“We didn't want to leave... EVER!”
We loved this place. It was quiet and friendly and very low key. Our room was tiny (we recommend springing for one of the larger rooms if you can afford it) but it was clean and had a microwave, fridge and basic necessities (kitchen towels, cutlery, coffee pot etc.). We didn't use the small, but attractive pool during our stay. We'd rather swim in the ocean when its right there... plus we snorkel and there was a reef right there. We did use the grill regularly. Grand Cayman is really pricy. Even lunch at a roadside jerk stand routinely cost $20-25 for the two of us and real restaurants were MUCH worse. The staff were super helpful and the owners were always around and they were wonderfully friendly too.
The Inn isn't near anything much (Bodden Town is pretty small). However its not far from anything either. It was a quick drive to Savannah and Georgetown or to Rum Point and the East End. For people like us who wanted a quiet, relaxing and stress free vacation, the vibe at the TNI was perfect. I don't think families with small children and especially those with teens would be as happy as we were (no nearby restaurants, clubs etc. and though the beach was lovely and sandy there was a patch of sharp, pebble sized coral rubble right as you get into the water, followed by a fairly thick band of turtle grass that would probably be a turn-off if all you wanted to do was swim.
Out beyond that though was one of the best reefs we saw in Grand Cayman. Although still showing much distress from the hit it took from Hurricane Ivan in 2004, the reef is coming back. A lot of soft corals and seafans were present and a variety of hard corals were still there. In addition we saw a wide variety of fish, along with conch, lobster, squid and much more. For us, the luxury of being able to walk to the water and snorkel a decent reef right from the Inn's beach was a huge plus.
We have seen some complaints about road noise. We had the small "maids room" which backs onto the road on the ground floor and we certainly did occasionally hear horns or truck brakes but the noise was soft enough that it was mostly drowned out by the AC unit and never so bad as to interfere with sleep.
Overall we strongly recommend this Inn. Grand Cayman is definately on our list of places to which we wish to return and, if and when we do, we will definately stay at the Turtle Nest Inn.
