace pool. We also were able to enjoy the beach as well which is not something you can say about a lot of the properties in Cancun post hurricane Wilma.
The Hyatt provided something for everyone in our group...young and old enjoyed themselves and we had guests that ranged in age from 5-88 years old! Not many hotels can you say that about. Oh and let me not forget "Chef"...he provided a great menu for our wedding reception that included beef, chicken and shrimp. It was a great dish (see photo) that we loved.
We are so glad that we chose the Hyatt and worked a group rate that included meals, drinks, and taxes. It really allowed for guests to fellowship and not worry about bills. Since the Hyatt is not an all-inclusive hotel, the food was much better than we would have gotten at a traditional all-inclusive. Everyone enjoyed it! Also, EVERY room at the Hyatt has a great view, so no matter what tower the guest was in they had an ocean view.
The Hyatt's personalized service and attention to our wedding and group needs was what I think makes the Hyatt a superior brand that you can consistently count on.
