We stayed at Paradera Park for 5 nights late March. We arrived later than expected due to airport delays and Ingrid was more than happy to spend the time going over maps and giving us various tips. It was just perfect for us, since we prefer boutique hotels. It is situated in a residential area on a dead end street, and it is conveniently located to beaches and downtown area. However, you do need to rent a car.
This is an owner-occupied hotel. The grounds are meticulously kept. Although the island itself isn't very green, Paradera has truly made a "tropical oasis" with its lush gardens (flowering shrubs and plants are everywhere). Cabanas, hammocks and numerous palm trees add to the tropical ambiance.
We rented Unit 105 which was an end unit that was quite spacious and comfortable, and had an outside sitting area. Although the shower is on the small side, it was not an issue for us. The complimentary beach chairs, cooler and beach towels is a very nice touch. It was very quiet and peaceful. Luz, the housekeeper, was absolutely lovely and keeping the units and grounds spotless seems to be her #1 priority.
Some people have complained about mosquitoes. Believe me, I hate mosquitoes. With the constant trade winds we did not experience as many as we have on other islands. You always have the option of turning on the a/c and ceiling fan.
In terms of negatives, I would just say that one of the mattresses in our unit seemed to be uncomfortable. Since we had a unit with 3 singles (2 of which were together to make a double), I switched them around and that did the trick.
This was our first visit to Aruba and to Paradera Park...and we will be reserving a room for next year. Their website states "Our aim is to maintain our resort, gardens and Apartments in a clean and excellent condition offering high quality accommodation and facilities to our guests at affordable prices" -- kudos go out to Ingrid, Hank and Deb! Well done!!!
Tips: Remember to pack packets of sugar and pick up coffee and cream for the morning. We highly recommend Papiamento Restaurant - great food, ambiance and service. Boca Catalina and Arashi beach had great snorkeling.
