We spent 5 days at the Benson and generally found it to be a good hotel. Old school elegant grand lobby. Tempurpedic mattresses are standard, and a big plus for travelers with back issues. Daily wine tastings in their wine cellar were fun and usually informative, although that depended on which staff person was conducting the tasting. The location is... more

Great downtown location, blocks away from Powells, Chinatown, and the Pearl District. It's an older hotel (I think from 1912) and some of the rooms are smaller than in newer but similarly priced hotels, but I thought it had a lot of historic charm. The lobby was quite lovely and the bar was small but charming. On Saturday night it... more

The Benson is an old fashioned-style, full-service hotel in downtown Portland. I had a four-day stay in July that was pleasant. The room was on the small side, but I was by myself so it was plenty big. Not much room for working, though there is a small desk. There was a nice big closet. I found the hotel quiet... more

There are some wonderful things about this hotel: the location is perfect, the beds are comfy, the lobby and lounges are beautiful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the concierge is top-notch. The Palm Court restaurant/jazz bar was a nice place to hang out late at night, with great food and cool music. However, for such a highly touted... more

Very small rooms -- and if you need a rollaway or place for your child to sleep, they'll charge you $15 extra! We paid the $15 extra for a bed with two tiny doubles in a teeny-tiny room. The walls were dinged up and dirty, and they charge a LOT for really slow internet access. It is not a four-star... more

We basically just crashed here after a wedding and the rooms were booked by the uncle of the bride at a nice corporate rate. The property is beautiful - gorgeous old lobby with wood, quaint furnishings, beveled glass windows. Desk personnel & bellmen very congenial. Room was fine - small once a modern king bed is put in a room... more

I stayed at the Benson for a week for a conference and wasn't overly impressed with the property. First let me say, the location is very nice. It is in the middle of everything in Portland. You have quick access to almost everything Portland has to offer. Additionally, the architecture of the lobby and other public access areas is very... more

I travel for businness to Hillsboro, Oregon, which is close to Portland, and stay at the Benson every time I do so. I really like the ambience of the Benson, especially the common areas. The dark wood is very rich and harkens to earlier, grander eras. The rooms are kept well and comfortable. I happen to really like the Tempur-pedic... more

I stayed 4 nights at the Benson. I'd never tried a memory-foam bed before, but I slept very well on it. A shame their pillows aren't up to the same high quality as the beds though. The hotel is in a great location & is generally what you'd expect for a four * property. Aside from the pillows, the only... more

I got a great deal on Priceline for this hotel ($75/night). I am very picky about my hotels so I was a little concerned when I rec'd the confirmation that it was a Coast Hotel since I'm not too familiar with that brand. Nonetheless, I saw some good reviews and it is considered a four star on most sites so... more
