“Courtyard San Juan Miramar - Expect long check-in process and wait”

Courtyard San Juan Miramar

2 of 5 stars

Stayed 1 night in this hotel the day before (a Saturday) our cruise on the Royal Caribbean. This hotel was ok, but did have a share of problems.

The CONS
1) EXPECT long wait for your room! Check-in time to this hotel is 3pm. We arrived at this hotel around 4pm and our room was not ready yet. We had booked 2 rooms. 1 for my husband and I (3rd floor). The other room for my in-laws (11th floor). It nearly took 1 hour before we were given our room key which was not good considering we just got in from a 5 hour flight and had to wait at the SJU airport an hour for our luggage to come out of baggage claim...which is another story.

2) The lights in the room are very dim so you'll have a hard time seeing things in the dark, if you needed to.

3) My in-laws room's (11th floor) air conditioning was not working properly. It was way too cold in the room and the thermostat control was set to the warm side.

4) There is only 1 elevator. The time we stayed, it was out of order, so we had to use the service elevator while it was being fixed

5) Far from the beach. If you want to be close to the beach, it's not in walking distance, you'll need to take a taxi or public bus.

The PROs
1) If you just need an overnight stay just for a cruise close (1 mile) to the PAN American Pier where Royal Caribbean ships are docked, the hotel is not bad.
2) The hotel workers were very friendly and informative. They allowed us to keep our luggage in their storage after we checked out. That gave us the ability to see Old San Juan and the Morro Fort
3) Taxis are always available
4) Room was very clean with good decor and comfortable bed
5) Close to Papa John's, Subway, Movie theatre, Dominos, and local puerto rican restaurant. There also is a small bistro at the hotel.

So all in all if the wait to get our room was faster, I would have rated this higher. If you want to stay more than 1 day, I wouldn't recommend it. If we go back to San Juan, we probably would try closer to Isla Verde.

“Nice, but I think I will stay at the Marriott Next time”

To begin the staff was very nice and friendly. They allowed us to leave our luggage after check out while we went shopping before our cruise was to leave out that evening, I cannot say enough about the staff. As for the hotel, it was OK. The bed was comfortable and the room itself was pretty clean. I liked the bathroom until I looked up and saw where part of the ceiling looked to have been leaking alot and the tub has some issues with some mold. I think it is because this building was an old building that had been renovated. I could see where when the painters painted, they just painted over the hinges, etc in the room. I noticed this inside and outside the room. As for the area, it was pretty dead. I think that is because iti was more or less a business district and we were there on the weekend. I will say the room was very quiet. If you are looking for a view, there really isn't one. If I had to do it again and considering how expensive this Courtyard was, I would rather pay the extra money and book at the Marriott in the Condado.

“Expensive, but great”

Courtyard San Juan Miramar

We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard the night before boarding a Caribbean cruise. Our choice was mainly based on the fact that this is one of the hotels by Royal Caribbean to put passengers up before their cruise. Although very expensive for the few hours spent, it was of a very high standard and close to the port. Checkin is at 3pm and checkout at 12 noon. However, were generally accommodating when we requested a 1pm checkout (however, the maid was not made aware and at first insisted we leave at 12 noon). Taxi's cost about US$12 - 14 to the port. The only negative is that the breakfast is extremely expensive. However, not to worry, there's a supermarket, and a couple eating places across the road. In terms of location, while good for the port, appears to be little to do - would therefore need to be prepared to take a taxi to the tourist areas.

“Good Value Pre-Cruise”

Courtyard San Juan Miramar

Booked one night through the Mariott website. I booked a double room, but upon arrival was told that I would only be given a king. I had to fight this at the desk. I will say however, that the desk agent handled this problem well. She maintained a calm demeanor and a smile the entire time.

The room itself was a city view and looks exactly like the pictures from the hotel website. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. I have no complaints in regard to the quality. We paid for a 3 star and received a 3 star.

There are several restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. I would suggest this hotel to anyone with a short stay in San Juan.

“Nice hotel”

First i would like to stay we had a great vacation for the eight days that we were there. When we showed up to the hotel it is very nice. there was eight of us(two families w/small kids). we requested to two rooms together but they could not set it up that day(they set us up two days later, even after we forgot). so we headed to our rooms and they were very clean and had the right amount of towels too! We were very pleased. The sliding doors are double walled glass. Staying near the airport was not a problem. You kind of blank it out after a while. once or three times an hour they fly over. the beach was nice and clean. The waiters were very nice and would help you with your chairs and umbrellas. The beach is not sand but small sea shells. but it was still nice. We ended up near the san juan hotel near the jet skies because the beach had very soft sand and the waves were smaller. the waves in front of the courtyard were very rough for my kids. they were nice size waves. So were always walking to the softsand beach near the san juan hotel. Plus they had a store that sold beer and spirts. stock up here and get you a foam cooler and take to the beach. It will save for a fe hundred dollars. the don q spirt was very good. Also don't trip on the beer. They come in 7 oz 10oz 12oz(the rarest of them all).
you will rarely be served a 12oz beer. The locals were great. Please come very fit. ; ) You will see that everyone(locals) at the beach is in shape. It must be all those 7oz beers that keeps them thin. You must try the beer called Presidenta. A great Dominican beer.
We ate at one restaurant down stairs and it was not worth the $24 charge. Dont eat there go out. the breakfast was very good. dinner no!!! go to Metropol for dinner it was the only place we ate at. there were two others i have forgot but i will edit when i receive my pictures. You need to rent a car before hand or at the hotel. you would get a better deal there. You must got Luquillo. the beaches were calm for small kids. the water is clear and cool. There are two places to get food and drinks. there are also restrooms and showers. it cost about $4 are car to get in. beers are about 2.50 a 10oz can. Food is about 4.00 and up.
we also did the bio kayak tour. we paid about 70$ buck a peice. it was kind of high but we have never sen the water glow like that. it was pretty cool but not for 70$. it was nice though kayaking.
two places that must been seen is Culebra
and Vieques. these are the most beautiful beaches in puerto rico. one other thing dont worry about the rain. it rains just for a few then it is back to the heat and sun. one time when were out it rained for about 30 min and that was it. not very hard .. i hope thhis helps.
