I and my wife stayed in a double room (Room 928) at this hotel (Tokyo Green Hotel Ochanomizu) from 20-25 December 2005 at a goodprice of S$179 per nite booked through -----.
There are 2 other Tokyo Green Hotels in the same chain near this hotel.
Despite the first disappointment of meeting the reception desk staff who could not express themselves in the English or Chinese language (we cannot understand Japanese, but are fluent in English and Chinese), we got by using hand signals. The most satisfactory outcome for me was being able to loan from the front desk free of charge a LAN ethernet high speed cable modem set that I used with own notebook computer in the room thoughout our stay. Broadband internet access from the room was excellent. I overcame the language barrier by speaking to the English-speakling phone operator from my room's phone by dialing "222" and obtained the necessary information from her. All the hotel staff (from reception through chambermaids) were extremely polite, the language barrier notwithstanding. All facilities in the room functioned well even though the room was small by western standards (but we must know land price is probibitabtly steep in Tokyo). The 2 elevators stop at every of the hotel's 15 floors.
For transportation, there are 3 subway/metro stations within 5-10 mins walk from this hotel: these are Ochanomizu, Kanda and Akihabara (Akihabara has the famour Electric City where all forms of electric gizmos from digital camera through MP3 players are sold). You can reach the central Tokyo metro station by riding on various (color-coded) rail lines from these 3 stations.
For food, there are several adjacent food outlets that I became aware of only towards the end of my stay. There is Denny's restaurent that you access by turning right upon exiting the hotel, walk past the bridge and then turn right again - Denny's is just 60 metres away to the left. If you continue walking from Denny's toward the traffic light junction (another 70 metres away), you enter the Akihabara Electric City area - unmistakable at nite cos it is brightly illuminated by neon advertisement lights. The other food outlets are just past the Ochanomizu Japan Rail metro station at the same building - there are KFC, and various Japanese and Chinese outlets. There are also some small shops. To get to Ochanomizu station, turn right upon exiting the hotel and walk till the bridge without crossing it, then turn left and go upslope till the traffic light junction: Ochanomizu station is just across the traffic lights. There are some small Japanese restaurant nestled to the rear of the hotel. StarBucks Coffee is about 70 metres to the left of this hotel when you exit it.
If you come from Narita Airport, take the Kensei rail to Kensei Ueno station and then take a taxi to this hotel (the Narita-Kensei Ueno fare is 1,000 Yen and taxi from there to this hotel is 900 Yen).
Will I return to this hotel again? Certainly I will for these reasons:
1. good value for money for its accessibilty.
2. free ethernet high speed internet access - bring my own notebook PC.
3. very courteous staff.
4. tidy and full functioning facilites.
We enjoyed this short stay at this hotel, despite the cold weather that we are unacumstomed to.
