“Wonderful Time”

Casa Iguana Hotel

My husband and I stayed in this hotel a couple years ago. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this hotel but we were both very pleasantly surprised. Everything was wonderful. The Staff was very nice, the rooms were clean and spacious. It was just the two of us but it was nice to know that we could bring two other friends with us b/c there were separate rooms. The kitchen and dinning area was great. We went to the supermercado in downtown PV and bought groceries. We had breakfast every morning in the room before heading to town. We never needed to rent a car. The bus picks you up right at the entrace to the hotel, which is a few minute walk from your room. The beach is right across the street. We took the bus everywhere. It runs until about 11pm at night so we could get up early in the morning and spend all day in downtown PV until late at night. PV is about a 15-20 minute drive from the hotel on the bus. The scenery is wonderful and I loved looking out the windows during the rides. We never felt really secluded and really enjoyed have a nice quiet hotel to return to at night. This hotel is great and very easy on your pocket book especially if you are a AAA member. They offer a good discount for AAA. I can't wait to go back!!

“What a GREAT Little Secret”

This was a great find. I was cautious when I saw the price we were paying and that the hotel was outside the city. I was delighted to see that I was wrong. The property was clean, the staff very friendly and attentive. All suites rooms with Mexican Rustic decor (nice touch). And third night is free!!! Can't beat a deal like that. The pool was clean, the jacuzzi inviting and the view breath taking. Waking each morning to the jungle sounds was awesome, The bus into town is just 500 ft up the road. Very easy to get into town and back again. The Beach was just down the road with cafes and palapas available. Water taxis, pleasure craft and snorkling/diving boats are available as well. The beach is shared with a nicer hotel so it is kept clean and inviting. The hotel also has a general store on the grounds open until 10:00 for that late nite snack or to stock up on margarita ingredients. I can't wait to return.

“Inexpensive and sparse”

We booked through a connect on this site, and got 4 nights for $223 incl tax. So, for the price it was excellent. The furniture is worn, the pool is not cleaned to a nice blue, the bougainvillea are all dying in the planters off the decks, the place needs new paint, and the restaurant's food is not the best(cold coffee some of the time, not very tasty food, small portions) but the pluses are as follows: Jorge the waiter sings nicely, The pool is like bathwater, the desk man Jaime is nice, the place is clean-no mold or smells (except for the ugly old sponges by the kitchen sink you are supposed to use on your dishes...!) and the convenience store is cheap (a roll of cookies, 2 croissants ,2 bananas and orange for $2) and the poolside recliners are comfy. It seemed there were very few other guests.
If you want to eat, go to the El Jacolito restaurant just over the bridge to the right....a HUGE plate of Garlic butter shrimp (at least 16 big ones!) for only $9.90 which includes salsa and chips and rice/fresh veggies plus the shrimp and tortillas.....the shrimp is the BEST i have ever eaten, done to perfection bought fresh every day from Mazatlan. We ate there every day - 2 times a day!! Tomas and his family own and run the place....they are the best! Don't miss going there! You are guaranteed a good meal every time!!
All in all it was well worth the money spent Lots to see and do in Mismaloya.
Things we also liked: free internet connection at the hotel for our laptop, cheap beer available at the store (24 bottles corona for $15) and the hike up 4 floors to our room(no elevator). There is a massage place on the beach that will do 2 persons for an hour for $55, and Roberto will take you to Los arcos for an hour of tour and snorkelling for $30. All in all a good beginning to our vacation. We write this from our Casa Iguana room and we go to Casa Isabel tomorrow in pv.

“Great stay in Mismaloya”

Casa Iguana Hotel

We just got back from a wonderful visit to Casa Iguana in the charming village of Mismaloya which is 20 minutes from PV. It is an all suites hotel with basic, attractive, clean accomodations. The jacuzzi is covered in brightly colored bouganvilleas and has an incredible view of the night sky. The location can't be beat if you want to be close to the beach, the river and the the mountains. We hiked up to El Eden every day and enjoyed the jungle, wilderness, locals and animals en route. Everywhere we ate from the places on the Mismaloya beach, restaurants in Mismaloya and Puerto Vallarta and in in the the Casa Iguana restaurant had great food. The best Margaritas were at the hotel bar! Transportation into PV was quick and easy and right at the corner. This trip felt like we got to experience a more genuine part of Mexico, thanks a lot to the staff and location at Casa Iguana.

“Worth It!”

Casa Iguana Hotel

Casa Iguana was truly a peaceful getaway for two Gringos, first-time visitors to Mexico. We were not looking for glitz, endless Margaritas, crowds, and high prices of the strip but instead experienced local village life, fine food, great weather, friendly people, and simply a neat place to spend a vacation.

Outside the flowering hotel grounds, walked cobblestone streets through the village of Mismaloya to the zoo--not San Diego Zoo, but nice, carved and molded into the desert jungle. Rode the lively bus (6 pesos) to downtown Puerto Vallarta, walking the Malecon, shopping for clothes, finding the perfect holiday tablecloth and gifts in the open malls and narrow-street flea markets, taking in the church, eating at Bolas along the river. Took the day trip to Las Caletas, watching leaping humpback whales, enjoying a great buffet on the beach, snorkeling (nominal here; much better places exist where there are coral reefs), and partying with the crew on the boat back to the Marina. Also highly recommend the Botanical Gardens south of Mismaloya. Tonys up the street from the hotel serves generous amounts of food; it got noisy there one evening when a boy three stories down exercised his fighting cocks, raising a ruckus among the neighborhood chickens.

We enjoyed Red Snapper, mahi-mahi, omelets and other great Mexican dishes at the hotel's La Cocina restaurant. Eat at least one dinner around 8-9pm; Jorge the 62-year-old manager gets out his guitar and belts out one or two memorable songs; what a grand voice from the heart. Libby (sp?) and Ricardo certainly treated us well there, and Jaime at the front desk walked us through our repeated questions.

Casa Iguana is set between the mountains along a stream a short walk from the beach. The local teenagers apparently are allowed to use the pool Friday evenings for a couple of hours, and it was neat watching them enjoy themselves from our balcony.

We met others at the hotel from Alaska, Canada, and our home state, Colorado. Many of our acquaintances in the area were repeat visitors. We'll long recommend Casa Iguana to friends and coworkers.
