I stayed at The Governor Hotel on 9/18 and 19, 2008, attending a medical conference. Generally, my experience was reasonable, except for a significant disappointment. On returning home, and unpacking (single garment bag to my car to my home), I realized that I had not packed a pair of shoes. These shoes were black and as the hotel closet was... more

This is such a great hotel, it is hard to know where to begin. The lobby is warm and friendly, the rooms all have fireplaces, and Jake's is possibly the best restaurant in Portland. If they have pea soup on the menu, it helps complete the Governor experience. If you can afford a little splurge, book one of the junior... more

We booked this hotel for a college graduation. We were flying clear across the country and wanted to give my son a party in downtown Portland since that's where the school and his friends were. The consierge at The Governor understood exactly what we needed and gave us the "Lewis and Clark" suite with the adjoining 12-seat conference table and... more

Just returned from a stay at The Governor Hotel. We had a Parlor Suite and it was great. The windows opened to the street so we could feel the cool Portland air. The entire staff was professional and friendly. The con is that some of the non Parlor Suite rooms were very small but if you can upgrade to a... more

A difficult choice to stay here with mixed Tripadvisor reviews, but having stayed believe it should have a higher rating! The competitive price and location won out and we do not regret our decision. We requested a ‘Superior Queen’ room actually got two double beds and paid $127 per night (week night, two nights). Our room in the East Wing... more

Came in from New York with our older kids (19, 24) and one of their friends (21) for a family wedding and stayed in two adjoining suites on the 6th floor. The rooms were big, clean and appointed very nicely. We had some minor issues with certain things not working, and the staff was very quick to accomodate us. The... more

Beautiful old hotel with small rooms, no fridge, bathroom pretty basic, but clean upon arrival although housekeeping could have been better for second night. Halls are nice, carpet and other linens perfectly fine. Downstairs lobby is very pretty but not welcoming -- we usually try to "use" our hotels to get a real since of the place, but this one,... more

Our review is much different then the previous review. We had never stayed at the Governor and wanted a place in downtown Portland that we thought would be upscale. We were not disappointed. The location could not be better as it was within walking distance to some good retail shopping, and immediately out of the hotel was the free streetcar... more

Well, when people ask how my trip to Portland was… I must reply… it was great once we got to the right hotel. Several years ago we took advantage of a big deal package at the Governor’s Hotel, it was very pleasant, a nice room with a fireplace, the steam room and pool. So I planned, a couple of months... more

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights mid-January for a business meeting nearby. Had a great corner room with a fireplace. Upon check in, I noticed that there were crumbs on the sofa but that was easily taken care of with a quick wipe off. The stay was very nice, the front desk staff was great. My main concern was... more
