Hi,

We are going from Vancouver to Seattle - our flight at 12 am. Choices with Amtrak are: 1) a bus at 5 pm (3.5 hour) or 2) a train at 5:45 - 4.5 hours.

As I read comments - the train more fun (it's what I'm looking for).

Is it enough 2 hours to get the airport from Amtrak? Can the train be late? Is it worth to rick?

Thanks!

I wouldn't risk the train even though its way more scenic. If it gets any delays your behind schedule. Your cutting it close either choice. Its easier to take a cab from Seattle Amtrak. It should be a flat rate of $28 but the fare is about that anyway.

I agree--no way would I take the train with a flight to catch at midnight--that's cutting it far too close.

Either take the train the day before and stay in Seattle for a night, or take an earlier bus. We had friends who took a bus last summer and they were stuck at the border for over 2 hours, so their trip from Vancouver took 5+ hours. No particular reason, just a backup, which happens in the summer months.

I don't know your travel plans but if possible and your starting in Seattle take the train to Vancouver then while in Vancouver if your planning to take a trip to Victoria come back to Seattle on the victoriaclipper.com as they have more departures.

Thanks everybody! I want this train so badly after all this comments.....I even have a crazy idea to miss the plain and fly on next one. They won't keep me forever on terminal, right?.....I don't know.....

We fly to Seattle - 2 nights in Downtown, Rent a car and drive to Olympic Park - 1 night in a cabin. Than, a ferry to Victoria - Bed & Breakfast 1 night. Than go go for 2 nights to Whistler. Than 7 days a cruise.

So, Vancouver left for "dessert" - 2 days/1 night. Seems like I need to come there another time just for the train raid.

Please, tell me that I will see enough beauty....I don't want to miss something "must see"...

ok how about a compromise? Splurge a do the train to Whistler. The whistlermountaineer will take you one way or round trip by train or train bus combo. Its a spectacularly scenic route as well.

When I flew out of Seatac I rented a car one way from Vancouver and dropped it off at Seatac with no drop-off fee. I don't know if this is still possible, but it was much cheaper than the bus or train and only takes about 2 hours to drive.

Oops, bad memory - I have been corrected in another post. 2 hours to drive is not enough, it would be closer to 3 depending on the border. I still liked the car option because of the flexibility.

Unfortunately many agencies have drop charges now..if ou check you may find a few that don't. The bigger issue is the border. We have driven to Seatac many times and the fastest we have ever been able to make it was 2 hours at 10 pm in the winter with no traffic and no border lineup! The issue with the border now is they are building new offices and there are only 4 lanes open instead of the former 8. Sometimes border waits are only 15-20 minutes..but they have also been up to 3 hours recently. IMO it's just not worth taking the chance.
